Kate Green

OLD TOWN - Kate Green died Thursday at her residence in Old Town.

She was 98.

Mrs. Green was a lifelong resident of Old Town.

She was a retired mail carrier and a member of the Mail Carrier Association. Mrs. Green also worked as an assistant editor to the Dixie County Advocate.

She was a school bus diver, and she owned a grocery store. She worked until the age of 82.

She was a member of Old Town Methodist Church.

Mrs. Green was preceded in death by husbands William Wesley Cottrel and Lenard E. Green.

Survivors include a daughter, Willie Gene Odlund of Old Town; a granddaughter, Catherine Robinson of Tallahassee; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Robinson of Tallahassee.

James W. Hutchins

HAWTHORNE - James W. "Foots" Hutchins of Hawthorne died in Gainesville on Thursday. He was 70.

Mr. Hutchins was born in Summerville, Ga., and moved to Hawthorne in 1940.

He was a retired dispatcher with Clay Electric, where he worked for 39 years. He loved to fish and tend his fruit trees and vegetable garden.

He was a member of the Church of Christ in Melrose.

Survivors include his wife, Earline Sapp Hutchins of Hawthorne; two daughters, Bea Hutchins Hrbeck of Hawthorne and Patsy Hutchins Langston of Leesburg, Ga.; two sons, Jim Hutchins of Keystone Heights and Christopher D. Hutchins of Hawthorne; four grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and a great-grandchild.

Lillie Mae Jackson

MAYO - Lillie Mae Jackson of Mayo died Thursday in Lake Wales. She was 89.

Mrs. Jackson lived most of her life in Mayo before moving to Winter Haven.

She was a homemaker and a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Mayo.

She was a member of the church missionary union and the Lafayette County Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, J. Albert Jackson.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Laura Jane Walsmith of Lake City, and Kay and Tom Mann of Atlanta; a son and daughter-in-law, Edwin and Jo Nell Jackson of Winter Haven; four granddaughters; and five great- grandchildren.

Joann Yates Koonce

CHIEFLAND - Joann Yates Koonce of Chiefland died Thursday at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

She was 57.

Mrs. Koonce was born in Jacksonville, N.C., and moved to Chiefland from Lineville, Ala., 28 years ago.

She was a saleswoman and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ in Otter Creek.

Survivors include her husband, Linwood Koonce of Chiefland; a daughter, Teresa Lynn Koonce of Interlachen; three sons, Linwood Earl Koonce Jr. of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Derek Keith Koonce of Chiefland and James David Koonce of Holly Ridge, N.C.; three brothers, Charles Yates and David Yates, both of Talladega, Ala., and James Yates of Killeen, Texas; and six grandchildren.

James W. Stripling

LAKE BUTLER - James W. Stripling of Lake Butler died Friday at Lake Butler Hospital.

He was 74.

Mr. Stripling was born in Chula, Ga. He lived in North Florida for most of his life. He moved to Lake Butler from Archer seven years ago.

He was a retired superintendent in construction.

He attended the Harmony Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Green Stripling of Lake Butler; two sons, James M. Stripling and Dewayne R. Stripling, both of Lake Butler; five sisters, Sue Collens, Faye Higgins, Patsy Smart and Bonnie Harper, all of Haines City, Kathy Ramm of Edmond, Okla.; three brothers, Allen Stripling of Waverly, Joe Stripling of Dundee and Norman Stripling of Hinesville, Ga.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

John Petro Tanca

BRONSON - John Petro Tanca of Bronson died Thursday in Williston.

He was 82.

Mr. Tanca was born in Hialeah and moved to Bronson in 1974.

He was a retired engineer with Florida East Coast Railroad.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Tanca was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bronson.

He was a member of the Knights of Pythias.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine W. Tanca of Bronson; two daughters, Mary Lee Tanca of Atlanta and Linda Jenkins of Bell; two sisters, Ernestine Ruch and Betty Mitro, both of Charlotte, N.C.; three brothers, Stanley Tanca of DeBary, Chris Tanca of Dudley, Mass., and Vanghel Tanca of Hollywood, Fla.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Elizabeth Brandt Amos

TRENTON - Elizabeth Brandt Amos died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 89.

Mrs. Amos was born in Spartanburg, S.C., and moved to Trenton from St. Petersburg 15 years ago.

She was a retired stock clerk and a Baptist.

Survivors include sons John "Ed" Amos and James F. Amos, both of Trenton; a sister, Mary Salerno of Rochester, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Daphne Gammel

LAKE CITY - Daphne "Pat" Gammel died Wednesday at the Lake City Medical Center following an extended illness. She was 79.

Mrs. Gammel was born in Mayo and moved to Lake City from Gainesville 17 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a Nazarene.

Survivors include a daughter, Maureen Gail Lund of Tennessee; sons Erwin L. Gammel of Ocoee and Joseph Alan Gammel of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters Violet "Vi" Jennings of Houston, Texas, Coris Cannon of Alachua, Wanda Simmons of High Springs, Ila Hammel of Brooksville; brothers Lloyd Hatch of Mayo and Joseph Hatch Jr. of Gainesville; three stepsisters; six step-brothers; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Dean Bitton Keene

HIGH SPRINGS - Dean Bitton Keene died Monday at his residence. He was 50.

Mr. Keene was born in Wellborn and moved to High Springs in 1965.

He was a clerk and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He graduated from Santa Fe High School.

Survivors include a sister, Annette Keene of High Springs; and brothers Johnny, Melvin and Alonzo Keene, all of High Springs.

Mary J. Mone

Mary J. Mone died Wednesday at Seven Rivers Community Hospital in Crystal River. She was 81.

Mrs. Mone was born in Cleveland and moved to Morriston from Brunswick, Ohio, 12 years ago.

She was a homemaker and a Catholic. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Beverly Hills. She enjoyed collecting dolls.

Survivors include her husband, Walter Mone of Morriston; a son, Dennis Whitney of Morriston; daughters Karen DuRocher of Strongsville, Ohio, and Sandra McDermott of Westend, N.C.; a brother, Frank Giacomazzo of Parma, Ohio; a sister, Jenny Yakim of Brook Park, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
