Kenneth N. Dawson

Kenneth N. Dawson of Gainesville died Sunday from natural causes at his home. He was 57.

Mr. Dawson was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Boca Raton in 1995. He was the former owner of MAGIC 101.3 FM and WWLO 1430 AM radio stations and the current owner of The Palace, formerly The Florida Theater, and local nightclub Wise Guys. He was Jewish.

Survivors include his mother, Hilda Dillman of Boca Raton; a daughter, Samantha Dawson of Cambridge, Mass.; a son, Adam Dawson of Gainesville; and a sister, Sherry Moran of Randolph, N.J.

Margaret Doker

WILLISTON - Margaret Doker died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was 84.

Born in Dowling Park, Mrs. Doker moved to Williston from Tampa in 1972. She was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Doker.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Fender of Williston; three granddaughters; a grandson; five great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

M. Alice Grant

M. Alice Grant of Gainesville died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 76.

Mrs. Grant was a retired staff assistant with the city of Gainesville's Code Enforcement Office.

Born in Cooperstown, N.Y., she moved from Schenectady, N.Y., to Gainesville 42 years ago.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her husband, Louis G. Grant.

Survivors include daughters Katherine Grant Murphy and Elizabeth A. Grant, both of Fort White; a son, Paul Grant of Gainesville; and four grandchildren.

Thomas Clifford Hazen Jr.

STARKE - Thomas Clifford Hazen Jr. of Starke died Monday at Shands at Starke after a brief illness. He was 85.

Mr. Hazen was a lifelong resident of Bradford County. He was a retired postmaster in Starke, where he served from 1964 to 1980. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Madison Street Baptist Church in Starke.

He is survived by his wife, Vera Catherine Wentling Hazen of Starke; daughters Maryann Johns and Jeanette Oglesby, both of Gainesville; a son, Fred L. Graudon of Keystone Heights; sisters Madeline Andrews of Coconut Creek and Grace Ritch of Dahlonega, Ga.; and two grandchildren.

Matthew Lee Hibbitts

Matthew Lee Hibbitts of Gainesville died Friday. He was 19.

Mr. Hibbitts was born in Grundy, Va., where he lived until he moved to Gainesville about 1 1/2 years ago.

He attended Buchholz High School and had planned to attend Santa Fe Community College.

He loved playing the bass guitar, in-line skating and his Siamese cat, Erica.

Survivors include his mother, Debra Lynn Harman of Gainesville; a brother, Christopher Dean Hibbitts of Fort Lauderdale; a grandmother, Norine Kennedy Harman of Grundy, Va.; and a grandfather, Thomas Carl Harman of Bandy, Va.

Gladys Jean Cason Hilliard

TRENTON - Gladys Jean Cason Hilliard died Sunday at her home. She was 81.

Born in Gilchrist County, Mrs. Hilliard was a lifetime resident of the Trenton area. She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Advent Christian Church in Bell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Hilliard.

Mrs. Hilliard is survived by daughters Judy Summers of Bell, Helen Fennell of High Springs and Barbara Jara of Trenton; sons Kermit Hilliard of Trenton and Kenneth Hilliard of Hawthorne; a sister, Vera Strickland of Bell; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Albert Wade Killian

Albert Wade Killian of Gainesville died Monday at his home. He was 81.

Mr. Killian was born in Crowville, La., and lived in Hawthorne and Gainesville for the past 42 years.

He was a real estate developer and businessman who founded the Waldo Farmers and Flea Market.

He served in World War II as a 1st sergeant in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart.

He was a member of the Gainesville Quarterback Club.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Killian of Gainesville; daughters Dixie Killian Campen and Sally Killian Blakewood of Gainesville, JoAnne Killian Edwards of Tulsa, Okla., and Mary Sedani of Hawthorne; a brother, Bob Killian of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Dodie Processi of Eureka, Calif.; and seven grandchildren.

Donald Aaron Smith

Donald Aaron Smith of Gainesville died unexpectedly Thursday at Shands at AGH. He was 80.

Mr. Smith was a retired barber. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved from New York to Gainesville one month ago.

Mr. Smith was a Christian.

Survivors include his caregivers and son and daughter-in-law, Diamond G. Smith and Sherry Smith of Gainesville; and four grandchildren.

Robert D. Abbott

MELROSE -- Robert D. Abbott died Monday at his residence in Melrose. He was 58.

Mr. Abbott was born in Philadelphia and moved to Melrose from West Palm Beach 15 years ago.

He was a truck driver.

He was a member of the Eliam Baptist Church and the Fightin' Gator Touchdown Club in Gainesville.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Abbott of Melrose; two daughters, Deborah Pawela of Tampa and Brenda Milam of Melrose; two sons, Robert Abbott of Bradenton and Joseph Abbott of Melrose; a sister, June Mandelaro of Philadelphia; three brothers, Kenneth Abbott and Thomas Abbott, both of Philadelphia, and George Abbott of West Palm Beach; and nine grandchildren.

Irene Anne Brownlee

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- Irene Anne Brownlee of Keystone Heights died April 25 in Nixa, Mo. She was 60.

A native of Evergreen Park, Ill., she was a homemaker, an artist and a gardener.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Glen Brownlee of Keystone Heights; three daughters, Cheryl Thompson of Gainesville, Dawn Anne Lewis of Salem, Ill., and Jean Hollcroft; a son, Robert G. Brownlee of Mims; her mother, Anne Rose McCarty of Nixa; three sisters, Rosemary Jackovich, Evelyn Smith and Jean Demain; five brothers, William McCarty, Harry McCarty, Tom McCarty, Dan McCarty and Joe McCarty; and nine grandchildren.

Geraldine Wimmer Carver

ARCHER -- Geraldine Wimmer Carver of Archer died Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 80.

Mrs. Carver was born in Princeton, W.Va. She lived most of her life in High Springs and also lived in Gainesville for 35 years.

She was a homemaker.

She was retired from General Electric.

Mrs. Carver was a member of Grace Methodist Church.

She graduated from High Springs High School in 1938.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Bird of Archer and Judy Stokes of Newberry; a sister, Jane Leatherwood of Colorado; a nephew, Sandy Leatherwood of Colorado; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
