Leamon L. Koon

O'BRIEN -- Leamon L. Koon died Sunday at Lake City Medical Center following an extended illness. He was 72.

Mr. Koon was born in Hildreth and moved to O'Brien from Indiana 10 years ago.

He was a railroad switchman for Indiana Harbor Belt Co., a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Betty Jean Koon of O'Brien; daughters Pamela Ann Cullers of Merrillville, Ind., and Thennie Jean Baldwin of Valparaiso, Ind.; sisters Ottis Akins of Bell, Minnie Mellette of Branford, Berdie Sue Reiser of O'Brien and Norma Jean Edwards of Lake City; a brother, Sherman Jackson Koon of Ocala; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Clyde Prevatt

LAWTEY -- Clyde Prevatt, a lifelong resident of Bradford County, died Sunday at Shands at Starke following an extended illness. He was 81.

Mr. Prevatt was a retired sawmill and pulpwood worker. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Church of God by Faith.

He is survived by his sister, Louise Kemp of Lawtey.

Betty Jane Rakestraw

Betty Jane Rakestraw of Gainesville died Monday at Shands at AGH. She was 76.

Mrs. Rakestraw was born in Jacksonville and moved to Gainesville from Picayune, Miss., 30 years ago.

She was a trainer at Sunland Training Center, now Tacachale.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Rakestraw.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Ramsey of High Springs; a son, Tony Harrison of Jacksonville; her aunt and caretaker, Mary Cone of Gainesville; two granddaughters; and two great-grandchildren.

Kazuko Reed

STARKE -- Kazuko "Kaz" "Mamasan" Reed died Sunday at Kindred Hospital in Green Cove Springs. She was 71.

Mrs. Reed was born in Tokyo, Japan, and moved to Starke in 1957.

She was a kitchen manager at Camp Blanding and a member of the Fleet Reserve Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Melvin Reed of Starke; sons William James Reed of Waldo and Ronald Reed of Redding, Calif.; daughters Katherine Ann Brown of Lawtey and Norma Jean Daniels of Macon, Ga.; a brother, Jir Ono of Tokyo; nine grandchildren; and a great- grandchild.

Oma Stuart

Oma Stuart of Bartlett, Tenn., died Saturday at Methodist North Hospital. She was 83.

Mrs. Bartlett was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Local survivors include a daughter, Sylvia Stuart of Gainesville.

Elridge Earl Toney

Elridge Earl Toney of Jacksonville died Sunday in Orange Park. He was 74.

The Newberry native worked in the maintenance department at the University of Florida before beginning a 22-year career in the U.S. Navy.

He has no immediate survivors living locally.

Forrest Vincent

Forrest Vincent of Gainesville died Saturday at Shands at AGH. He was 85.

The Michigan native moved to Gainesville from Manatee County five years ago.

He was a retired rancher and a member of the Cattleman's Association of Manatee County. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Aletha Vincent of Gainesville; daughters Marilyn McCain and Marlene Beghtel, both of Gainesville; a foster daughter, Zoila Espinosa of Mountain City, Ga.; sisters Opal St. John of Ruskin, Barbara Ritter of Prudenville, Mich., and Arlene Simpson of Houghton Lake, Mich.; a brother, Hubert Vincent of St. Johns, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great- grandchildren.

Lois Patricia Winslow

CHIEFLAND -- Lois Patricia Winslow died Monday at Nature Coast Hospital in Williston. She was 75.

Mrs. Winslow was born in Prescott, Ariz., and moved to Chiefland from Horseheads, N.Y., in 1988.

She was a retired Westinghouse employee and a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Horseheads.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Glenn Winslow of Chiefland; a daughter, Patricia K. Dzikowski of Horseheads; sons Glen Winslow III and David M. Winslow, both of Horseheads; a brother, George Ford of Athens, Pa., four grandchildren; and a great-grand- child.

Miriam Berry

TRENTON - Miriam Elizabeth Habel Berry died Thursday at Tri-County Nursing Home. She was 83.

Mrs. Berry was born in Morristown, N.J., and moved to Trenton from Newberry last year.

She was an accountant and a member of Archer Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include daughters Lynn Glidden of Newberry and Donna Berry DeYoung of Mobile, Ala.; five grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.

Pauline M. Fellows

STARKE - Pauline M. Fellows died Friday at her residence. She was 74.

Mrs. Fellows was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., and moved to Starke from Gainesville two years ago. She was a retired secretary for Dr. Edward M. Copeland, chief of surgery in the College of Medicine at the University of Florida.

She was a past member of Living Faith Fellowship and the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. She attended the First Baptist Church of Starke.

Survivors include daughters Katherine Smith and Grace White, both of Gainesville; a son, Charles R. Fellows of Starke; sisters Jean M. Anderson of Ocala and Lynn Boon of Orlando; her former husband, Richard C. Fellows of Orange Park; and eight grandchildren.

Emily Hyder Goolsby

Emily Hyder "Patsy" Goolsby died Thursday at her residence in Gainesville following an extended illness. She was 78.

Mrs. Goolsby was born in Dana, N.C., and moved to Gainesville from Hendersonville, N.C., 53 years ago.

She was a retired food service employee at Metcalfe Elementary School. She was a member of Carol Estates Baptist Church and a former member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters Vivian Hrbek of Waldo and Naomi Martinez of Gainesville; sons Larry Goolsby of Chiefland, and Billy and Herbert Goolsby, both of Gainesville; a sister, Maggie Seay of Travelers Rest, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Troy Al Hankerson

STARKE - Troy Al Hankerson, a lifelong resident of Starke, died Tuesday at Shands at Starke of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 23.

Mr. Hankerson was a welder at S.M.I. Joint Steel Mill and a member of the Church of God by Faith in Starke.

Survivors include sons Tyric and Troy Hankerson Jr. of Starke; his parents, Robert and Mary Hankerson of Starke; brothers Robert Hankerson Jr. of South Carolina and Lance, Willis and Demetrice Hankerson, all of Starke; sisters Valarie Jones and Teresa Hankerson, both of Starke; and his grandmothers Elizabeth Dean and Ethel Hankerson, both of Starke.

Nina Lee Croft Johns

LAKE BUTLER - Nina Lee Croft Johns died Friday at her home following an extended illness. She was 80.

Mrs. Johns was born in Union County and lived most of her life in Lake Butler. She and her husband owned and operated the Johns 76 service station in Lake Butler for many years.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Lake Butler.

Survivors include daughters Teresa L. Johns of Ormond Beach, Mary Lee O'Steen of Lake Butler and Sue Stalnaker of Lake Butler; a son, Sam Johns of Lake Butler; brothers Wilford and Travis Croft, both of Providence, and Randolph Croft of Lake Butler; a sister, Mildred Crawford of Lake Butler; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
