He was the retired proprietor of Ackerman Well Drillers, attended St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hudson, was past president of the Country Club Estates Civic Association in Hudson, past president of the North Haledon Businessmen's Association and a member of Fire Company #2 in North Haledon. He is survived by his wife, Catherine; a son, Harry D. of Absecon, N.J.; a daughter, Joan H. Duffy of Pompton Plains, N.J.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
