Laura Caroline Dinkins

Laura Caroline Dinkins, the newborn child of Tamara Broward and David Alan Dinkins, died Monday at Shands at AGH.

In addition to her parents, Laura is survived by brothers Michael Dinkins and Jonathan Dinkins; maternal grandparents John E. and Gwendolyn Broward of Jacksonville; and paternal grandparents Lloyd and Ann Macey of Starke.

Eugene Dodge

LAKELAND - Eugene Dodge died Monday at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was 79.

Mr. Dodge was born in Shawnee, Okla., and moved to Lakeland from Keystone Heights in 1997.

He owned and operated Dodge Excavating Service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Keystone Golf and Country Club.

Survivors include daughters Fern Carlson of Keystone Heights and Linda Diane Adkins of Canton, Ohio; a son, Steve G. Dodge of Lake Geneva; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Amanda Sara Glanzer

NEWBERRY - Amanda Sara Glanzer, a lifelong resident of Newberry, died Monday in a car accident in Newberry. She was 21.

Miss Glanzer was a student at Santa Fe Community College and planned to continue her studies at the University of Florida.

She spent two summers studying the behavior of frogs in the Central American rain forests and did research on loggerhead turtles on the Outer Islands. Following graduation, she planned to teach anthropology at the Institute for Tropical Ecology and Conservation in Bocas del Toro, Panama.

She worked at the family's businesses, Glanzer Press and Cara Mia Restaurant.

Survivors include her parents, John and Joy Glanzer of Newberry; a sister, Hillary Glanzer of Newberry; brothers Logan Glanzer of Newberry and Joshua Glanzer of New York City; her maternal grandparents, Frank and Pat Walton of Newberry and Pearl and James Condit of Alachua; and her paternal grandmother, Agnes Glanzer of Newberry.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the family's home, 190 NW 266th St., Newberry. Arrangements by Milam Funeral Home.

Florence Evelyn Henderson Hodges

CEDAR KEY - Florence Evelyn Henderson Hodges of Cedar Key died Sunday at Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She was 62.

Mrs. Hodges was born in Brunswick, Ga., and moved to Florida 17 years ago.

She was a graduate of Georgia Baptist School of Nursing in Atlanta and a former member of the Norwich Street Baptist Church.

She enjoyed playing piano and gardening.

Survivors include a daughter, Gina Stefani of Cedar Key; sons Julius Joseph Anderson Jr. and Robert Jefferson Anderson, both of High Springs; a brother, Dr. Robert Jefferson Henderson of Brunswick, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

Clarence E. Lafferty

Clarence E. Lafferty of Gainesville died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 89.

Mr. Lafferty was born in Listie, Pa., and moved to Gainesville from Somerset, Pa.

He was a retired self-employed heavy-equipment operator. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 554 in Somerset. He attended Somerset Brethren Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra Lafferty of Gainesville; stepdaughters Margaret Springer and Merna Cannon, both of Florida, and C. Susan Wright of Arizona; a stepson, Philip Schad of Indiana; sisters Anne Gordon of Gainesville and Lillian Jean Becker of Cleveland; brothers Robert Lafferty of Normalville, Pa., and William E. Lafferty of Bakersville, Pa.

Ira Inez Langley

ARCHER - Ira Inez Langley died Tuesday at her daughter's residence in Alachua. She was 86.

Mrs. Langley was born in Ranburne, Ala., and moved to Archer in 1967.

She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Park Baptist Church.

She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar D. Langley.

Survivors include daughters Virginia Stearns of Daytona Beach, Maxine Bryant of Douglas, Ala., Joyce Williams of Archer, Ann Carroll of Alachua, Nancy Wilds of LaCrosse and Trish Whiddon of Gainesville; sons Dalton Langley of Lyons, Ga., Ray Langley of Collinsville, Ala., and Sam Langley of Lake City; sisters Gladys Hardin of Graham, Ala., Imie Breaseale of Douglas, Ala., and Adell Tillman of Boaz, Ala; 22 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Earl Smith

RAIFORD - Earl Smith died Monday at Cross City Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness. He was 65.

Mr. Smith was born in Raiford and lived in Baker and Union counties most of his life.

He worked in the nursery business in Macclenny and served in the National Guard.

Survivors include a daughter, Earlakay Ingram of Macclenny; sisters Renda Thomas and Gussie Hersey, both of Lake Butler, and Reath Johnson of DeLand Springs; and brothers Morris Smith of Middleburg and Melvin Smith of Macclenny.

Bernice Samanthajane Barber

OLD TOWN - Bernice Samanthajane Barber of Old Town died Thursday following an extended illness. She was 57.

Mrs. Barber moved to Dixie County from Alachua County in 1965.

She was a member of Scrubb Creek Baptist Church of Cross City.

Survivors include her husband, Phillip Barber of Old Town; two daughters, Cynthia Hutchinson of O'Brien and Idella Rains of Old Town; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Shirley Bates

CHIEFLAND - Shirley Bates of Chiefland died Wednesday.

Mrs. Bates was born in Davenport, Iowa, and moved to Chiefland in 1996.

She volunteered with Hospice of North Central Florida.

Survivors include three stepchildren and a sister-in-law.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida.

Cecil O. Bennett

MELROSE - Cecil O. Bennett of Melrose died Friday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City. He was 83.

Mr. Bennett was born in Port Orange and moved to Melrose from Brevard County in 1985. He was a retired building contractor and a member of Windsor Baptist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Bennett.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Celia and James Pope of Melbourne; a stepdaughter, Faye Cole of Keystone Heights; a son, Dr. John Michael Bennett of Cottage Grove, Minn.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the American Diabetes Association.

Ada E. Coe

Ada E. Coe of Gainesville died Thursday in Gainesville. She was 84. Mrs. Coe was born in New Haven, Conn., and moved to Gainesville from Lakeland in 1991. She was a homemaker and a member of the University Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Marcia Coe Fussell and Barbara Coe Johnson, both of Gainesville, and Pamela Coe E. Smith of Lakeland; a sister, Catherine Dingwell of Lakeland; eight grandchildren; and nine great- grandchildren.

Dr. James Russell Green Jr.

Dr. James Russell Green Jr. of Gainesville died in Gainesville on Friday. He was 70.

Dr. Green was born in Gouverneur, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Pittsburgh in 1959. He was a professor of internal medicine and cardiology at Shands Hospital.

He was past president of the American Heart Association of Florida Affiliate. He was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lois R. Green of Gainesville; two daughters, Diane Lois Green and Kathryn Green Perez, both of Palm Beach Gardens; a son, Dr. James Russell Green III of Gainesville; and five grandchildren, Brian Crevasse Green, James Russell Green IV, Justin Perez, Daniel Perez and Megan Green.
