Marjorie Park Hairston

Marjorie Park Hairston of Gainesville died Wednesday at Shands at the University of Florida. She was 67.

Mrs. Hairston was born in Greenville, Miss., and moved to Gainesville from Jacksonville 28 years ago.

She was a retired elementary school teacher. Mrs. Hairston taught fourth grade at Terwilliger Elementary and Wiles Elementary for 27 years. She was the unofficial school leader in the care of many lost and injured small animals.

She received a bachelor's degree from Jacksonville University and a master's degree from Nova University.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Hairston of Gainesville; two daughters, Beth Siegel of Gainesville and Martha Jost of Chiefland; a sister, Patricia Griffin of Dallas, Texas; and four grandsons.

Charles Owen Moran

ORANGE PARK -- Charles Owen Moran died Wednesday at his residence in Orange Park. He was 82.

Mr. Moran was born in Beverly, Mass., and lived in Trenton for 27 years before moving to Orange Park two weeks ago.

He was a retired planner and estimator for the Boston Naval Shipyard.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Mr. Moran was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

He enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Olive Cleveland Moran of Orange Park; two daughters, Patricia Lesmerises of Orange Park and Janice Brown of Lake Orion, Mich.; two sons, Dennis Moran of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Donald Moran of Port St. Lucie; two sisters, Geraldine Reynolds and Bernadette Whelan, both of Lynn, Mass.; two brothers, Gordon Moran of Peabody, Mass., and Daniel Moran of Chino, Calif.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Adeline Moniz Principe

Adeline Moniz Principe of Gainesville died Tuesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. She was 78.

Mrs. Principe was born in in East Providence, R.I., and moved to Gainesville in 1992.

She worked for Healthtext as seamstress and she was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Union.

She was a Catholic.

Survivors include four sisters, Irene Arruda of Ocala, Mary Machado of St. Augustine, Pat McDaniel of Gainesville and Olivia Gough of Glen Burnie, Md.; and two brothers, Anthony Moniz of East Providence, R.I. and Manuel Moniz of Providence, R.I.

Claude Whitford Sr.

HAWTHORNE -- Claude Whitford Sr. of Hawthorne died Dec. 9 at Sunbridge of Gainesville following a brief illness. He was 88.

Mr. Whitford was born in Ray City, Ga., and moved to Hawthorne 60 years ago.

He was a brick cooker and a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Claude Whitford Jr. and Ronald Whitford, both of Hawthorne; 22 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Charlie George Christie

LAKE CITY -- Charlie George Christie died Thursday as a result of injuries from a motorcycle accident. He was 29.

He was a lifelong resident of Lake City.

He was a Baptist and enjoyed music and hunting.

Mr. Christie is preceded in death by his father, Charlie Christie.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jo Christie of Lake City, a son, Matthew Christie of Lake City; a daughter, Courtney Christie of Lake City; and one unborn child, Nikki or Zeke Christie; his mother, Sue King of Alachua; two sisters, Linda Sue Williams of Old Town and Teri Barcia of Alachua; maternal grandparents, Ralph and Francis Mills of Lake City; and paternal grandmother, Lizzie Christie of Lake City.

A memorial trust fund will be set up with the Community National Bank, 145 West Baya Ave. in Lake City.

David Hunt Fullerton

David Hunt Fullerton of Gainesville died Friday at his home after a short illness. He was 53.

Mr. Fullerton was born in New Brunswick, N.J., and moved to Largo in 1947.

He graduated from Clearwater Central Catholic High School there and joined the United State Navy in 1965, where he served on a number of nuclear submarines.

He moved to Gainesville in 1975 and graduated from the nursing program at Santa Fe Community College. He worked as a registered nurse at Alachua General Hospital, the Gainesville Veterans Administration Hospital and Shands Teaching Hospital.

He also was the director of the Cardiopulmonary Technology Program at Santa Fe Community College and was an instructor in the program.

He left SFCC in 1993 to found his own company, Cardiology Concepts.

In addition to his nursing career, Mr. Fullerton enjoyed singing with the Barber Gators, volunteering at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, donating gallons of blood at Civitan Regional Blood Center, sailing, and producing medical educational videos.

He is survived by his wife, Paula Barrett of Gainesville; two sons, Tony Barrett of Gainesville and Brian Barrett of Sarasota; a brother, John Fullerton of Gainesville; and four sisters, Catherine Foley of Atlanta, Margaret Cameron of Houston, Texas, Grace Shinaman of Clearwater and Dorothy O'Brien of Hadden Heights, N.J.

Mr. Fullerton was expecting to become a grandfather in January.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be contributions to Hospice of North Central Florida or Kanapaha Botanical Gardens in lieu of flowers.

Lorraine George

Loraine George of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Care Center. She was 87.

She lived in Blairsville, Pa., before moving to Gainesville in 1990.

She was a homemaker and a librarian at the Blairsville Public Library.

Mrs. George is preceded in death by her husband, Paul "Skee" George.

She is survived by a son, Paul George of Gainesville, a daughter, Judy Godfrey of Aix-en-Provence, France; a sister, Irene Johnston of Greensburg, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

Thomas Martin

KEYSTONE HEIGHTS -- Thomas Martin of Melrose died Thursday. He was 67.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Melrose from Jacksonville 30 years ago.

He was a chief in the United States Navy. He received the Purple Heart.

Mr. Martin did volunteer work at the Veterans Administration office.

He was a member of the Episcopal church.

He is survived by three daughters, Lee Ann Newsom of Carbondale, Ill., Laura Sliker of Melrose and Katrina Mackrides of Orlando; a son, Thomas J. Martin of Keystone Heights; a brother, Robert Martin of Bloomingdale, N.J.; three sisters, Betty Kristiansen of Bloomingdale, N.J., Jane Hagstrum of Manchester, Maine, and Elenor Lewis of Long Island, N.Y.; and 5 grandchildren.

Richard Maibauer

STEINHATCHEE -- Richard "Captain Baldy" Maibauer of Steinhatchee died Wednesday at Shands at UF. He was 55.

Mr. Maibauer was born in Staten Island, N.Y., and moved to Steinhatchee from Jupiter 10 years ago.

He was a retired fireman and policeman in Palm Beach County. He was a Protestant and a member of the Moose Club in Jupiter.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne Maibauer of Steinhatchee; and a sister, Freda Maibauer-Gee of Florida.

Cleve Pridgen

Cleve Pridgen died Thursday at his home after an extended illness. He was 74.

Born in Sarasota, he moved to Gainesville in 1994.

He worked with the Herald-Tribune in Sarasota and the Sarasota Journal, retiring as Manager of Circulation Operations after a 40-year career.

He was affiliated with the Baptist church his entire life, including Bee Ridge Baptist and First Baptist Church of Sarasota and First Baptist Church of Gainesville. He was involved in Christian and adult education.

Mr. Pridgen enjoyed recreation and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Jane Pridgen of Panama City; three sons, David Pridgen of Panama City, Dennis Pridgen of Inglesido, Texas, and Michael Pridgen of Lake City; a daughter, Cindy Pridgen of Pasadena, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of North Central Florida.

Jeanette M. Robinson

Jeanette M. Robinson of Gainesville died Thursday in Alachua. She was 78.

Mrs. Robinson was a homemaker.

Born in Waterville, Maine, she moved from Miami to Gainesville nine years ago.

She enjoyed crocheting and playing musical instruments.

Mrs. Robinson was a Catholic.

Survivors include her husband, Seymour Robinson of Gainesville; a daughter, Pamela McCamish of West Palm Beach; two sons, Donald Robinson of Boston and David Robinson of Gainesville; a brother, Donald Mourency of Hartford, Conn.; and six grandchildren.
