Lubedia Waters Beach

Lubedia Waters Beach of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville after a sudden illness. She was 78.

Mrs. Beach was a former bookkeeper. She also worked at Camp Blanding during World War II.

Born in Brooker, she was a lifelong resident of the area.

Mrs. Beach was a 1941 graduate of Alachua High School.

She was a member of Westside Baptist Church and of the American Legion Post 16.

Mrs. Beach was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis F. Beach; and a son, Curtis Dwight Beach.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Ellen Brown of Gainesville; a brother, Roswell Waters of Augusta; and a granddaughter, Shawna Ashley Beach of Gainesville.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to Hospice of North Central Florida.

Mary Jean Boyer Champagne

HAWTHORNE -- Mary Jean Boyer Champagne, a homemaker and member of Hawthorne Womens Club, died in Gainesville on Friday. She was 73.

Mrs. Champagne was a member of First Baptist Church of Hawthorne and a Rock and Readers volunteer at Shell Elementary School.

She was born in Jacksonville and moved to Hawthorne 12 years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Gabe Champagne; two daughters, Vicki Jean Cox of Charlotte, Tenn., and Betty Jean Pica of Jacksonville; two sons, Michael Champagne of Orange Park, and Gregory Champagne of Brooksville; a brother, Ernest Doyle Boyer of Hawthorne; a sister, Betty B. Brown of Jacksonville; and six grandchildren.

Frank Anthony LoMonte

Frank Anthony LoMonte of Gainesville died Friday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 77.

Mr. LoMonte was a retired guidance counselor. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the Air Force during the Korean War.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved from Long Island, N.Y., to Gainesville 22 years ago.

Mr. LoMonte attended Holy Faith Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemarie LoMonte of Gainesville; a son, Frank Daniel LoMonte of Atlanta; a daughter, Susan Rose LoMonte of Gainesville; three brothers, Peter LoMonte of Gainesville, Joseph LoMonte of Manhasset Hills, N.Y., and Anthony LoMonte of Wading River, N.Y.; and three sisters, Ann Schafercq of New Hyde Park, N.Y., Stella Warshauer of Williston Park, N.Y., and Frances Botti of Lincroft, N.J.

Luella Geraldine Marlow

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- Luella Geraldine Marlow of Keystone Heights died Friday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was 82.

Mrs. Marlow was a homemaker.

Born in Burley, Idaho, she lived in Gainesville for two years before moving to Keystone Heights three years ago.

She enjoyed growing flowers and collecting bird statues.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Norman G. Marlow of Keystone Heights; a daughter, Norma Jean "Nena" Lee of Keystone Heights; four sons, Norman G. Marlow Jr. of Ocala, Gregory Marlow of Gainesville, Jeffery Marlow of Portland, Ore., and Johnny Marlow of Cape Coral; a brother, Leonard Beutler of Anaheim, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Justin Michael St. John

Justin Michael St. John of Gainesville died Friday night in a car crash near Alachua. He was 17.

Justin was a senior at Gainesville High School.

Born in Toledo, Ohio, he moved from Toledo to Gainesville 15 years ago.

Justin was an executive officer in the Naval Junior R.O.T.C. program and was the top shooter on the Rifle Team. He was also a member of the Armed Drill Team.

He was a member of Holy Faith Catholic Church.

Survivors include his parents, David A. St. John and Donna J. St. John, both of Gainesville; a brother, Gregory St. John of Gainesville; his maternal grandmother, Mary Hall of Toledo; and his paternal grandparents, Donald and Barbara St. John of Oregon, Ohio.

Cynthia Maude Roberts

CROSS CITY -- Cynthia Maude "Aunt Maude" Roberts of Cross City died Saturday at Country Oaks Nursing Home in Chiefland. She was 96.

Mrs. Roberts was a practical nurse and midwife. Several of the area's prominent citizens were born at Aunt Maude's home.

She was born in the log home built by her grandfather before the Civil War in the Butler Community near Horseshoe Beach and was a lifelong resident of the area.

Mrs. Roberts was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Horseshoe Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Marshall Clements and Mitchell Clary, both of Cross City; one daughter; Jimmie Jean Adkins of Horseshoe Beach; two stepdaughters, Bobbie Jean Biles of Gainesville and Linda Gail Hunter of St. Petersburg; a brother, Blaine Butler of Horseshoe Beach; three sisters, Mary Mae Slocum and Edwina Green, both of Gainesville, and Dora Valentine of Horseshoe Beach; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Charlie T. Dowling Jr.

Charlie T. Dowling Jr. of Gainesville died Friday in Gainesville after a short illness. He was 57.

Mr. Dowling owned and operated Dowling Signs.

He was a lifelong resident of Gainesville and a member of the Elks Lodge No. 990.

Mr. Dowling was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Dowling of Gainesville; a daughter, Dawn Dowling Rudolph of Tallahassee; two sons, Charlie T. Dowling III and Rick Waddell, both of Gainesville; his mother, Laverne Kite Dowling of Gainesville; a sister, Dianne Junior of Gainesville; and three grandchildren.

Meena Choudary

AHMADABAD, India -- Meena Choudary of Ahmbdabad, India, died Sunday in her home after an illness. She was 23.

Ms. Choudary was a life-long resident of Ahmadabad, India. She was a student studying microbiology at the University of Ahmadabad.

She was Hindu.

Survivors include two stepsisters, Nimisha Patel and Seema Patel of Gainesville; a stepbrother, Raj Patel of Melbourne; and a stepfather, Prem Patel of Melbourne.

Raymond Sleeth Drummond

HAWTHORNE -- Raymond Sleeth Drummond of Hawthorne died Thursday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 75.

Mr. Drummond was born in Erie, Pa., and moved to Hawthorne from Okeechobee 16 years ago.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a former Boy Scouts troop leader and a member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Interlachen.

Survivors include his wife, Helen H. Drummond of Hawthorne; two sons, Raymond Richard Drummond of Cummings, Ga., and James Richard Drummond of Winston Salem, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

Ray A. Durden

Ray A. Durden died of a heart attack Monday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 61.

Mr. Durden, a lifetime resident of Bell, was a member of New Hope Advent Christian Church.

Mr. Durden served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and from 1963 to 1966. He earned his journeyman's electrician certification and became an electrician for the Institute of Food and Agriculture Science at the University of Florida, where he worked from 1985 until retiring Thursday.

Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Durden of Alachua; two sons, Mickey Durden of Alachua and John Durden of Longview, Texas; a daughter, Charlotte Tison of Gainesville; his mother, Vida Mae Durden of Bell; two brothers, Paul Durden of Gainesville, and Jerrel Durden of Alachua; two sisters, Mary Frances Harlow of Jacksonville and Mildred Harris of Gainesville; one grandchild and one great-nephew.

Anne Louise Keegan

Anne Louise Keegan died of a heart attack Saturday in Ormond Memorial Hospital in Ormond Beach. She was 76.

Mrs. Keegan, a nurse, was born in Bayonne, N.J., and moved to Ormond Beach from Miami 15 years ago.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathy Padova of Stuart, and Karen Hardcastle of Starke; two brothers, Al Ghizzone and Ralph Ghizzone, both of Bayonne; a sister, Kate Ghizzone of Bayonne; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Ervin S. Priem

Professor Ervin S. Priem of Gainesville died Monday in his home. He was 89.

Dr. Priem was born in Shawano, Wis., and moved from Chicago to Gainesville 48 years ago.

He was a retired electrical engineering professor at the University of Florida, one of the first radar engineers in 1942 with Hazeltine Electronics and a member of the First Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include his wife, Dottie Ruth Priem of Gainesville; two daughters, Pamela Wright of Denver, Colo., and Joy Ammerman of Orlando; and two grandchildren.

George Dallas Seidwitz

George Dallas Seidwitz died Saturday in his Chiefland home after an extended illness. He was 76.

Mr. Seidwitz was born in Kenmore, Ohio, and moved from Ohio to Chiefland 32 years ago.

Mr. Seidwitz, a Catholic, served in the U.S. Army before becoming a carpenter. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Mae Seidwitz of Chiefland; a son, David Joseph Seidwitz of Akron, Ohio; a daughter, Carolyn Dale of Eureka, Mont.; a brother, Jack Seidwitz of Gulf Shores, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
