Charles Bowman, 69 Ocala

Charles E. Bowman, 69, Ocala, died Sunday Aug. 17, 2003, at Monroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala.

Born in Crystal River, he moved to Ocala in 2000 from Leesburg.

He reitred in 1996 as a utilites manager with the city of Leesburg after 26 years of service.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ocala.

He was a Korean War veteran.

He enjoyed fishing and golf.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Frances Bostick Bowman of Ocala; three sons, Timothy E. Bowman of Ocala, Rodney R. Bowman of Atoka, Tenn., and Steven H. Bowman of Callaway; three brothers, Harry L. Bowman of Ocala, Lynn H. Bowman of Milwaukee, Wis., and John T. Bowman of Kelford, N.C.; two sisters, Frances Spivey of Bosser City, La., and Mary Alice Hope of Holiday; and four grandchildren.

John Brown, 76 Dunnellon

John D. Brown, 76, Dunnellon, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Sylvia's Hospice House in Ocala.

A native of Fort Benning, Ga., he was born on August 12, 1927, to John D. Brown and Sally Brown (Murphy). He moved to Dunnellon 25 years ago from Charleston, S.C.

Mr. Brown was retired from the U.S. Navy with 30 years of service. He received the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer after serving in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.

He was Protestant.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fleet Reserve Association.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by a brother, Bucky Brown; and two sisters, Ora Brown and Allene Worthy.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Elett Brown of Dunnellon; sons Ron brown of Jacksonville and John W. Brown of Grove City, Pa.; sisters Louise Stott and M. Daphne Freeman, both of Jacksonville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Buel J. Stevenson, 80

Buel J. Stevenson, 80, of Jasper, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, in Jasper. A native of Erwin, N.C., he came here in 1987 from Raeford, N.C.

Mr. Stevenson was a meteorologist for the National Weather Service. He was Baptist and a member of the American Legion of Dunnellon. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Survivors include his wife, Frances H. Stevenson of Jasper and several nieces and nephews.

Renzo H. Thomas, 73

Renzo H. "Shorty" Thomas, 73, of Dunnellon, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, at his residence. A native of Dowling Park, he moved to Dunnellon 18 years ago from Palm Harbor, where he had lived for 28 years.

Mr. Thomas was a retired heavy equipment operator for the city of Clearwater, serving for 28 years. He was a member of the Curlew Baptist Church, Palm Harbor, and a member of the Ramsey Bend Hunting Club in Steinhatchee.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannette; daughters, D. Renee Nestor (and husband Ed) of Bentonville, Ark., Michele J. Burch (and husband Keith) of Indialantic, Fla.; sons, R. Terry Thomas (and wife Kim) of Palm Harbor, Joseph B. Thomas (and wife Mary Marie) of Boston, Ga.; brothers, Buddy Thomas of Taladega, Ala., Eugene B. Thomas of Crystal River, Willard B. Larry and David Thomas, both of Jena, Fla., and Clarisse Thomas of New Port Richey; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Selma 'Sally' Fornero, 87 Homosassa

Selma "Sally" Fornero, 87, Homosassa, died Thursday Aug. 14, 2003, at her home.

Mrs. Forenero was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Collinsville, Ill., to Walter and Lillian Golightly. She came here six years ago.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member for 50 years of the Fist Presbyterian Church of Collinsville, Ill., and more recently a member of the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa.

She was preceded in death by her husband John M. Forenero.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Crawley (Joe) of Homosassa, and Judith (Ed) Covey of Camp Point, Ill.; son Roger (Joyce) Fornero of Plant City; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren with one due in November.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Homosassa or Hospice of Citrus County.

Sarah Garrick, 89 Lecanto

Sarah E. Johns Garrick, 89, Lecanto, formerly of Tarpon Springs, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at her home under the care of Hospice.

She was born in St. Petersburg, moved to Tarpon Springs in 1933, then to Lecanto in 1989.

Mrs. Garrick was the owner of Humpty Dumpty Day Care in Anlcote for 30 years.

She was a Past Worthy Matron of Order of the Eastern Star Electra Chapter 18.

She was preceded in death by her husband George Garrick; and son, David Monte Johns Sr.

Survivors include her sister, Helen Taylor of Ocala; daughter-in-law Barbara Johns of Beverly Hills, five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Daniel 'Danny Dee' Gourvil, 60Elizabeth City, N.C.

Daniel Rene "Danny Dee" Gourvil, 60, Elizabeth City, N.C., formerly of Citrus County, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, in Elizabeth City.

He was born in Cooke County, Ill., to Rene Gourvil and Augusta Gens Gourvil Pitard.

Mr. Gourvil was a musician and served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife, Judith Nelson Gourvil; his mother, August Gens Gourvil Pitard of Citrus Springs; four daughters, Danielle Rene Robinson of Paris, Ky., Robin Clouse of Jackson, N.J., Cynthia Miller and Lisa Jackson both of Lecanto; a son, David Schron of Elizabeth City, N.C.; and one brother, George Pitard of Florida.

A memorial service was Sunday, Aug. 17, in Elizabeth City.

Laurel Victoria Jurban, an infant, Citronelle, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003.

She was born April 7, 2003, in Crystal River to Thomas Jurban Jr. and Candace John-son.

Survivors include her parents, Thomas Jurban Jr. and Candace Johnson of Citronelle; brother, Thomas Jurban III of Citronele; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Sabrina Jurbin of Citronelle; maternal grandparents, William and Deborah Johnson of Hernando; two uncles; two aunts; and two cousins.
