Evelyn Myers Greene

Evelyn Myers Greene, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Monday at the Good Samaritan Center in Dowling Park. She was 89.

Mrs. Greene taught at the Old Rochelle School.

She was a Brownie and Girl Scout troop leader and a member of the Gainesville Woman's Club. She served as treasurer for the Geranium Circle of the Gainesville Garden Club. She volunteered with Alachua General Hospital auxiliary, where she was also a board member.

She was a lifelong member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the First Baptist Church, and a 25-year member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Percy E. Greene.

Survivors include a daughter, Gwendolyn Gink Howard of Gainesville; a son, Harry Edward Greene of Clearwater; and four grandchildren.

William Hesters

William "Elwood" Hesters of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at AGH following a lengthy illness. He was 63.

Mr. Hesters was born in Box Springs, Ga., and moved to Gainesville in 1959.

He was self-employed in the land-clearing business.

Survivors include daughters Renae H. Tootle of Gainesville and Joyce E. Hesters of Brooker; and sisters Lula Mae Wilkes of Tennessee and Florence Prowers of Thomasville, Ga.

Robert J. Laxton III

Robert J. Laxton III, a longtime resident of Pennsylvania, died Wednesday in Jacksonville. He was 87.

Mr. Laxton was a maintenance supervisor and self-employed mechanic.

Local survivors include a son, Cyril J. Laxton of Gainesville.

Brett Daryl Munn

Brett Daryl Munn died Monday at his residence in Atlanta. He was 30.

The Gainesville native moved to Atlanta two years ago.

He was an assistant comptroller for Materials International and a Gator booster. He graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1989. He received a master's in accounting degree from the University of Florida and did undergraduate work at Florida State University.

Survivors include his fiancee, Holly Clemons of Atlanta; his mother, Diane Munn of Gainesville; his father, Robert Munn of Hawthorne; and a brother, Chad Munn of Alachua.

E. Henry Schnell

BRONSON -- E. Henry Schnell died Thursday at Shands at AGH following a lengthy illness. He was 85.

Mr. Schnell was born in Scottsbluff, Neb., and moved to Bronson from St. Cloud 13 years ago. He was a retired farmer and a Lutheran.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Schnell of Bronson; a son, Robert E. Schnell of Phoenix; sisters Mary Heins of Fort Morgan, Colo., Eva Merrigan of Scottsbluff, Ruth Todd of Citrus Springs, Alvina Schnell of Dover and Janice Jenkins of British Columbia; brothers Pete and Conrad Schnell, both of Alliance, Neb., John Schnell of Okeechobee, Edward Schnell of Kissimmee and Robert A. Schnell of Boynton Beach; and a grandchild.

Andrew E. Wimberly

HAWTHORNE -- Andrew E. Wimberly died Tuesday at his residence. He was 77.

Mr. Wimberly was a native of Orange Springs.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II under the command of Gen. George S. Patton. He worked in lawn maintenance.

Survivors include a sister, Betty Rodriguez of Ocala.

Elizabeth Ann Daugherty

Elizabeth Ann Daugherty of Gainesville died Monday at North Florida Special Care Center. She was 78.

Mrs. Daugherty was born in Madera, Pa., and moved to Gainesville from Curwensville, Pa., 10 years ago.

She was a seamstress and a Catholic. She enjoyed arts and sports. She was a past member of Penbrook Fireman's Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Daugherty; and a son, Daniel Daugherty.

Survivors include daughters Gail Muza of Harrisburg, Pa., and Trish Keefer and Vicki Brow, both of Gainesville; a son, Richard E. Daugherty Jr. of Schuylkill Haven, Pa.; and three brothers, Don, Francis and Fred Smith.

Homer Lynn Dixon

ALACHUA - Homer Lynn Dixon died Tuesday at his residence following an extended illness. He was 74.

Mr. Dixon was born in Gibson, Ga., and moved to Alachua from DeLand in 1971. He was a retired heavy equipment mechanic and a member of Forest Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Aselee Dixon of Alachua; sons Dennis Dixon of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Jerry Dixon of Gainesville; a brother, Howard Dixon of Land O'Lakes; sisters Mary McNair of Augusta, Ga., and Loretta Bryant of Stapleton, Ga.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

William J. Jefferson Jr.

OLD TOWN - William James Jefferson Jr. died Tuesday at Cross City Rehabilitation Center. He was 71.

Mr. Jefferson was born in Mayo and moved to Old Town from Houston 25 years ago.

He was a carpenter.

Survivors include sisters Betty Rogers of Cross City and Lillie Reed of Melbourne.

Minnie Lou Lewis

Minnie Lou Lewis of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH. She was 89.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Hamilton, Ga., and moved to Gainesville from Harris County, Ga., 45 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Temple AME Church. She attended the public schools in Georgia.

Survivors include daughters Mildred Marbury and Tillie Smith, both of Gainesville; nine grandchildren; and 21 great- grandchildren.

Ruth Jane Lucas

Ruth Jane Lucas of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Oct. 11 in Colorado. She was 74.

The former Gainesville resident was a nurse.

She has no local survivors.

Joseph L. Weaver

Joseph L. Weaver of Gainesville died Oct. 12 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 93.

Mr. Weaver was born Dayton, Ohio, and lived there most of his life before moving to Gainesville five years ago.

He was one of the first teachers of the Dale Carnegie Course at General Motors.

He was a mason, as well as an avid golfer and fisherman.

Mr. Weaver was preceded in death by his first wife, Norma Weaver; and his second wife, Clarice Weaver.

Survivors include a daughter, Patty Serena of Cape Coral; a son, Rick Weaver of Gainesville; a stepbrother, Jerry Barger of Dayton; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchil- dren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
