Charles Henry Dubois

HAWTHORNE - Charles Henry Dubois, a longtime resident of Hawthorne, died Tuesday at his residence following a brief illness.

He was 97.

Mr. Dubois was a retired carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Trinity United Missionary Baptist Church at Mount Bethel in Edgar, where he served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Edgar Masonic Lodge No. 201.

Survivors include daughters Cherrestene D. Cohen of Gainesville and Willie Ruth Mazon of Edgar; and six grandchildren.

Marie Theresa Finn

Marie Theresa Finn of Gainesville died Wednesday in Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y. She was 73.

Mrs. Finn was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Margate in 1988.

She was a retired bank teller with First Union and a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, John Finn of Gainesville; a daughter, Reinette King of Gainesville; sons Joseph Finn of Lake Ronkonkoma, Vincent Finn of Melville, N.Y., and John P. Finn of Holbrook, N.Y.; a sister, Virginia Gonnoud of Garden City, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.

Walter O. Gillis

Walter O. Gillis died Thursday at his residence in Gainesville. He was 63.

Mr. Gillis was born in Washington, D.C., and moved to Gainesville from Lakeland in 1974.

He was a diesel mechanic for the Regional Transit System and a member of the Jonesville Baptist Church.

He enjoyed collecting model trains.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Nadine G. Gillis of Gainesville; daughters Pamela G. Andreu of Gainesville and Cheryl G. Rousey of Bronson; sisters Eleanor Inman of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Gay Carroll of St. Indigos, Md.; and three grandchildren.

John T. Heraty

John T. Heraty of Gainesville died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 76.

Mr. Heraty was born in Harlem, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville from Long Island, N.Y., more than 30 years ago.

He was a Catholic and the district manager of Flowers Baking Co. for 31 years. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine "Pat" Heraty of Gainesville; his mother, Emma Heraty of Greenwood Lake, N.Y.; daughters Laura Heraty of Orlando and Irene Vincent of High Springs; stepdaughters Sandra Bernardo of Branford, Cheryl Cooper of Kissimmee, Mary Heraty of Orange Park, Denise Vorhees of Bell and Jeanette Matvejs of Ocala; sons George M. Heraty of New Symrna Beach and Sean Heraty of Deltona; a stepson, William Kitchen of Lake City; sisters Emily Hagan and Dianne Quackenbush, both of Greenwood Lake, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Henry H. Houska Sr.

WILLISTON - Henry H. "Bud" Houska Sr. died Thursday at his residence. He was 84.

Mr. Houska was born in Long Island, N.Y., and moved to Williston from Tamarac 19 years ago.

He was a retired mechanical engineer and a Catholic. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Kathleen Houska of Williston; sons Henry H. Houska Jr. of Williston and James R. Houska of Panama City; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Tommy William Purvis

NEWBERRY - Tommy William Purvis, a lifelong resident of Newberry, died Wednesday at North Florida Regional Medical Center. He was 73.

Mr. Purvis was a retired superintendent of Ashland Oil and a member of Union Baptist Church. He was a Shriner and a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a member of the Florida Farm Bureau and honorary member of the Sandfly Hunting Club.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delorese Purvis; and a daughter, Carolyn Purvis.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Purvis of Newberry; a daughter, Sharon Shepard of Trenton; a son, Rodney Dewayne Purvis of High Springs; stepsons Bill and Jimmy Martin, both of Newberry; sisters Katie Davis of Port St. Joe and Nell Robinson of Keystone Heights; a brother, Lloyd Purvis of Trenton; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Edith F. Wilson

Edith F. Wilson, a longtime resident of Trenton, died Saturday at her daughter's home in Nahunta, Ga. She was 76.

Mrs. Wilson was a member of Little Rock Baptist Church in Nahunta.

She was preceded in death by three sons, Earl Frederick, Weedo Poole and David Poole.

Survivors include her husband, Henry Wilson Sr. of Trenton; daughters Barbara Bryant of Nahunta, Maty Louise Rhym of Orlando, Vera Jennings of Lake City and Bernice Norris, Pearlie Williams, Janet Sermon and Pamela Wilson, all of Trenton; a son, Wayne Wilson of Lake City; and 45 grandchildren.

Mary Williams Arnold

HIGH SPRINGS - Mary "Tiny" Williams Arnold died Wednesday at Shands at AGH following a brief illness. She was 90.

Mrs. Arnold was born in High Springs and lived in Jacksonville before returning to High Springs six years ago. She was a homemaker and a retired seamstress. She was a Baptist.

She has no immediate survivors.

Harvey Barnes

Harvey Barnes of Gainesville died Tuesday at his residence. He was 86.

Mr. Barnes was born in Forsythe County, N.C., and moved to Gainesville in 1987. He was an insurance agent and a member of Covenant Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynne Ellis of Basye, Va.; a sister, Esther Holder of Winston-Salem, N.C.; and two grandchildren.

Daniel Thomas Dougherty

Daniel Thomas Dougherty, a lifelong resident of Gainesville, died Tuesday at Nature Coast Regional Hospital in Williston. He was 42.

Mr. Dougherty enjoyed fishing, watching movies and playing video games.

Survivors include his fiancee, Angela Nickell of Bronson; daughters Amy Nicole Bond of Gainesville and Tina Marie Dougherty of Archer; his mother, Lorine Dougherty of Archer; sisters Lorri King of Cross City and Pamela Holt of Newberry; and a grandchild.

Ann L. Lloyd

Ann L. Lloyd of Gainesville died Nov. 10 at Palm Garden Rehabilitation Center. She was 95.

Mrs. Lloyd was born in Pratts Hollow, N.Y., and moved to Gainesville in 1971.

She was a schoolteacher. She attended painting classes and volunteered at the Hawthorne library.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A. Lloyd.

Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Durland of Springfield, Ore.; sons Robert A. Lloyd of New Orleans and James E. Lloyd of Gainesville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Katherine R. Martin

WILLISTON - Katherine R. Martin, a lifelong resident of Williston, died Wednesday at Nature Coast Hospital in Williston. She was 86.

Mrs. Martin enjoyed fishing and cooking.

She is survived by her niece and caretaker, Marlene Munden of Williston.

Willie McClellon Jr.

LACROSSE - Willie "Joe Louis" McClellon Jr. died Monday at Hospice Care Center in Gainesville. He was 65.

Mr. McClellon was born in Santa Fe and lived in Miami before moving to LaCrosse three years ago.

He was a truck driver and attended Alachua County public schools.

He was a member of New Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons Rodney Brantley Sr. and David Brantley, both of Miami; a daughter, Kimberly Patten-Banks of Miami; his mother, Phillis McClellon of LaCrosse; brothers Clarence McClellon and Richard McClellon, both of LaCrosse, McArthur McClellon of High Springs, and Horace McClellon of Gainesville; sisters Juanita Nelson of Tampa, Ella M. Fulcher of LaCrosse and Cynthia Harris of Gainesville; and eight grandchildren.

Johnnie Screen

CHIEFLAND - Johnnie Screen, a lifelong resident of Chiefland, died Friday at the Hospice of North Central Florida following an extended illness. He was 75.

Mr. Screen was a truck driver.

He attended New Jerusalem Church.

He is survived by his caregivers, Betty and Timothy "Buddy" Monroe of Williston.
