Calaene M. Barton

Calaene "Cal" M. Barton of Gainesville died Monday at the Hospice House of Gainesville. She was 44.

Mrs. Barton was born in Speedville and moved to Gainesville from Keystone Heights 10 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. John Baptist Church.

Survivors include her father, Clarence Barton of Keystone Heights; three daughters, Bridgette Barton and Alvia Bryant, both of Gainesville, and Ruth R. Bryant of Johnson; four sisters, Emma J. Baker of Melrose, Sandra Howard of Hawthorne, Margaret Alexander of Gainesville and Linda Freeman of Moultrie, Ga.; and seven grandchildren.

Ezell Filer

ALACHUA -- Ezell "Geneva" Filer, a lifelong resident of Alachua, died Saturday at North Florida Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was 84.

Mrs. Filer was a homemaker and a member of the New Shiloh Baptist Church. She was president of the Sunlight Pallbearers Lodge No. 86.

Survivors include two daughters, Reebell L. Scott of Gainesville and Mamie L. Collins of Alachua; a stepdaughter, Charlie Mae Cato of Lakeland; two sisters, Rosebud Montgomery of Alachua and Mary Butler of Gainesville; a brother, Walter Anderson of Opa-Locka; eight grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great- grandchildren.

Anthony John Muni

Anthony John Muni of Gainesville died at his home Wednesday. He was 75.

Mr. Muni was born in Canton, Ohio, and moved to Gainesville from New York City 17 years ago.

He was a Wall Street accountant. He received a Purple Heart for his service in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine Muni.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorri Goodall of Gainesville and Janice Doss of Orlando; a son, Robert Muni of Gainesville; a sister, Rose Lamonica of North Carolina; and 11 grandchildren.

Steven D. Nelson

ALACHUA -- Steven D. Nelson of Alachua died at his home Tuesday. He was 43.

Mr. Nelson was born in Lake Wales and moved to the Gainesville area 13 years ago.

He was a Protestant and a retired building contractor.

He was a marksman and a National Rifle Association firearms instructor.

Survivors include his wife, Claire Nelson of Alachua; two sons, Brian Nelson of Alachua and Shawn Shotto of Fort Pierce; a daughter, Sarah Nelson of Alachua; and two sisters, Dorothy Nelson of Fort Pierce and Anne Miranda of Port St. Lucie.

Vera Clyde Warren

Vera Clyde Warren died Thursday at her residence in Gainesville following an extended illness.

Mrs. Warren was born in Cairo, Ga., and moved to Gainesville 30 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Grace Skirvin and Sharon Rhodes, both of Gainesville; a sister, Ellen Tucker of Tallahassee; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Nolan M. Hagan

Nolan M. Hagan of Alachua died Friday at Shands at AGH after a short illness. He was 75.

Mr. Hagan was a retired railroad CSX railroad engineer.

Born in Winter Garden, he lived most of his life in the Alachua area.

He belonged to the Brotherhood of Retired Railroad Locomotive Engineers, the Classic Chevy Car Club and the Antique National Automobiles of America. He also drove antique cars in many parades.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Alachua.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Hagan of Alachua; a daughter, Ava Hagan of Alachua; two brothers, Lawson Hagan of Green Cove Springs and DeWitt Hagan of Alachua; and a sister, Canara Jones of Alachua.

Macie Wylie Peterson

Macie Wylie Peterson of Chiefland died Friday at Shands at AGH. She was 93.

Mrs. Peterson was a retired secretary.

Born in Winnsboro, S.C., she moved 38 years ago from Williston to Chiefland.

She belonged to the Williston Women's Club. Mrs. Peterson also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williston and the Bronson United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, Henry E. Peterson Jr. of Chiefland.

Audra Gene Ratliff

Audra Gene Ratliff of Orange Springs died Friday at Shands at AGH after a long illness. He was 77.

Mr. Ratliff was a real estate and rental owner. He served in World War II.

A native of Winwright, Ky., Mr. Ratliff moved from Gainesville to Putnam County 14 years ago.

He belonged to Naomi Old Regular Baptist Church in Hollister, where he served as assistant moderator.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Jean Ratliff of Orange Springs; two sons, Randy Ratliff of Orange Springs and Larry Ratliff of Gainesville; two daughters, Yvonne "Bonnie" Ratliff of Orange Springs and Nancy Scott of Alachua; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lucius Robert Wellington

LAKE BUTLER - Lucius Robert Wellington of Lake Butler died Friday at home after a long illness. He was 78.

Mr. Wellington was a retired auto mechanic.

Born in Walpole, N.H., Mr. Wellington lived most of his life in New York state. He moved seven years ago from Starke to Lake Butler.

Mr. Wellington belonged to the Masons, the Union County American Legion Post No. 153 and the Moose Lodge No. 624 of Lake City.

He was a member of the First Christian Church of Lake Butler.

Survivors include his wife, Doris RiCharde Wellington of Lake Butler; one brother, Harold Wellington of Beaumont, N.C.; one sister, Wilma Costa of Sugar Hill, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Jerome Vernon Ford

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Jerome Vernon "Butch" Ford died Thursday at his residence in Charlotte, N.C., after an extended illness. He was 48.

Mr. Ford was born in Gainesville and moved to Charlotte, N.C., around 25 years ago.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Ford of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters, Nikia Ford of Gainesville and Kelley Ford of California; his mother, Juanita Ford of Gainesville; five sisters, Clara Moore and Peggy Ford, both of Gainesville, Pat Cyler of Athens, Ga., Rosa Willit of Orlando and Flora Owens of San Jose, Calif.; three brothers, Frank Ford and Steven Ford, both of Gainesville and Otis B. Ford of San Jose.

James Hugh Winfrey

MICANOPY -- James Hugh Winfrey of Micanopy died Friday at Oaks Nursing Care Center in Gainesville. He was 80.

Mr. Winfrey was born in Rome, Ga., and moved to Micanopy from Tampa in 1994.

Serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a navigator, he was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa and was in the 306th Overseas Maintenance Squadron. He retired as a master sergeant after 22 years of service.

He was a member of the Oostanaula Masonic Lodge in Rome, Ga., and Christian Church in Rome, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Caswell Winfrey of Micanopy; a daughter, Joan Young of Washington, N.C.; and a stepdaughter, Emily Ohland of Micanopy; and two stepsons, Richard Yerton of Citrus River and Don Herrington of Fort McCoy.

Ruthie R. Goss

CHIEFLAND -- Ruthie R. Goss of Chiefland died Wednesday at National Health Care Nursing Facility in Lake City. She was 84.

Mrs. Goss was born in Lake City and moved to Chiefland from Jacksonville 50 years ago.

She was the owner and operator of a grocery store.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Mrs. Goss was preceded in death by her husband, O.O. Goss.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Lauado Rhoden of Jacksonville and Vera Rhoden of Lake City.
