Paul Cooksey Allen Sr.

WALDO -- Paul Cooksey Allen Sr. of Waldo died Tuesday at Vencor Hospital in Green Cove Springs. He was 71.

Mr. Allen was born in Spartanburg, S.C., and moved to Gainesville from Melbourne in 1964.

He was in the nursing home business for 42 years. He was the founder, president and CEO of BAT Management Foundation Home Inc.

He was one of the founders of the Fightin' Gator Touchdown Club and a longtime member of the Gator Boosters.

He was a member of the National Nursing Home Association and the Florida Health Care Association.

Mr. Allen served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Korean War.

He attended the Cecil Business College in Spartanburg, S.C.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Alan Allen.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie VanWinkle Allen of Waldo; two daughters, Sara Alta Bedford of Waldo and Debbie Marion Kimlinger of Gainesville; two sons, Dennis Eugene Allen of Jacksonville and Paul Cooksey Allen Jr. of Maryville, Tenn.; a brother, Franklin Delano "Puz" Allen of Spartanburg, S.C.; and five grandchildren.

Diane C. Ashcroft

INTERLACHEN -- Diane C. Ashcroft of Interlachen died Saturday at Putnam Community Medical Center. She was 52.

Mrs. Ashcroft was born in Highland Park, Mich., and moved to Interlachen from Las Vegas 2-1/2 years ago.

She was a member of St. John Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Interlachen.

She worked for 16 years as a food and beverage manager for the Weston Hotel in Detroit. She was also in charge of the Local Kitchen at Benae Isreal Synoguge.

Survivors include her husband, Roger O. Ashcroft of Interlachen; a son, Eric Lockhart of Westland, Mich.; her father, Henry Hahn of Interlachen; two brothers, Kevin Hahn of Dearborn Heights and Lance Hahn of Canton, Mich.; a sister, Peggy Green of Plymouth, Mich.; a half-brother, Henry Hahn of Flint, Mich.; and three grandchildren.

Robert S. Blount Jr.

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- Robert S. Blount Jr. died Wednesday at his residence in Keystone Heights following a sudden illness. He was 76.

Mr. Blount was born in Columbia, S.C., and moved to Keystone Heights from Chicago in 1983.

Mr. Blount graduated from Jacksonville Junior College and later enrolled in the University of South Carolina. His college years were cut short by World War II, as he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a B-17 navigator. Returning a decorated veteran, he joined the active reserves as a navigation trainer before his honorable discharge in 1953.

After receiving his bachelor's degree from LaSalle University, he began a 37-year career with Illinois Central Gulf Railroad, retiring as national account manager.

He was a member of AmVets Post No. 86 of Keystone Heights and Faith Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lorraine M. Blount of Keystone Heights; three sons, Robert Blount III of Macon, Ga., Donald Blount of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Steven Blount of Orlando; and two grandsons.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Faith Presbyterian Church building fund.

Albertha Hart Bolen

Albertha Hart Bolen of Gainesville died Dec. 30 at Palm Garden following an extended illness. She was 83.

Mrs. Bolen was born in Aikens, S.C., and moved to Gainesville from Micanopy 53 years ago.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in Choir No. 1, the Home Mission Society, the Mother's Board and the Deaconess Board.

Survivors include six daughters, Cecelia A. Royal of Fayetteville, N.C., and Marlene Wiley, Jeanette E. Bolen, Rita Y. Hamilton, Brenda Baker and Denise Brown, all of Gainesville; three sons, Arthur C. Bolen Sr., Robert S. Colen and Kenneth Bolen, all of Gainesville; three sisters, Inez McNeil and Ruth Singletary, both of St. Augustine, and Mary E. Hart of Gainesville; a brother, Alfred "A.C." Hart of Miami; 28 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Irene Farish

O'BRIEN -- Dorothy Irene Farish of O'Brien died Tuesday at National Health Care Center in Lake City following an extended illness. She was 88.

Mrs. Farish was born in Baltimore and moved to O'Brien from Tombstone, Ariz., in 1995.

She was a homemaker and an Episcopalian.

Survivors include a daughter, Charlotte Judy of Tombstone; a son, William Farish of O'Brien; a brother, Albert Cooper of Baltimore; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great- grandchild.

John Eugene Hodson

TRENTON -- John Eugene Hodson died Wednesday at his residence in Trenton. He was 59.

Mr. Hodson was born in Anderson, Ind., and moved to Trenton 11 years ago.

He served in the U.S. Army and worked for General Motors.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Fanning Springs.

Mr. Hodson was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Hodson of Trenton; two daughters, Teresa Dawson of Trenton and Dawn Tomlinson of Middletown, Ind.; four sons, Toby Spearman, Andy Spearman and Jay K. Spearman, all of Trenton, and Terry Mathency of Dallas; three sisters, Ruby Kraig, Bea Martin and May Seal, all of Anderson, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren.

Ethel M. Jacobs

Ethel M. Jacobs died Dec. 29 at her Gainesville residence following an extended illness. She was 73.

Mrs. Jacobs was born in Americus, Ga., and moved to Gainesville 50 years ago.

She was a retired cook.

Survivors include three daughters, Jacquelyn Flowers and Annette Stubbs, both or Orlando, and Loretta King of Korea; a son, Eddie N. Jacobs of Gainesville; two sisters, Marie Myles of Belle Glade and Joan Broxton of Daytona Beach; a brother, Mack Horne of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Irving L. Johnson

Irving L. Johnson, a longtime resident of Gainesville, died Dec. 31 at North Florida Regional Medical Center following a sudden illness. He was 45.

Mr. Johnson was an auto detailer.

He graduated from Gainesville High School and served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his companion, Ferdessa Cooper of Gainesville; three daughters, Illissa S. Johnson, Calais A. Johnson and Candace B. Johnson, all of Gainesville; his parents, Robert Johnson Sr. and Bereatha Johnson of Gainesville; and three sisters, Marianne J. Robinson of Williston and Letitia Johnson and Katrina Johnson, both of Gainesville.

Lillian McCall

CHIEFLAND -- Lillian McCall of Chiefland died Thursday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 89.

Mrs. McCall was born in Otter Creek and moved to Chiefland in 1966.

She was the owner and operator of McCall's Women's Apparel in Chiefland.

She was a lifelong member and a Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star of Chiefland.

Mrs. McCall was a member of First Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank McCall.

Survivors include two sons, Frank McCall of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Doyle McCall of Chiefland; a sister, Amelia Erwin of Williston; a brother, William E. Ellzey of Fowler Bluff; three grandchildren and two great-grand-child- ren.

Henry Nelson Sr.

Henry Nelson Sr. of New York, N.Y., died Dec. 25 at Columbian Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He was 82.

Mr. Nelson was born in Lake City and moved to New York City in 1948.

He was a retired New York Transit System employee.

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Nelson of New York, N.Y.; two sons; two sisters; two brothers, including the Rev. Caster Nelson Sr. of Micanopy; and several grandchildren.

William Frederick Frost

HAWTHORNE -- William Frederick Frost of Hawthorne died Saturday in Gainesville. He was 67.

Mr. Frost was born in Detroit and moved to Gainesville 24 years ago from West Bloomfield, Mich. He was a Mason and a former pilot and member of the Flying Gators.

Mr. Frost was preceded in death by a half-sister, Ruthann Frost, and a half-brother, Larry Frost.

Survivors include his wife, Isabelle "Gail" Frost of Hawthorne; his stepfather, Richard Meacham of Mississippi; his stepmother, Dorothy Frost of Michigan; three daughters, Vickey Andrew of Farmingham, Mich., Laura Danaher of Redford, Mich., and Linda Widik of Fife Lake, Mich.; a stepdaughter, Caryn Gilliland of Hazel Park, Mich.; three sons, William Frost Jr. of Westland, Mich., Jack Frost of Berkley, Mich., and Richard Frost of Redford; one stepson, Thomas Grimshaw of Texas; two half-brothers, Mark Frost and Donald Frost, both of Michigan; three half-sisters, Janice Lazana and Dianne Dunn, both of Mississippi, and Nancy Spence; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.
