George E. Young

ARCHER -- George E. "Jack" Young of Archer died Saturday in Gainesville. He was 83.

Mr. Young was born in Waycross, Ga., and moved to Archer from Gainesville 34 years ago. He was a motor grade operator with S.M. Wall Construction Co. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and going to church. He was a member of Oak Dale Baptist Church.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his son, James Edward Young.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Johnnie Young of Archer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Blanche and James Havelock and Diane and Frank Brabham, all of Archer; daughter-in-law Peggy Young of Gainesville; sister Jeanette Tilton of Thomasville, Ga.; eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and six step-grandchildren.

Robert A. Allfrey Sr.

WILLISTON -- Robert A. Allfrey Sr. of Williston died Monday in Gainesville. He was 51.

Mr. Allfrey was born in Malden, Mass., and moved to Williston from Epsom, N.H., four years ago.

He was a retired law enforcement officer.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Allfrey was a member of Morriston Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald L. Allfrey.

Survivors include his wife, Kristin D. Allfrey of Williston; two daughters, Rebecca Ann Allfrey of Concord, N.H., and Sabrina R. Allfrey of Epping, N.H.; a son, Robert A. Allfrey II of Manchester, N.H.; his mother, Doris T. Allfrey of Pelham, N.H.; a brother, Wayne L. Allfrey of Pelham; and a grandson, Christopher M. Stewart of Epping.

Ronald Alden Bennett

Ronald Alden Bennett of Gainesville died Tuesday in Gainesville following a brief illness. He was 65.

Mr. Bennett was born in Belle Glade and moved to Gainesville from Jacksonville in 1962.

He was the owner and operator of Bennett & Associates Computer Services. He also worked as a school bus driver for the Alachua County School Board.

He was a member of the Alachua General Hospital Auxiliary, the Sons of Italy and the Rock.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Messina Bennett of Gainesville; a daughter, Deborah B. Goldman of Tampa; a son, Ronald Joseph Bennett of Archer; a sister, Ellen Monds of Glen St. Mary; two brothers, Gene Bennett of Bryceville and David Bennett of Glen St. Mary; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grand- son.

Gussie Sims Gardner

WILLISTON -- Gussie Sims Gardner, a lifelong resident of Williston, died Feb. 1 at Shands at AGH following an extended illness. She was 93.

Mrs. Gardner was a homemaker and a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church of Williston. She also was a member of the Sunlight and Lily White Organization.

Survivors include three daughters, Melvina Simmons of Jacksonville, and Betty Monroe and Wilma Sims, both of Williston; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

George Head

George "Jook" Head of Gainesville died Tuesday at Integrated Health Services at Gainesville following a lingering illness. He was 56.

Mr. Head was born in Alachua and moved to Gainesville from Archer in 1940.

He was a roofer with Poole Roofing Co. and a member of Rivers of Life Ministries.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Richardson-Head of Gainesville; two daughters, Tina Head and Trina Head-Green, both of Gainesville; a son, Terrell Head of Atlanta; six sisters, Viran Johnson of Archer, JoAnn Wiley, Christine H. Frazier, Johnnie Mae H. Williams, Mary H. McDougle and Olivia H. Anderson, all of Gainesville; three brothers, Roosevelt Head of Gainesville, Rickey Head of Las Vegas and John Head of Gainesville; and six grandchildren.

Antonio Little

Antonio Little, a lifelong resident of Flemington, died Jan. 30 at Shands at the University of Florida following a brief illness. He was 33.

Mr. Little was a member of Canaan Baptist Church in Flemington.

Local survivors include a son, Antonio Little Jr. of Alachua; his mother and stepfather, Barbara and Alfred Wheeler of Reddick; his father and stepmother, Sidney and Jo Roberts of Clearwater; three sisters, Victoria Griffin and Marcia Little, both of Flemington, and Adara Roberts of Clearwater; and five brothers, Jerry Little and Henry Little, both of Flemington, and Dialla Roberts, Mikkel Roberts and Leron Roberts, all of Clearwater.

Ola Mae McDonald

ORANGE SPRINGS -- Ola Mae McDonald, a longtime resident of Orange Springs, died Feb. 1 at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. She was 97.

Mrs. McDonald was a retired cook and a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Fort McCoy.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah McDonald, who died in 1980.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Charlene McDonald of Hawthorne, and Ernest and Emma McDonald of Sparta, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Mary Lee Rutledge of Plant City; 27 grandchildren; and many great- grandchildren.

Leo Oxendine

LIVE OAK -- Leo Oxendine of Live Oak died Tuesday at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. He was 83.

Mr. Oxendine was born in Jasper and moved to Live Oak from Orlando in 1981.

He was a retired mechanic with Eastern Airlines and a member of the International Association of Machinists in Miami.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Mr. Oxendine was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and a former deacon of Antioch Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary F. Oxendine.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Katheryn Oxendine of Live Oak; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Darea Oxendine of Gainesville; and two grandchildren, Jason Oxendine and Kathi Oxendine.

Eugene E. Saffen

Eugene E. Saffen of Mount Dora died Saturday. He was 76.

Mr. Saffen was a veterinarian, a World War II veteran and a Presbyterian.

Local survivors include a daughter, Phyllis DeLaney of Gainesville.

Wayne Lee Studstill

CHIEFLAND -- Wayne Lee Studstill of Chiefland died Wednesday at Nature Coast Hospital in Williston. He was 67.

Mr. Studstill was born in Chiefland and lived in Gainesville before returning to Chiefland five years ago.

He was a retired battalion chief of the Gainesville Fire Department.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Studstill was a Protestant.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wade Studstill.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Jo Studstill of Chiefland; a son, Russell Studstill of Gainesville; his mother, Isabelle Studstill Johnson of Gainesville; and three brothers, William Studstill of Chiefland, Larry Studstill of Gainesville and Lonnie Studstill of Newberry.

Janet Louise Worthington-Ekholm

Janet Louise Worthington-Ekholm of Gainesville died Saturday in Gainesville. She was 34.

Mrs. Worthington-Ekholm was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Salinas, Calif. She moved to Gainesville from Jacksonville six years ago.

She was a homemaker.

She was employed by Barnett Bank.

Mrs. Worthington-Ekholm held a blue belt in karate and also worked at Ekholm's Black Belt Academy.

Survivors include her husband, Erik E. Ekholm of Gainesville; a son, Logan Ward Ekholm of Gainesville; her parents, Robert and Sue Worthington of Salinas, Calif.; and a brother, Clifford Worthington of Kobe, Japan.

Walter F. Czajka

Walter F. Czajka of Gainesville died Nov. 27 at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 88.

Mr. Czajka was born in Cleveland and moved to Gainesville in 1991.

He was a steel worker and a machinist.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Czajka.

Survivors include a nephew, Ron Carpenter of Gainesville.
