Thelma Herring
OLD TOWN -- Thelma Herring of Old Town died Thursday at Hospice House in Gainesville. She was 36.
Mrs. Herring was a certified nursing assistant and a home health care worker.
Born in Sebring, she moved to Old Town 30 years ago.
She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Herring enjoyed sewing and needlework.
Survivors include her husband, Tim Herring of Old Town; two sons, Stuart Herring and Emitt Herring, both of Old Town; a brother, Bobby Rhymes of Old Town; two sisters, Joyce Bond and Rhonda Gallion, both of Cross City; and her grandmother, Thelma Yates of Sebring.
Billie Hahn Matthews
HAWTHORNE -- Billie Hahn Matthews of Daytona Beach died Thursday in Daytona Beach. She was 69.
Mrs. Matthews was a retired secretary for the Alachua County school district. She also was a founder of the Alachua County Health Department Dental Clinic.
Born in Concord, N.C., she moved from Gainesville to Hawthorne 31 years ago.
She was a member of the Church of the Holy Communion in Hawthorne and a former member of the Hawthorne Womens Club, the Gainesville Womens Club and the Junior League of Gainesville.
Mrs. Matthews was a founder of the Alachua County Dental Wives Auxiliary and was a secretary of Alachua County University of Florida Alumni Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. James S. Matthews.
Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Matthews Smith of Ormond Beach and Susan Matthews Henderson of Holly Hill; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Bertrice Harris Weisert
Bertrice Harris Weisert of Gainesville died May 26 in Gainesville. She was 93.
Mrs. Weisert was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
Born in Hackneyville, Ala., she lived in Tallahassee for 50 years before moving to Gainesville 13 years ago.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, J.W. Malone and W.N. Weisert.
Survivors include two daughters, Joye Malone Walker and Joanne Sheffield, both of Gainesville; a son, John Everett Malone of Stuart; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to United Methodist Church Children's Home or to Hospice of North Central Florida.
Sybil Fordham Weldon
Sybil Fordham Weldon of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville after a brief illness. She was 92.
Mrs. Weldon was a homemaker.
Born in Abbeyville, Ga., she lived most of her life in Gainesville.
She was a member of North Central Baptist Church and a charter member of the AGH Auxiliary Pink Ladies.
Mrs. Weldon enjoyed caring for newborns at Shands at AGH and caring for her pet cats and dog.
Mrs. Weldon was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William M. Weldon Sr.
Survivors include two daughters, Diane Weldon Montgomery of Gainesville and Cassandra Weldon Faulkner of Fort Lauderdale; a son, William M. Weldon Jr. of Gainesville; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Humane Society of Alachua County or to the building fund at North Central Florida Baptist Church.
Edward Boyette
Edward Boyette of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH after a long illness. He was 49.
Mr. Boyette was a truck driver. He also served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Born in McIntosh, he was a graduate of Gainesville High School.
Mr. Boyette was a Protestant.
Survivors include a son, Steve Lee Boyette of Nichols, Ga.; his mother, Alice Viola Boyette of Gainesville; a brother, Simon R. Boyette of Branford; and two sisters, Virginia Hannah of High Springs and Alice Faye Boyette of Gainesville.
Marshall Lee Haywood
Marshall Lee Haywood of Gainesville died Friday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 58.
Mr. Haywood was born in Huntington, W.Va., and moved to Gainesville from South Point, Ohio, in 1991.
He was a supervisor at Fabco Air.
He served in the U.S. Navy and he was a member of La Crosse Baptist Church.
Mr. Haywood was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Coolville, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Carol Haywood of Gainesville; a daughter, Staci Renee Vance of Gainesville; his father, Garland Kitchen of Ironton, Ohio; a sister, Betty Stalzer of North Carolina; a brother, Charles Kitchen of Ironton; and two grandchildren.
Pattie Dixon-Hinkle
Pattie Dixon-Hinkle of Gainesville died at her home Aug. 24. She was 44.
A native of Tampa, she moved to Gainesville from Syracuse, N.Y., four years ago.
She was a member of Westside Church of God, where she served as evangelist, missionary, choir member and Sunday school teacher.
She was a former counselor with the Center of Excellence.
Mrs. Dixon-Hinkle was a graduate of Santa Fe High School and Santa Fe Community College.
Survivors include her husband, Albert Hinkle of Syracuse; her parents, Levoy and Essie Dixon of Alachua; a sister, Gloria Jean Robinson of Alachua; two brothers, Levoy Dixon Jr. of Syracuse and Vincent Dixon of Alachua.
Lawrence Jenkins
CHIEFLAND - Lawrence Jenkins, a lifelong resident of Chiefland, died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. He was 55.
Mr. Jenkins was a logger and a member of the True Gospel Mission.
He attended Levy County schools.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Jenkins of Chiefland; three daughters, Joyce Jenkins-Patterson, Marlene Jenkins and Tammy Jenkins, all of Gainesville; two sons, Fredrick Jenkins of Gainesville and Edwin Jenkins of Chiefland; two sisters, Bernadine Gent and Bernice Mitchell, both of Chiefland; two brothers, Edward Jackson of Gainesville and James Jackson of Chiefland; and 15 grandchildren.
King Isham Thomas
King Isham Thomas of Orange Park died at his home Friday. He was 75.
A native of Branford, Mr. Thomas was raised in Starke and moved to Orange Park 24 years ago.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Thomas.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary Ann Jarvis of Green Cove Springs, Susan Hudgins of Mandarin and Hazel Lavigne, Floy Cornwall and Elaine Stalter, all of Orange Park; two sons, Timothy King Thomas of Fernandina Beach and Patrick Thomas of Orange Park; two brothers, Armond Thomas of Lake Park, Ga., and Woodrow Thomas of Starke; 12 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren.
Phyllis Florence Vinkemulder
TRENTON - Phyllis Florence Vinkemulder of Trenton died Thursday at Shands at AGH. She was 70.
Mrs. Vinkemulder was born in Grand Rapids, Mich., and moved to Trenton from Pompano Beach eight years ago.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Community Church of the Nazarene of Trenton.
Survivors include five daughters, Penny Lawson of Chiefland, Robin Derrocco of Jasper, Beth Ann Vinkemulder and Nancy Perkins, both of Trenton, and Salley Rickman of Lake Wales; three sons, Daniel Vinkemulder of Montgomery, Ala., Dwight Vinkemulder of Boca Raton and Larry Vinkemulder of Pompano Beach; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Louise Mosca DeConna
Louise Mosca DeConna of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 78.
Mrs. DeConna was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Micanopy in 1990.
She and her husband owned and operated DeConna Ice Cream Co. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband, Don DeConna of Gainesville; a daughter, Donna DeConna of San Diego; three sons, Bill DeConna and Ray DeConna, both of Micanopy, and Vince DeConna of Gainesville; a sister, Dorothy Parente of Miami; a brother, Michael Mosca of Englewood; and four grandchildren.
