J.P. Taylor

BELL -- J.P. "Jake" Taylor of Bell died Sunday at Shands at Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City after a long illness. He was 86.

Mr. Taylor, who was born in Fort Pierce, moved to Bell from High Springs in 1977. He was a small-engine repairman and a member of Bell Bethel Church of Christ. He was a member of the High Springs Masonic Lodge No. 137 for 52 years.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Taylor of Bell; three daughters, Joyce Polhill of Lake City, and Mary Pauline Gibbs and Shelley Smith, both of Bell; a brother, Leon Taylor; a sister, Marie Taylor of Gainesville; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Francis Merrill Williams

Frances Merrill Williams of Gainesville died Monday in Gainesville. She was 87.

Mrs. Williams, a homemaker, was born in Colorado City, Texas, and attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M.

She married Col. Frank Williams in August 1934 and accompanied him on his tours as a U.S. Army officer throughout the United States, Japan and Canada. They retired in Las Cruces in 1969 and spent 25 years there before they moved to Gainesville in 1994.

Mrs. Williams was a founding member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Las Cruces. Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Joanna M. Clark of Gainesville, Nancy L. Ragsdale of Alexandria, Va., and Kathy A. Burch of Palo Alto, Calif.; a son, Frank M. Williams of Albuquerque, N.M.; a sister, Jane Olm; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Penny Janeen Anderson

REDDICK -- Penny Janeen Anderson died Saturday in Ocala following a motorcycle accident. She was 37.

Ms. Anderson was born in Grayling, Mich., and moved to Reddick from Newberry nine years ago. She was a senior payroll clerk at the University of Florida, a graduate of Newberry High School and treasurer for the ABATE motorcycle organization.

Survivors include her companion, Tony Havis of Reddick; her parents, Butch and Jean Anderson of Newberry; one daughter, Jessica Murzynski of Jacksonville; one son, David Murzynski of Jacksonville; her maternal grandmother, Marjorie Vallad of Newberry; one brother, Skip Anderson of Suwanee, cq Ga.; and one sister, April Anderson of Lakeland.

Lillian Ebbeffee Briggs-Garner

Lillian Ebbeffee Briggs-Garner of Gainesville died Friday in Shands at the University of Florida following a sudden illness. She was 38.

Mrs. Briggs-Garner was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to Gainesville 25 years ago from New York. She was a nurse's assistant who became skilled in phlebotomy and was a human services worker at Tacachale. She attended The Rock church.

Survivors include her husband, Lonnie Garner of Gainesville; two daughters, Jasmine Q. Garner and Jessica R. Garner, both of Gainesville; two sisters, Rhoda Ndoku Briggs of Gainesville and Grace Briggs of Montreal; seven brothers, Decent Briggs of Nigeria, Charles Briggs of Detroit, Taminomete Briggs of Gainesville, Kennedy Prince Oyokomarie Briggs of Chicago, Perry Okotete Briggs of Washington, D.C., Uche Chuke Briggs of Lagos, Nigeria, and Christopher Briggs Morris of Kansas City, Mo.

Ruby Inez Cooper

STARKE -- Ruby Inez Cooper died Saturday in her home. She was 82.

Mrs. Cooper was born in Dixie County and moved to Starke in 1946. She worked in the Bradford High School cafeteria and was a dietitian at Bradford County Hospital. She attended Madison Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Robert L. "Bob" Cooper of Laceys Spring, Ala., and Donald Cooper of Starke; one daughter, Clairnell Cooper Ellis of Marianna; two foster daughters, Bonnie Griffis Padgett and Jannie Griffis Padgett, both of Starke; one brother, Walter Stewart of Trenton; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Mitchell Reid Millican

CHIEFLAND -- Mitchell Reid "Mitch" Millican died Friday in Williston. He was 50.

Mr. Millican was born in Atlanta and moved to Chiefland in 1994 from Perry. He was a 1969 graduate of Taylor County High School where he was a member of the Library Club, the Future Teachers of America and manager of the football team. He was an acolyte at St. James Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his father, John H. Millican of Perry; and two brothers, Michael Millican of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Marshall Millican of Charlotte, N.C.

Alice Lucile Peddie

Alice Lucile Peddie of Gainesville died Sunday in Shands at the University of Florida. She was 82.

Mrs. Peddie was born in Ty Ty, Ga., and moved to Gainesville in 1993 from Land o' Lakes. She was a homemaker, a life member of Disabled American Veterans Unit 120 in Land o' Lakes and attended Oak Park Baptist Church in Gainesville.

Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Fowler Berryman and Mary Verna Fowler Wooten, both of Gainesville.

William Eddy Barclift

William Eddy Barclift of Gainesville died Friday at the Hospice Care Center in Gainesville. He was 62.

Mr. Barclift was born in Charlotte, N.C., and moved to Gainesville from Memphis in 1970.

He was a claims service representative for Nationwide Insurance and a member of the University City Church of Christ.

He served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Barclift attended East Carolina University.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Barclift of Gainesville; his mother, Gladys Barclift of Panama City; and three brothers, Bob Barclift of Blue Springs, Mo., Bill Barclift of Panama City and Ben Barclift of Shelby, N.C.

Jill Herman Carl

FORT MYERS - Jill Herman Carl died Thursday at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers following a boating accident. She was 47.

Ms. Carl was born in DeFuniak Springs and raised in the Hawthorne/Cross Creek area.

Survivors include a daughter, Richelle Tucker-McHugh of Keystone Heights; her parents, Pat Ryan and Herbert Herman of Hawthorne; a sister, Nancy Bennett of Palatka; and two brothers, Jack Herman of Williston and Steve Herman of Citra.

Flora Bell Howell

CITRA - Flora Bell Howell of Citra died Thursday. She was 88.

Mrs. Bell was born in Cookeville, Tenn., and moved to Citra from Gainesville in 1972.

She was a homemaker and a member of Anthony Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, Floyd Howell of Citra; a sister, Pearlie Holt of Gainesville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchil- dren; and a great-great-grand- child.

Esther Knudsen

WILLISTON - Esther Knudsen of Williston died Thursday at Nature Coast Hospital. She was 96.

Mrs. Knudsen was born in Denmark and immigrated to Canada with her husband, Paul, in her 20s. She moved to Williston from Gainesville in the early 1990s.

She worked as a school cafeteria manager before earning a Realtors license.

Survivors include a son, Ralph Knudsen of Gainesville; and a grandson, Arne Knudsen of Winter Park.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the Salvation Army.

Emmie Louise Marsh

ALACHUA - Emmie Louise Marsh of Alachua died Thursday at North Florida Rehabilitation and Specialty Care Center. She was 92.

Mrs. Marsh was born in Atlanta and lived in West Palm Beach from 1946 until moving to Alachua in 1974.

She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Alachua.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar W. Marsh; a daughter, E. Jeanne Atwater; and a grandson, Glenn Marsh.

Survivors include two sons, John W. Marsh of Alachua and Charles A. Marsh of Miami; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida or First United Methodist Church of Alachua.

Steve Z. Messaros

WILLISTON - Steve Z. Messaros of Williston died Wednesday at Shands at AGH following an extended illness. He was 87.

Mr. Messaros was born in New Brunswick, N.J., and moved to Williston from Youngstown, Ohio, in 1976.

He was retired from Republic Rubber and Tire after 35 years.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the AARP. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels program.

Survivors include three daughters, Delores Goldfarb of Orange Village, Ohio, Mary Lou Watt of Howland, Ohio, and Linda Lieberman of Stroudsburg, Pa.; two sons, Steve J. Messaros of Williston and John Messaros of Waldo, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
