Mary L. Selmer

BELL - Mary L. Selmer died Tuesday at her residence in Bell. She was 75.

She was born in Albany, N.Y., and moved to Bell 13 years ago.

Mrs. Selmer was a lab technician at the Health Department.

She attended the Priscilla Baptist Church.

She was a member of the Bell Arts and Crafts Club and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Mrs. Selmer was preceded in death by a son, Anthony Selmer.

Survivors include her husband, John Selmer Sr. of Bell; three daughters, MaryAnn Selmer and Betty Lou Chandler, both of Albany and Stephanie Bass of Bell; three sons, Joseph Selmer of Jacksonville, David Selmer of Gilland, N.Y., and John Selmer Jr. of Virginia Beach; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Diabetes Society.

Agnes Imogene Akins

BELL -- Agnes Imogene Akins died Thursday at her residence in Bell. She was 71.

Mrs. Akins was a lifelong resident of Gilchrist County.

She was a member of the Midway Church of Christ in Bell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lancaster "Lank" Akins.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Roberts of Bell and Wayne Roberts of Chiefland; two sisters, Clara Chesser and Arlene Sauls, both of Orlando; a brother, Carson Sauls of Williston; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ernest Paul Austin

STEINHATCHEE -- Ernest Paul Austin of Steinhatchee died Tuesday in Cross City. He was 95.

Mr. Austin was born in Dallas, Ga., and moved to Steinhatchee in 1976.

He was a retired contractor and a member of Gena Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Austin of Steinhatchee; a daughter, Majorie Smith of Mapleton, Ga.; a sister, Sarah Mobley of Steinhatchee; a brother, Lanier Austin of Dallas, Ga.; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a great- great-grandchild.

Ralph D. Brunson

MCINTOSH -- Ralph D. "Buddy" Brunson died Thursday at his residence in McIntosh. He was 54.

Mr. Brunson was born in Gainesville and moved to McIntosh in 1999.

He was a digital specialist with Bell South. BellSouth. He assisted with Paynes Prairie Conserved and he coached Little League Baseball for the Boys Club for seven years. He was the Jaycee Outstanding Man of the Year in Sisterville, W.Va. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Survivors include his wife, Caroline K. Brunson of McIntosh; a son, Robert Brunson of McIntosh; his mother, Charlotte Burnett Brunson of Vienna, W.Va.; two sisters, Glenda M. Moulden of Eustis and Betty Highfill of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two brothers, Jimmie M. Brunson of Gainesville and Ted R. Brunson of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and a grandchild.

Carl Anthony Lee

ALACHUA -- Carl Anthony "Nature Boy" Lee died Sunday at his sister's residence in Gainesville following a sudden illness. He was 37.

Mr. Lee was born in Gainesville and lived in Alachua for most of his life.

He was a utility employee at Red Lobster and a member of the Holiness Faith Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Lee and Carla Lee, both of Gainesville; a son, Anthony Lee of Gainesville; five sisters, Deborah Moore of Jacksonville, Sandra Williams, Barbara Jackson and Jearleen Watkins, all of Alachua, and Joyce Williams of Gainesville; four brothers, Charles Henry of Gainesville, Larry Curtis, Sylvester Curtis Jr. and Terrance Jackson, all of Alachua; and a grandchild.

Oveda Conerly Doke

LACROSSE -- Oveda Conerly Doke of LaCrosse died Wednesday at Ayers Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Trenton. She was 96.

She was a lifelong resident of Alachua County. She was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church in LaCrosse.

Mrs. Doke was preceded in death by her husband, Lacy Doke.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Louise Colson of LaCrosse and Jo Ann Smith of Wacahoota; a sister, Geneva Trowbridge of Chiefland; a brother, David Conerly of Alachua; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Marguerite Emily Sickler

HAWTHORNE -- Marguerite Emily Sickler of Hawthorne died Thursday at North Florida Special Care Center in Gainesville. She was 91.

Mrs. Sickler was born in Manhattan, N.Y., and moved to Hawthorne from Anthony in 1988.

She was a school teacher.

She attended the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford J. Sickler.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce E. Clapper of Schenevous, N.Y., and Corinne Anne Dickerson of Hawthorne; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Barbara Lee Williams

Barbara Lee Williams of Gainesville died Tuesday at Orange Park Medical Center following a lingering illness. She was 62.

Mrs. Williams was born in West Palm Beach and moved to Gainesville at an early age.

She was a retired pharmacy technician at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957.

She was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Martinez of Jacksonville and Angela Hargett of Gainesville; a sister, Bertha Lee of Orlando; two brothers, Earl Williams of Jacksonville and Willie Williams of San Diego; and three grandchildren.

Thomas Allen Alexander

WILLISTON -- Thomas Allen Alexander of Williston died Sunday at Oakview Rehabilitation and Care Center in Williston. He was 48.

A native of Chicago, Mr. Alexander moved to Williston from St. Petersburg in 1990.

He was a truck driver and a Baptist.

Survivors include his mother, Janice Alexander of Bronson; a sister, Nina Sloan of Williston; and three brothers, Barry Alexander of St. Petersburg, Leonard Alexander of Port St. Lucie and Mark Alexander of West Palm Beach.

Irene E. Breckner

Irene E. Breckner of Gainesville died June 7 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 96.

Mrs. Breckner was born in Vincennes, Ind., and moved to Gainesville from Winter Springs in 1996.

She was a telephone operator and a Catholic.

Survivors include a son, Ralph J. DeLisle of Gainesville; a sister, Mildred C. Carie of Gainesville; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Albert B. Cruz Jr.

LAKE CITY -- Albert B. Cruz Jr. died Monday at his residence in Lake City. He was 71.

Mr. Cruz was born in Key West and moved to Lake City six years ago. He was a retired AT&T; systems technician and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Annelle Cruz of Lake City; four daughters, Cheryl Sellers and Sheri Cuervo, both of Key West, April Rivas of High Springs and Lisa Raymond of Palm Beach Gardens; a brother, Don Cruz of Lake City; and seven grandchildren.

Margaret Winifred Jeffords

Margaret Winifred Jeffords, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Sunday at Shands at AGH following an extended illness. She was 83.

Mrs. Jeffords was a retired accountant with the University of Florida College of Engineering and a member of Antioch Baptist Church in LaCrosse.

Survivors include three daughters, Betti Phillips, June Bowen and Ada Jean Gossett, all of Fayetteville, Ga.; two sons, Mallory J. Jeffords of Gainesville and Edward C. Jeffords of Jacksonville; a brother, Fred R. Edwards of Austin, Texas; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
