Shirley Beville McCluney

Shirley Beville McCluney of Gainesville died Saturday in Gainesville. She was 61.

Mrs. McCluney was born in Gainesville. She graduated from Sarasota High School and attended Forest Lake Academy in Orlando. She was homemaker and Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Carl E. McCluney of Gainesville; two daughters, Kelly Perkins of Pilot Point, Texas, and Dawn McCluney of Gainesville; one son, Shannon McCluney of High Springs; her mother, Jeanette Cora Dunn Beville of Orange City; one brother, Carl Beville of Orange City; a special uncle, Robert Bowers Dunn of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and one grandson.

Dorwin "Shorty" Lowe Chandler

HAWTHORNE -- Dorwin "Shorty" Lowe Chandler of Hawthorne died Saturday at Shands at Alachua General Hospital. He was 78.

Mr. Chandler was born in Georgetown, Ill., and moved to Hawthorne from Jacksonville in 1983. He was a retired grocery store manager, a member of a Masonic lodge in Georgetown and a member of Citra Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Chandler of Hawthorne and one sister, Dorothy Moreland of Indianola, Ill.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Citra Baptist Church.

Clero Tincy Allen

CHIEFLAND -- Clero Tincy Allen of Chiefland died Saturday in the Tri-County Nursing Home following an extended illness. She was 67.

Mrs. Allen was born in Chiefland and retired to Chiefland from Sarasota in 1977. She was a waitress and attended the Church of Christ.

Survivors include one brother, Arnold Allen of Chiefland.

Marshall Parks Crowell Jr.

GAINESVILLE -- Marshall Parks Crowell Jr. of Gainesville died Monday at North Florida Specialty Care and Rehab Center following a long illness. He was 77.

Mr. Crowell was a retired dental technician and a Navy veteran. He was a member of Living Waters Worship Center.

Mr. Crowell was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. He moved to the Gainesville area from Chapel Hill, N.C., in 1975.

Survivors include his wife, Helen, of 25 years. They also include a son, Marshall P. Crowell III of Meban, N.C., and two daughters, Brenda Groombs and Nancy Simpson, both of Greensboro, N.C.

Survivors also include two granddaughters.

Clara Marie Bradberry Hallmark

BROOKER -- Clara Marie Bradberry Hallmark of Brooker died Sunday in North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville after a brief illness. She was 79.

Mrs. Hallmark was born in Alabama and moved to Florida from Phenix City, Ala., in 1958. She moved to Brooker in 1966 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Hallmark was preceded in death by her husband, James Hallmark, and a daughter, Clara Crews. Survivors include two daughters, Jima Potter of Virginia Beach, Va., and Julia Hayes of Archer; two sons, Hugh Hallmark of Leesburg, Ala., and Sammy Hallmark of Brooker; two brothers, Jim Bradberry of Chicago, Ill., and Moye Bradberry of Alexander City, Ala.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren.

Gladys Trowell Long

LAKE BUTLER -- Gladys Trowell Long of Lake Butler died Sunday at the home of her daughter after a brief illness. She was 87.

Mrs. Long was born in Douglas, Ga., and lived in Lake Butler most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Johnstown Baptist Church near Lake Butler.

Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Trowell, and two daughters, Betty Jo Anderson and Betty Jean Burney.

Survivors include four daughters, Lillie Mae Shrowder and Ruby Lott, both of Palatka, Maggie Keen of Lake City and Sue West of Lake Butler; three sons, Roy Trowell, James Trowell and Glen Trowell, all of Lake Butler; four sisters, Rhoda Stokes of Hazelhurst, Ga., Vermell Johnson and Maude Harper, both of Douglas, Ga., and Janet Simmons of Lake City; 32 grandchildren; 62 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Ralph Philip Maguire

GAINESVILLE -- Ralph Philip Maguire died Saturday at the VA Medical Center in Gainesville. He was 75.

Mr. Maguire was a retired restaurant owner and U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

He was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church in Gainesville and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Maguire was born in Summerville, Mass. He moved to Gainesville 12 years ago from Bayville, N.Y., on Long Island.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Curran Maguire of Gainesville, a son, Damian Camphena of Glen Cove, N.Y., and eight daughters: Mary Zipp of West Brookfield, Maine; Deidre Maguire of Bayville; Tina Covino of Glen Cove; Janice Albergo of Glen Cove; Denise Chioccariello of Las Vegas; Catherine DeGuida of Doylestown, Penn.; Elizabeth Nardone of Holbrook, N.Y.; and Michelle DeMaio of Columbia, Md.

Mr. Maguire also is survived by 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Iva Delia Stewart

TRENTON -- Iva Delia Stewart of Trenton died Sunday in her home. She was 100.

Mrs. Stewart was born in Pilot Point, Texas, and moved to Trenton from Kentucky 11 years ago. She was a homemaker and attended Family Bible Church in Chiefland.

Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by two sons, Troy Stewart and Lyndell Stewart. Survivors include one daughter, Anne McKinney of Trenton; two sons, Leo Stewart of Chiefland and Fred Stewart of Charlton, Mass.; one sister, Bonnie Coy; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Edith R. Hunt

WILLISTON -- Edith R. Hunt of Williston died Friday in Williston. She was 84.

Mrs. Hunt was a retired zoning supervisor for Dade County.

Born in Botswick, she moved from Brunswick, Ga., to Williston 16 years ago.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williston.

Survivors include her husband, John E. Hunt of Williston; five daughters, Nancy Aldridge and Beth Tatum, both of Miami, Diane McNeal of Graham, and Miriam Trowbridge and Cherlyn Switzer, both of West Palm Beach; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Raymond Leon Bess

Raymond Leon Bess of Gainesville died Friday at the Veterans Affairs nursing home. He was 69.

Mr. Bess was a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Born in Kokomo, Ind., he moved from Tennessee to Gainesville 16 years ago. Mr. Bess was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Martha E. Bess of Gainesville; a daughter, Cyndi Cummings of Gainesville; two sons, Michael Bess of North Carolina and Robert Bess of Memphis, Tenn.; a stepson, Bradley Newsom of Memphis; a brother, Jim Shaffer of Kokomo; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Aubrey H. Brewer

Aubrey H. "Opa" Brewer of Gainesville died unexpectedly Tuesday at his home. He was 71.

Mr. Brewer was retired from the city of Gainesville. He also was a retired technical sergeant in the U.S. Air Force. He served in the Korean War.

Born in Gillsville, Ga., he moved from Clarksville, Ga., to Gainesville 31 years ago.

He was a member of the Retired Sergeants Association.

Mr. Brewer was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, Gerda A. Standke "Oma" Brewer of Gainesville; a daughter, Rebecca A. Thompson of Gainesville; two sons, Michael G. Brewer of Archer and Geary A. Brewer of Hawthorne; three sisters, Mozelle Bellamy of Chattanooga, Tenn., Marcus Parks of Athens, Ga., and Julia Broome of Belton, S.C.; a brother, Ralph Brewer of Nicholson, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Herald Reed Hunt

Herald Reed Hunt of Gainesville died Friday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 76.

Mr. Hunt was a retired Realtor. He also served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

Born in Akron, Ohio, he moved from Miami to Gainesville 20 years ago.

He was a member of the Family Church in Gainesville.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Cannon Hunt of Gainesville; three daughters, Joyce Wray Pool of Niceville, Margaret Lee McCallum of Houston, Texas, and Viola Ann Willis of Newberry; two sons, James Reed Hunt of Plantation and John Andrew Hunt of Plant City; a sister, Mildred Hunt of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and seven grandchildren.

Helen E. Byrne

OLD TOWN -- Helen E. Byrne of Old Town died Friday at her home after a long illness. She was 79.

Mrs. Byrne was a pianist.

Born in Bell Harbor, N.Y., she moved from Chiefland to Old Town six months ago.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

She is survived by many friends.
