Carol Riley
Carol Riley died Sunday at her residence in Clearwater. She was 68.
A native of Chester County, Pa., Mrs. Riley moved to Clearwater from Gainesville in 1998.
She was a school teacher and an Episcopalian. She held a doctorate in environmental science.
She served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include her husband, John Riley of Clearwater; a daughter, Elizabeth Miksa of Orlando; and three grandchildren.
Mattie Gillyard Williams
Mattie "Aunt Honey" Gillyard Williams of Gainesville died May 13 at Shands at AGH following a lingering illness. She was 86.
Mrs. Williams was born in LaCrosse and moved to Gainesville from Otter Creek in the 1940s. She was a homemaker.
She was a Pentecostal and a member of the Mighty Joy Tones Gospel Group.
Survivors include her caretakers, Mary and Samuel Washington of Gainesville; and a sister, Mable Montgomery of Gainesville.
L.T. Chesson
BRANFORD -- L.T. "Chess" Chesson of Branford died Saturday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City following an extended illness. He was 82.
A native of Oak City, N.C., he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. After his military duty, he moved to Clearwater and worked as a service manager for Lokey Motor Co. for 25 years. He moved to Branford in the 1960s, where he owned and operated several service stations.
He was one of the original investors of The Branford News.
He was a member of Branford United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Chesson of Branford; a son, Philip Chesson of Palm Harbor; two stepsons, Randy Herndon of Perry and Jerry Herndon of Branford; a stepdaughter, Sheryl Brittain of Gainesville; seven grandsons; and a great-grandson.
Leroy George Crockett
Leroy George Crockett of High Springs died Saturday at his residence. He was 75.
A native of Pontiac, Mich., he moved to High Springs from Apopka 11 years ago.
He served in the U.S. Navy and Air Force and was a driller. He was a member of the American Legion in Luzerne, Pa.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Crockett of Merritt Island; two daughters, Aliene Matthews of High Springs and Diane Marie Thompson of McCune, Kan.; a son, Leroy G. Crockett of Exeter, Pa.; a sister, Sarah E. Gambele of Dandridge, Tenn.; four brothers, Kenneth D. Crockett of Texas, Rick White of Greeneville, Tenn., and Clarence W. Crockett and Carl W. Crockett, both of Florida; and three grandchildren.
Grace Elizabeth Davie
HAWTHORNE -- Grace Elizabeth Davie of Hawthorne died Sunday at Sunbridge of Gainesville. She was 83.
Mrs. Davie was born in Toledo, Ohio, and moved to Hawthorne from St. Petersburg in 1996.
She owned and operated a restaurant.
She was a member of the Transfiguration Catholic Church in St. Petersburg and the Kenneth City Women's Club in Kenneth City.
Survivors include a son, Salvatore Davie of Hawthorne; two brothers, James Cuttaia of Cleveland and Joseph Cuttaia of Toledo; a sister, Theresa D'Agostine of Palm Beach Gardens; three grandchildren, Joseph Davie of Hawthorne, and Grace Davie and Ruth McKeever, both of Gainesville; and a great-grandson, Derek McKeever.
John H. Ford
John H. Ford of Gainesville died Sunday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 82.
Mr. Ford was born in LaGrange, Ga., and moved to Gainesville from Clanton, Ala., in 1955.
He was a retired forestry department employee and a Baptist.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his former wife, Betty Ford of Gainesville; two daughters, Sara R. Swilley of Melrose and Deborah S. Munn of Gainesville; a sister, Dillie Mae Day of Vernon; a brother, Miller Ford of Gainesville; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Myra Olivia Gill
NEWBERRY -- Myra Olivia Gill of Newberry died Sunday in Williston. She was 56.
Mrs. Gill was born in Tulsa, Okla., and moved to Newberry from Alex City, Ala., 27 years ago.
She was a retired supervisor with Central Park Lodge and a member of Faith Temple in Alex City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim S. and Nellie Gill; and a brother, Daniel Gill.
Survivors include two sisters, Cynthia Steptoe of Gainesville and Teresa Watson of Williston; three brothers, Jim S. Gill Jr. of Oceanside, Calif., Johnny P. Gill of Allentown, Pa., and Douglas Gill of Lake Helen; nine nieces and nephews; and eight great-nieces and great-nephews.
William Earl Marwood
William Earl Marwood of Gainesville died at his home Saturday. He was 75.
Mr. Marwood was born in Detroit and moved to Florida from Baltimore 22 years ago.
He was a retired U.S. Merchant Marine radio officer.
Mr. Marwood served as a radioman 3rd class in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and he was a communications officer with the U.S. Maritime Service during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the American Theater Medal, the Victory Medal and the Vietnam Service Award.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Margaret Frey of Baltimore; and his brother, Robert Marwood, and sister, Patricia Scott, both of Ontario.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Marwood Wheeler of Gainesville; his grandson, George Ronald Wheeler of Gainesville; and his sister, Orion Greer of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Vincent M. Noce Jr.
WILLISTON -- Vincent M. Noce Jr. of Williston died Friday following a brief illness. He was 45.
Mr. Noce was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Williston six years ago.
He was a truck driver and a Catholic.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Noce of Williston; two daughters, Desiree Noce and Antoinette Noce, both of Williston; a son, Christopher Noce of Riverhead, N.Y.; a stepson, Cory McClendon of South Floral Park, N.Y.; his mother, Rosemary Noce of Davie; two brothers, Matthew Noce of Deerfield Beach and Angelo Noce of Catawba, S.C.; and four sisters, Annette Hall of Cooper City, Kathryn Noce of Plantation, Maria Hysell of Peach Tree City, Ga., and Carmela Conning of Cody, Wyo.
Edward August Schneider
HIGH SPRINGS -- Edward August Schneider of High Springs died Sunday at home. He was 92.
Mr. Schneider was born in Cincinnati and moved to High Springs from Miami in 1989. He was a self-employed landscaper. He was Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Velma M. Schneider of High Springs; two sons, Edward C. Schneider of Milton and Richard Schneider of Bryson City, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Edna M. Silk
Edna M. Silk died Sunday at the North Florida Rehab and Specialty Care Center in Gainesville following a long illness. She was 95.
Born in Shelton, Conn., Ms. Silk moved to Gainesville 43 years ago. She lived part of the time in Connecticut and Arizona.
She was a retired executive secretary at the University of Florida and had worked for the Alachua County School Board.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Samuel Silk.
Survivors include a son, James Silk of Gainesville; a daughter, Nancy McLaren of Wellesley Hills, Mass.; two granddaughters, Sara McLaren and Katherine McLaren of Washington, D.C.; and a sister, Elinor Strauch of Leesburg.
Yaeko Tummond
FOWLER BLUFF -- Yaeko "Peggy" Tummond of Fowler Bluff died Monday at Shands at AGH after a long illness. She was 66.
Mrs. Tummond was born in Japan and moved to Florida more than 30 years ago. She was seamstress and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, C.D. Tummond Jr. of Fowler Bluff; two sisters and two brothers, all of Japan; a stepdaughter, Betty Rowell of Chiefland; a stepson, Dick Tummond, and his wife, Ann, both of Chiefland; three stepgrandsons, Troy Tummond, and his wife, Donni, both of Jacksonville, Scott Tummond and his wife, Nicole, both of Chiefland, and Todd Horne and his wife, Brandy, both of Chiefland; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jenevieve Ford Tyrholm
Jenevieve Ford Tyrholm of Marietta, Ga., died Thursday. She was 82.
Mrs. Tyrholm was born in Minnesota and lived in Pompano Beach and Keystone Heights before moving to Marietta in 1994.
She was a Lutheran.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Tyrholm.
Local survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Ford and Brenda Tyrholm of Gainesville; and two grandchildren.
