Charles Herbert Gingrich

STARKE -- Charles Herbert Gingrich of Starke died Saturday at Shands at Starke. He was 78.

Mr. Gingrich was born in Santa Maria, Calif., and moved to Starke from Pensacola 25 years ago. He was the owner and operator of Five Winds Lodge in Starke. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Rita Alwine Gingrich of Starke; a stepdaughter, Donna B. Lang of Fairfax, Va.; a stepson, Alan Patterson of Starke; two brothers, James Gingrich and Garth Gingrich, both of California; and a brother-in-law, Donald Alwine of St. Louis.

Edgar D. Matthews

ARCHER -- Edgar D. Matthews of Archer died Saturday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 87.

Mr. Matthews was born in Bristol, Conn., and moved to Archer nine years ago. He was a steam fitter in New Jersey for 57 years. He was a Pentecostal.

Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a son, William Matthews.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Estelle Matthews of Archer; two daughters, Sharon Caverly of Archer and Janice Tardiff of South Carolina; a son, Stephen Matthews of New Jersey; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 13 great- great-grandchildren.

Norman Rivers Jr.

ALACHUA -- Norman Rivers Jr. of Alachua died Friday in Alachua. He was 55.

The Gaffney, S.C., native moved to Alachua from Gainesville 21 years ago.

He was a real estate broker, a member of the Board of Realtors for Alachua County and the Alachua County Code Enforcement Board.

He was a member of the Victory Church.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Hunt Rivers of Alachua; four daughters, Rachel Elizabeth Rivers and Grace Ann Rivers, both of Gainesville, Helen McGee of Alachua and Sarah Overholt of Rochester; two sons, Normal Rivers III of Tampa and John Boyd Rivers of Gainesville; a sister, Dottie Tucker of Ocala; and five grandchildren.

Leo Tremblay

CHIEFLAND -- Leo Tremblay, owner of Tremblay Boats in Chiefland, died Tuesday at his residence in Chiefland. He was 93.

Mr. Tremblay was born in Concord, N.H., and moved to Chiefland 60 years ago. He was a woodworker and a member of First Methodist Church.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include two sons, Louis Tremblay of Palatka and Ron Tremblay of Chiefland; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Nathan Wermiel

Nathan Wermiel of Gainesville died Sunday in Miami. He was 84.

Mr. Wermiel was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Miami 20 years ago. He was a certified public accountant. He enjoyed art, opera, theater and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ruth Glass Wermiel of Gainesville; a daughter, Sara Wermiel of Boston; two sons, Jared Wermiel of Rockville, Md., and Dan Wermiel of Sacramento, Calif.; and five grandchildren, Joel, Beth, Mark, Thomas and Jonathan.

Mary Lou Odom Yarbrough

LAKE CITY -- Mary Lou Odom Yarbrough of Lake City died at her daughter's residence following an extended illness. She was 76.

Mrs. Yarbrough was born in Glenville, Ga., and moved to Lake City from Lake Butler last year. A graduate of the University of Georgia, Mrs. Yarbrough taught school in Lake Butler for 32 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Raiford and the Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Y. Brady of Lake Butler and Shelia Y. Roberts and Sonja Y. Giebeig, both of Lake City; a sister, Betty Odom of Glenville, Ga.; and six grandchildren.

Leila Jean Allen

FANNING SPRINGS -- Leila Jean Allen of Fanning Springs died Sunday in the Cross City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Cross City. She was 86.

Mrs. Allen was a lifelong resident of Fanning Springs, a homemaker and a Protestant.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Austin G. "Sam" Allen in 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Austin G. "Sammie" Allen of Winter Garden and Robert Larry Allen of Fanning Springs; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild.

Henry Thomas Hudson

Henry Thomas "Tommy" Hudson of South Carolina died Friday. He was 54.

Mr. Hudson was born in Cross City and lived in Horseshoe Beach for 21 years. He was a retired railroad worker and was of the Pentecostal faith.

Survivors include four daughters, Rachael Hudson and Doris Hudson, both of Oklahoma, Rita Hudson of South Carolina and Lynette Hudson of Indiana; and one brother, James Hudson of South Carolina.

Alma Jones

CROSS CITY -- Alma Jones of Cross City died Saturday after a long illness. She was 82.

Miss Jones was a member of First Baptist Church of Old Town.

Survivors include three sisters, Thelma Lord of Old Town, Retha Howey of Cross City and Carla Velasco of Bandera, Texas; and a brother, Bennie Jones of Fruitland Park.

Joseph Edgar Land Sr.

MAYO -- Joseph Edgar "Chubby" Land Sr. of Mayo died Friday in Gainesville. He was 60.

Mr. Land was born in Mayo and was a lifelong resident.

He was a member of Midway Baptist Church and had retired from the Florida Department of Transportation, where he worked for 25 years.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph E. and Angie Land of Fort White; two daughters, Dee Jones and her husband, Johnny Jones, of Panama City and Emma Land Peavy of Wewahitchka; one sister, Dorothy Jean Markham of Mulberry; and nine grandchildren.

Dottie M. McGee

GULF HAMMOCK -- Dottie M. McGee of Gulf Hammock died Saturday in Gainesville. She was 69.

Mrs. McGee was born in Nashville, Ga., and moved to Gulf Hammock from Clearwater 15 years ago. She was a retired baker and a Baptist.

Survivors include her husband, Vernon T. McGee of Gulf Hammock; one brother, J.W. Wilkerson of Brooksville; and one sister, Margie Webb of Clearwater.

Marie L. Trudeau Murray

HAWTHORNE -- Marie L. Trudeau Murray of Hawthorne died Saturday. She was 78.

Mrs. Murray was born in Swanton, Vt., and moved to Hawthorne from St. Albans, Vt., in 1968.

She was the retired owner and operator of Murray's Snack Bar and attended St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Hawthorne.

Mrs. Murray was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Robert "Don" Murray.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Murray and his wife, Mary Murray, of Hawthorne and Wayne Murray of Franklin, Mass.; and four grandchildren, Lisa Murray, Adam Murray, Brian Murray and Steven Murray.

William Howard Ollmann

William Howard Ollmann of Gainesville died Saturday in Gainesville. He was 22.

Mr. Ollmann was born in St. Louis and was a lifelong Gainesville resident.

He was a Santa Fe Community College student, a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church and an employee of Publix Super Market at Hunter's Crossing and Newberry Square.

Survivors include his parents, James E. Ollmann and Sue Ollmann of Gainesville; one brother, Chris Ollmann of Tampa; one sister, Patty Ollmann of Atlanta; and grandfather Howard P. Langridge of Elizabethon, Tenn.

Bernice Register Tomlinson

HASTINGS -- Bernice Register Tomlinson of Hastings died Saturday in Flagler Hospital in St. Augustine after a lingering illness. She was 90.

Mrs. Tomlinson was born in Atkinson County, Ga., and moved to Hastings in 1936.

She was a cook for the Hastings Drive-In and the Rotary Club, and she was a member of Hastings First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Tomlinson was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Tomlinson Sr., and a daughter, Ailene Tomlinson.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Margaret Tomlinson of Gainesville; one daughter, Joy L. Aubrey of St. Augustine; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild.

Ethel E. Voss

Ethel E. Voss of Gainesville died Sunday in her home following a long illness. She was 82.

Mrs. Voss was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from South Ozone Park, N.Y., in 1958.

She retired from Sears in 1981 and from the state Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services in 1991.

Mrs. Voss was a member of the American Business Woman's Association and was named woman of the year. She also belonged to the National Secretaries Association.

Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Lindsey of Lakeland, Laura Voss of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Elizabeth Leopold of Gainesville; four grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.
