Donald E. Bennett

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- Donald E. Bennett of Keystone Heights died Friday at Shands at Starke. He was 93.

Mr. Bennett was born in Dowling Park and moved to Keystone Heights in 1975 from North Carolina. He was Presbyterian and active in the Keystone Senior Service.

He was a supervisor for Merchants Terminal Co.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Robinson and Betty D. McClure, both of Keystone Heights; a son, Neal M. Bennett of Falls Church, Va.; a brother, Russell H. Bennett of Hernando; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Eadward Murrill Brown

LAKE CITY -- Eadward Murrill Brown of Lake City died Monday after complications from myasthenia gravis and post-polio syndrome. He was 78.

Mr. Brown was born in Gainesville and moved to Lake City from Live Oak 11 years ago. He was a certified public accountant and cattleman.

He was a member of Kappa Alpha Order and the Florida Institute of Certified Accountants. He was a U.S. Army veteran and enjoyed saltwater fishing and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Anita W. Brown of Lake City; a daughter, Catherine Brown Boyett of Gainesville; a son, Thomas Eadward Brown of Tallahassee; and four grandchildren.

Ralph Lamar Cheely

TRENTON -- Ralph Lamar "Jack" Cheely of Trenton died Sunday. He was 87.

Mr. Cheely was born in Sparta, Ga., and moved to Trenton from Chiefland four years ago. He was an insurance agent.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 52 years and Chiefland United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ethel Harris Cheely.

Survivors include two daughters, Sibyl Downing of Trenton and Jackie Pickett of Clinton, Ark.; a brother, Frank Cheely of Bellville, Texas; five granddaughters, Cynthia Downing, Sandra West and Tracey Downing, all of Gainesville, Anne Jones of Old Town and Heidi Pickett of Little Rock, Ark.; and one great-grandson, Matthew Jones of Old Town.

Winifred Mayzelle Hilton Christian

STARKE -- Winifred Mayzelle Hilton Christian of Starke died Monday in Jacksonville after a long illness. She was 73.

She was born in Bell and moved to Starke from Ocala 15 years ago. She was a member of Sampson City Church of God. She was a nursing assistant in Starke, Ocala and Macclenny.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Crews of Green Cove Springs; two sons, Ronald E. Christian of St. Albans, Vt., and Rodney A. Christian of Keystone Heights; two sisters, Helen A. Hoffler of Starke and Carol M. Swails of Branford; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Lucile Edenfield Combs

Lucile Edenfield Combs of Gainesville died Sunday. She was 87.

She was born in Douglas, Ga., and moved to Gainesville in 1953. She was an educator and a media specialist.

She and her husband were the first married couple to receive simultaneous master's degrees from the University of Florida's College of Education. She taught in Gainesville from 1953 to 1978 and was an educator in Florida for 44 years.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Delta Pi, the National Education Association, the Florida Retired Educators Association, the Order of the Eastern Star and University United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.C. "PeeWee" Combs.

Survivors include a daughter, Honey Combs Younger of Gainesville; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Jane Peabody

TRENTON -- Margaret Jane Peabody of Trenton died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 81.

She was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., and moved to Trenton from Lakeland 24 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Center Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence R. Peabody of Trenton; two daughters, Janelle Rudd of Snellville, Ga., and Carol Ann Hyde of Trenton; a son, Byron Ralph Peabody of Mobile, Ala.; a brother, Paul Saucerman of Colorado Springs; a sister, Verlene Kraxberger of Fort Collins, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Charles Marvin Sandlin

FORT WHITE -- Charles Marvin "Chuck" Sandlin of Fort White died Saturday at Shands at the University of Florida. He was 51.

Mr. Sandlin was born in Norfolk, Va., and moved to Fort White from Branford in 1998. He was a manager for Winn-Dixie.

Survivors include a daughter, Jasmine W. Sandlin of Gainesville; a son, Cory F. Sandlin of High Springs; two sisters, Vickie Frame of Callahan and Barbara Fischer of Allabaster, Ala.; and a brother, Danny Sandlin of Fort White.

Myrtle Aileen Throop

TRENTON -- Myrtle Aileen Throop of Trenton died Friday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 82.

She was born in Tampa and moved to Trenton from West Palm Beach seven months ago. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Dawn Simpson of Trenton and Sandra Albritton of West Palm Beach; three sons, Ronald Throop and Richard Throop, both of West Palm Beach, and Terry Throop of Lake Port; 21 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Marie Mould Yellen

Marie Mould Yellen of Gainesville died Saturday at her home. She was 81.

She was born in Greenwich, Conn., and moved to Gainesville from Columbus, Ga., in 1984. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing and needlepoint.

Survivors, all of Gainesville, include her husband, Victor C. Yellen; a son, Victor M. Yellen; a daughter-in-law, Arlene Huszar; a granddaughter, Mariette Yellen; two nieces and a nephew.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Queen of Peace Memorial Campaign.

Warren Scott Bateman

Warren Scott Bateman of Crystal River died Tuesday. He was 82.

The Jacksonville native was a retired state trooper and a Protestant.

Local survivors include a son, Kenneth S. Bateman of Gainesville.

Nathaniel Dukes

ALACHUA - Nathaniel Dukes died Saturday at Shands at AGH following a lingering illness. He was 65.

Mr. Dukes was born in Micanopy and moved to Alachua in the late 1960s.

He was a self-employed barber and a retired custodial supervisor at the University of Florida. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1955. He was a member of Westside Church of God in Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Barbara Dukes of Alachua; a daughter, Sheila Goff of Gainesville; sons Lawrence F. Keith of Gainesville, Reginald Keith of Hollywood and Kenneth Keith of Tallahassee; sisters Sarah Kelsey of the Bronx, N.Y., and Emily Wallace of Williston; brothers Mitchell Dukes Jr. of Williston, Henry and James Dukes, both of Gainesville, and Willie Dukes of Los Angeles; and six grandchildren.

Florence Duren

ARCHER - Florence "Skeete" Duren, a lifelong resident of Archer, died Oct. 17 at her residence. She was 86.

Mrs. Duren was a member of the Archer Historical Society, the Order of the Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church.

She has no immediate survivors.

Stephen M. Flanagan

NEWBERRY - Stephen Matthew Flanagan died Monday at his residence. He was 53.

Mr. Flanagan was born in Dublin, Ireland, and moved to Newberry from Gainesville 16 years ago. He was a businessman. He ran Fish & Critters Pet Shop, the Alpine Ranch & Boarding Kennel and Alpine Cleaners. He was also involved in real estate.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Shelley Flanagan of Newberry; daughters Heather Knudson and Sarah Flanagan, both of Newberry; and a brother and three sisters, all of Ireland.

Charles Edwin Gammon

Charles Edwin Gammon of Gainesville died Monday at Munroe Regional Medical Center.

He was 91.

Mr. Gammon was born in Bayonne, N.J., and moved to Gainesville from Pompton Plains, N.J., in 1970.

He was a traffic and order controller with the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Clara Gammon of Gainesville; a son, Charles Gammon of Acworth, Ga.; a sister, Evelyn Best of Englewood, N.J.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
