James Ernest Thomas

ORANGE HEIGHTS -- James Ernest Thomas of Orange Heights died Thursday at his home. He was 73.

Mr. Thomas was a retired agricultural engineer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He also served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Thomas was born in Orange Heights and moved from Bradenton back to Orange Heights 16 years ago.

He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in agricultural engineering.

He was a member of Orange Heights Baptist Church.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Hagedorn.cq

Survivors include his wife, Jewell Rountree Thomas of Orange Heights; two daughters, Robin Winsker of Orange Heights and Renee Waggenercq of Pueblo, Colo.; two sons, Jason Thomas of Orange Heights and Jhettcq Thomas of Gainesville; two sisters, Peggy Militocq and Charlotte Coarsey, cq both of Trenton; and three grandchildren.

Elizabeth B. Bolls

Elizabeth B. Bolls died Monday at her residence in Brooksville following an extended illness. She was 84.

Mrs. Bolls was born in Vicksburg, Miss., and lived in Lake Butler for 29 years before moving to Brooksville in 1983.

She attended the University of Alabama, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George Franklin Bolls.

Survivors include three daughters, Irene Weston of Brooksville, Pam Howard of Lake Butler and Pat Shaw of Wichita Falls, Texas; a son, George Franklin Bolls III of Brooksville; a sister, Guion Snyder of Winsboro, La.; two brothers, Ben Bowie of New Orleans and Paul Bowie of Wilmington, N.C.; eight grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

Sarah Ann Cook

HAWTHORNE -- Sarah Ann Cook of Hawthorne died Saturday at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. She was 105.

A native of Charleston, S.C., Mrs. Cook moved to Hawthorne 65 years ago. She worked as a foster grandparent at the Hawthorne Day Care Center. She was a homemaker and a member of the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mable Slater and Alice Mae Sheffield, both of Hawthorne, and Dorothy Mae Glasper of Gainesville; 41 grandchildren; 98 great-grandchildren; 142 great-great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-great- grandchildren.

Raymond Richard Cote

Raymond Richard "Papa" Cote of Gainesville died Monday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Bay Pines. He was 65.

Mr. Cote was born in Chicopee, Mass., and moved to Gainesville from Enfield, Conn., in 1954.

He was the former owner of Doug's Dairy Twirl, which he later changed to "Grampa's" after the birth of his grandson, Daryl Tooley Jr. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Crozier Cote of Gainesville; a daughter, Rose Cote Tooley of Gainesville; five sisters, Jeanne Baisle of Enfield, Conn., Ruth Connley of Broad Brook, Conn., Carol Hines of Somers, Conn., Diane Rosenberg of Windsor, Conn., and Cheryl Karcz of Albion, N.Y.; two brothers, Kenneth Cote and William Cote, both of Enfield, Conn.; and a grandson.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to any charity.

Nora White Faulk

Nora White Faulk of Gainesville died April 19 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 85.

Mrs. Faulk was born in Windsor and moved to Gainesville from Fort Lauderdale in 1990.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Revival Faith Center in Fort Lauderdale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Faulk Sr.

Survivors include a daughter, Ora Jennings of Fort Lauderdale; a son, Fred Faulk Jr. of Fort Lauderdale; a sister, Idella Cason of Gainesville; 14 grandchildren; and a host of great- grandchildren.

Robert Andrew Jackson Sr.

Robert Andrew Jackson Sr. of Blackshear, Ga., died Tuesday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 79.

Mr. Jackson was born in Greenwood, S.C., and moved to Blackshear from Jacksonville in 1974.

He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and a sheet metal smith.

He was a member of the fleet reserve, Non Commissioned Officers Association and the Emanuel Baptist Church in Blackshear.

Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by a son, Robert A. Jackson Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Eula Jackson of Blackshear; a daughter, Candy Henry of Hawthorne; a brother, William C. Jackson of Arden, N.C.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Emanuel Baptist Church.

Walter Johannessen

STEINHATCHEE -- Walter Johannessen of Steinhatchee died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. He was 81.

Mr. Johannessen was born in Norway and moved to Steinhatchee from Bostwick in 1989.

He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a retired Morrison's Cafeteria employee.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Johannessen of Steinhatchee.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the First Baptist Church of Steinhatchee Awanna Program.

Earl Mahamery

HIGH SPRINGS -- Earl Mahamery died Friday at his residence in High Springs following a sudden illness. He was 56.

Mr. Mahamery was a lifelong resident of High Springs.

He was a machine operator for Fabco Air and a member of St. Mary's Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Joann Mahamery of High Springs; seven daughters, Marie Simmons, Pamela Lee, Novad Mahamery and Shevonne Mahamery, all of Alachua, Sheila Perry of Lake Butler, Tanya Freeny of High Springs and Tosha Hamilton of Gainesville; a son, Earl Mahamery Jr. of High Springs; four sisters, Helen Griffin of Alachua, Lorene Dunbar and Joanna Doby, both of High Springs, and Nevada Morris of New Smyrna Beach; four brothers, Arthur Heagles, Dallas Heagles and Gary Heagles, all of High Springs, and Robert Heagles of Miami; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

James McDaniel

STARKE -- James McDaniel of Starke died Tuesday at Shands at Starke following an extended illness. He was 58.

Mr. McDaniel was born in Orlando and moved to Starke 35 years ago. He was a farm worker and a member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Madeline McDaniel of Starke; a daughter, Cindy Gail Sheffield of Starke; two sons, James David McDaniel and Joseph Dwayne McDaniel, both of Starke; his mother, Effie McDaniel of Ocoee; two sisters, Dorothy Freeman and Gail McDaniel, both of Ocoee; three brothers, Franklin McDaniel of Starke, and Ricky McDaniel and Larry McDaniel, both of Ocoee; and four grandchildren.

Holly Billington Rauth

Holly Billington Rauth died of a heart attack Tuesday at Winthrop University Hospital in New York. She was 78.

Mrs. Rauth was born in Kirksey, Ky., and grew up in Gainesville, where she graduated from Gainesville High School before moving to Amityville, N.Y., in 1942.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles S. Rauth Sr.; a son, Robert Lynn Rauth; and a daughter, Kathryn Holly Miller.

Survivors include two sons, Charles S. Rauth Jr. of Matawan, N.J., and Dwight Edward of Port Jefferson, N.Y.; two daughters, Janet Brooks Calamia and Lauren Jean Speller, both of Amityville; five sisters, Priscilla Ergle of Middleburg, Linda B. Warrington of Micanopy, Brooks Frase of Gainesville, Jean Koshler of Seminole and Frankie Padgett of Daytona Beach; a brother, Charles Edward Billington of Las Vegas; and 10 grandchildren.

Jerry L. Roberts

CAMDEN, N.J. -- Jerry L. Roberts of Camden, N.J., died Sunday in Camden following a sudden illness. He was 59.

Mr. Roberts was born in Gainesville and moved to Camden in 1959.

He was a construction engineer and a member of Cathedral of Faith Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board for 12 years. He was a 32nd-degree Mason.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957.

Survivors include his companion, Eloise Frisbey of Gainesville; two daughters, Terri Lynn Roberts and Tasha Roberts, both of Camden; two sons, Kevin Roberts and Tony Roberts, both of Camden; two sisters, Edna R. Jones of Pensacola and Barbara Law Walker of Gainesville; four brothers, David E. Roberts and Joseph N. Roberts, both of Camden, James E. Roberts of Asheville, N.C., and Carl E. Roberts of Gainesville; and three grandchildren.

James C. Shouppe III

SUWANNEE -- James C. "Sparky" Shouppe III died Tuesday at his residence in Suwannee. He was 53.

Mr. Shouppe was born in Bartow and moved to Suwannee from Seffner four years ago.

He was a retired boilermaker for the local union 433 and a Protestant. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Olin S. Wright Lodge 79 and the Egypt Shrine Temple of Tampa. He was also a 32-degree member of the Scottish Rite Mason Valley of Tampa.

Survivors include his companion, Sandra Prescott of Suwannee; a stepson, Stuart Prescott of Suwannee; his mother, Laura Moore Harris of Mulberry; a brother, Wayne Shouppe of Mansfield, Texas; and his maternal grandmother, Pauline Moore of Mulberry.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Suwannee Baptist Church.
