Theodore Elmo Parker

LAKE CITY - Theodore Elmo Parker, 83, of Lake City, died Saturday, May 8, in the V.A. Medical Center, Lake City, following an extended illness.

Mr. Parker had been employed in the maintenance department of the Alachua County School Board for 15 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

A native of Ocala, Mr. Parker had resided in Micanopy before moving to Lake City. He was a charter member of the Oakdale Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nina Parker of Lake City; his daughter, Dorothy (Clint) Waltrip of Lake City; his grandson Shawn Stephens of Lake City; his sister, Vernice Sheltrone of Hernando; and a grandson.

Carol Joann Wehling

STARKE - Carol Joann Wehling of Starke died Saturday after an extended illness. She was 58.

Mrs. Wehling was a homemaker, who was born in Starke and lived there most of her life.

She was a member of Union Primitive Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Wehling of Starke; a daughter, Deborah Watson of Starke; a son, Donald Gregory Dukes of Jacksonville; a son-in-law, Leland Watson of Starke; her mother and stepfather, Alva and Stanley Padgett of Lake Butler; three brothers, Doug Thomas of Atlanta, Sam Moody of Lake Butler and Jimmy Werre of Fernandina Beach; one sister, Susan Ray of Lake Butler; and two grandchildren.

Pearl Barbara Goble

Pearl Barbara Goble of Gainesville died Saturday at AGH at Shands. She was 79.

Mrs. Goble was born in Hazard, Ky., and came here from Ypsilanti, Mich., in 1981.

She was a cosmetologist and a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Salvation Army Home League. She was a member of the First Nazarene Church.

She is survived by two sisters, Faye Cornelius and Betty Smith, both of Gainesville; two brothers, Robert Blackburn and Ray Blackburn, both of Ypsilanti; and several nieces and nephews.

Glenn E. Pinner

Glenn E. Pinner of Palatka died Friday in Jacksonville. He was 49.

Mr. Pinner was a born in Jacksonville and moved to Palatka 2-1/2 years ago.

Mr. Pinner was a teacher and he enjoyed reading and writing short stories.

He graduated from the University of Florida with a master's in urban and rural development.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and retired as an officer in the Army. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of High Springs.

Mr. Pinner is survived by his mother, Margaret Scheid of Palatka; two sons, David Pinner and Kyle Pinner, both of Gainesville; and two sisters, Cathy Watkins of Palatka and Nancy Aycock of Athens, Ala.

Mark Harrison Smallwood

GROTTOES, Va. - Mark Harrison Smallwood of Grottoes, Va., died Friday in Grottoes. He was 86.

Mr. Smallwood was born in Monroe City, Mo. He graduated from the University of Florida and was an electrical engineering professor at UF. He served in the Army during World War II in England and North Africa.

Mr. Smallwood was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen Wendy Smallwood.

Survivors include two daughters, Jane Green of Grottoes and Kim Mills of Hillsboro, Ore.; and one granddaughter.

Patricia Ann Watmough

WALDO -- Patricia Ann Watmough of Waldo died Friday at Shands at AGH in Gainesville after a long illness. She was 64.

Mrs. Watmough co-owned and operated Town and Country in Waldo with her husband.

Born in Winslow, Maine, she moved from Warren, Maine, to Waldo 24 years ago.

Survivors include her husband, Warren Watmough of Waldo; two sons, Herbert H. Cox of Washington, Maine, and Michael Cox of Melrose; two daughters, Patricia Rasmussen of Cushing, Maine, and Betty Arlene Watmough of Waldo; five sisters, Louise Goudreau of Union, Maine, Carol McLaughlin of Liberty, Maine, Alice Eldridge of Newberry, Cleo Faircloth of Old Town and Kathy Butterman of Jacksonville; a brother, Vance Webber of Maine; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Larry Earl Cason

FORT WHITE -- Larry Earl Cason of Fort White died Saturday at his home following a long illness. He was 52.

Mr. Cason was a native of Fort White and lived in Casper, Wyo., before returning to Fort White in 1987. He was an electrician for Lightning Electric of Gainesville and graduated from Fort White High School in 1966.

Survivors include his wife, Lynn Cason of Fort White; two daughters, Dana Pelletier of Groveland and Trina Resmondo of Fort White; one stepson, Dan King of Denver, Colo.; his mother, Daisy Lee Cason of Fort White; his grandmother, Letha Dennis of Fort White; one brother, Billy Cason of Fort White; two sisters, Carolyn Crawford of Fort White and Debbie Mahaffey of Jasper; and eight grandchildren.

James Eldon Hardy

STARKE -- James Eldon Hardy of Starke died Saturday in his home following a long illness. He was 77.

Mr. Hardy was born in Enigma, Ga., and moved to Bradford County from Santa Fe in 1936. He was the owner of J.E. Hardy Auto Sales of Starke and previously worked for Seaboard Coastline Railroad. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Starke and was an avid Georgia Bulldog supporter.

Survivors include his wife Jo Ella Barry Hardy of Starke; three daughters, Janet Ivey of Marietta, Ga., Jayne Mendenhall of Athens, Ga., and June Schlader of Fruit Cove; one sister, Reba Lee Bryan of Gainesville; one brother, Douglas Hardy of Starke; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Expressions of sympathy may be made as donations to the First Baptist Church of Starke building fund, PO Box 1258, Starke, Fl., 32091; or Hospice of North Central Florida, 2400 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, Fl., 32606.

Ora Water Lindley

ORANGE HEIGHTS -- Ora Water Lindley of Orange Heights died Sunday in Starke. She was 90.

Mrs. Lindley was born in Wedowee, Ala, and moved to Orange Heights from Anniston, Ala., in 1958. She was a homemaker and attended the First Baptist Church of Hawthorne.

Survivors include two daughters, Loventrice Lindley Hubeka of Waldo and Billie Jean Lindley Sexton of Orange Heights; one brother, Thurmon Waters of Jacksonville, Ala.; four sisters, Winnie Mae Brown of Woodlane, Ala., Isbella Caps and Estelle Haynes, both of Oxford, Ala., and Ezelle Cross of Russellville, Ala.; and 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Morgan Lee Smith Jr.

NEWBERRY -- Morgan Lee Smith Jr. of Newberry died Saturday in Gainesville. He was 74.

Mr. Smith was born in Newberry. He was a civil engineer with the state Department of Transportation for 30 years and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Baptist and was married for 54 years.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Roberts Smith of Newberry; one daughter, Tricia Moore of Newberry; one son, Morgan Smith III of Newberry; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mary Jane Battillo

Mary Jane Battillo of Gainesville died Sunday in Gainesville. She was 79.

Mrs. Battillo was born in Hummelstown, Pa., and moved to Gainesville from Cashiers, N.C., in 1986.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Alachua General Hospital Auxiliary. She was a Catholic.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Heath of Gainesville; three sons, John A. Battillo of Orlando, Joseph Battillo of Hawthorne, and Robert Battillo of Miami; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Arthur M. Fletcher

WILLISTON -- Arthur M. Fletcher of Williston died Wednesday in Gainesville. He was 75.

Mr. Fletcher was born in Old Town and moved to Williston from St. Petersburg in 1981. He was a retired railroad engineer with Seaboard Coastline.

He also was a Shriner and a Mason and a member of First Baptist Church of Williston.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Fletcher of Williston; one son, Robert Fletcher of Clearwater; one daughter, Pamela Perry of Fairfield; and three grandchildren.

Susie Opal Gornto

GRANDIN -- Susie Opal Gornto of Grandin died Saturday at the Palatka Health Care Center following a long illness. She was 96.

Mrs. Gornto was born in Sampson and lived most of her life in Grandin. She was an active member of Paran Baptist Church in Grandin and was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 279 in Keystone Heights.

Mrs. Gornto graduated from the University of Florida in 1946 and earned a master's degree in education. She taught for 44 years in Florahome, Grandin, San Mateo and Keystone Heights.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, J.C. and Jackie Weeks of Grandin; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and six great-great- grandchildren.

Robert Michael Herrick

CEDAR KEY -- Robert Michael Herrick of Cedar Key died Saturday in Gainesville. He was 76.

Mr. Herrick was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Cedar Key from Beach Haven, N.J., 12 years ago.

He was a research psychologist with specializations in vision, psychophysics, and learning and training with simulators.

Mr. Herrick earned a bachelor's degree from Colgate University in 1949, a master's degree from Columbia University in 1950 and a doctorate from Columbia in 1954.

He served in the 309th Infantry in World War II, earning the Purple Heart and the World War II Victory medal.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Pulis Herrick of Cedar Key; one daughter, Patricia Lane of Sebastopol, Calif.; one son, Michael J. Herrick of Sewaren, N.J.; and grandchildren Abigail Herrick, Rebecca Herrick and Emily Herrick, all of Sewaren, and Dylan Robert Lane of Sebastopol.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of North Central Florida.

Wanda B. Crosby

Wanda B. Crosby died at her residence in Clinton, S.C., Tuesday. She was 73.

Mrs. Crosby was born in Portsmouth, N.H. and moved to Clinton from Melrose one year ago.

She was a member of Welcome Baptist Church of Laurens and a co-member of Eliam Baptist Church in Melrose.

She was a G.A. leader in the Okeechobee Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Gerald David Burk of Lakeland; three daughters, Priscilla Holman of Clinton, Beverly Henning and Shirley Farrow, both of Jacksonville; a sister, Myria Armstrong Salter of Lakeland; a half-brother, Gary Lee Rhymes of West Palm Beach; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great- grandchildren.
