Jean Wells, 76 Beverly Hills

Jean Wells, 76, Beverly Hills, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, in Hernando.

Born March 3, 1927, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Robert and Vida Stevenson Mills, she came here in 1986.

She was a retired long distance telephone operator for Bell of Canada.

She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Episcopal Church, Lecanto; New England Club of Beverly Hills; UAW Senior Council, Ocala; and Citrus Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Inverness.

Survivors include her husband, John W. Wells of Beverly Hills; daughter, Deborah J. Ford of St. Davids, Pa.; brothers, William Mills of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Douglas Mills of Parker, Ariz.; sister, Joan Mills of Windsor, Ontario, Canada; and two grandsons.

Michael Zelneronok, 94 Crystal River

The Very Reverend Mitred Archpriest Michael Zelner-onok, 94, Crystal River, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003.

He was born June 12, 1909, in Latvia and was the last remaining Latvian Orthodox Priest in exile. He was ordained a priest in 1936 in Riga, Latvia, and served in Riga and Liepaja until 1940 at which time the Russian Army overran the country. He escaped in 1944 to Germany and ministered to Christians in displaced prison camps throughout Germany.

In 1951 he immigrated with his immediate family to America and moved to California where he founded The St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in America. He served as pastor in the church until 1971 and then was reassigned to San Diego, Calif. He served in San Diego until his retirement in 1987. He moved to Florida in 1995.

Survivors include his son, Dr. Nicholai Zelneronok and wife, Peggy, of Crystal River; daughter, Larissa Anderson of Conway, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

Dennis G. Cregan, 58, Landscaper

Dennis G. Cregan, 58, of Bushnell, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, in Volusia County. A native of Staten Island, N.Y., he moved to Sumter County two years ago, formerly of Seminole. Mr. Cregan was a landscape nursery operator. He was a Navy veteran. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; two daughters, Amanda Lamo of Manasquan, N.J., and Elizabeth Cregan of Brielle, N.J.; stepson, Dennis Pittsley of St. Pete, N.J.; stepdaughter, Christine Vance of Largo; and four grandchildren. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Robert Grimes, 75, Equipment Operator

Robert C. Grimes, 75, of Lake Panasoffkee, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, in Leesburg. A native of Batavia, Ohio, he moved here five years ago from Orlando. Mr. Grimes was a heavy equipment operator in the excavation industry. He was a veteran of the Army during the Korean Conflict and attended First Baptist Church of Lake Panasoffkee. Survivors include his wife, Memorie; two sons, Robert Grimes Jr. of Orlando and Billy Joe Grimes of Lake Panasoffkee; two brothers, Warren Grimes of Deland and Earl G. Grimes of Milford, Ohio; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren. Services were held Sept. 5 at Purcell Funeral Home Chapel, Bushnell with Pastor R. Jon King officiating. Interment at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Alice S. King, 78, Salesperson

Alice S. King, 78, of Lake Panasoffkee, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, in Inverness. A native of Walton County, Ga., she moved here in 1984 from Walton County, Ga. She had lived in Loganville, Ga., for over 30 years. Mrs. King was a salesperson and a member of the DAV Chapter #96, Lake Panasoffkee. She was a Christian. Survivors include her husband, Richard C. "Red"; two sons, Doyle Hester of Stafford, Va., Michael Hester of Loganville, Ga.; two daughters, Darlene Devine of Bellflower, Calif., Gail Huff of Monroe, Ga.; four step-daughters, Clare Taber of Lake Panasoffkee, Rita King of Summerville, S.C., Joy Vella of Buffalo, N.Y., Hope A. Biddle of Summerville, S.C.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. There was no local service. Services were held in Monroe, Ga. and interment was at Hill Haven Memory Garden, Monroe, Ga. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, provided the information.

Anthony Notter, 56, Mechanic

Anthony Owen Notter, 56, of Kissimmee, died Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, in Tampa. A native of Detroit, Mich., he moved to Central Florida 25 years ago, formerly of Michigan. Mr. Notter was a mechanic in the automotive industry. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the Army. He was Presbyterian. Survivors include a sister, Mary Crosby of Kissimmee; two nieces; one nephew; and one grand nephew. Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, with military honors rendered. Interment at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Daniel Ogilvie, 93, Farmer

Daniel Ogilvie, 93, of Dade City, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, in Dade City. He was a lifelong farmer and moved to Dade City in 1972 from Michigan. Survivors include two sons, Danl of Webster and Marvin of Michigan; five grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great, great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sept. 8 at the Oakley Funeral Home in Dade City with burial at the Chapor Hill cemetery in Dade City. Oakley Funeral Homes, Dade City, provided the information.

Kathleen Sheats, 74, CAN

Kathleen Coleman Sheats, 74, of Leesburg, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, in Leesburg. A native of Center Hill, she was a lifelong resident of Sumter County. Mrs. Sheats was a CNA in Elder Care. She was a member of St. Catherine Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Bennett of Center Hill; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Donald Coleman and Kenny Coleman, both of Webster, and Eugene Coleman of Cross City; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Sept. 8 at Purcell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Graham officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bushnell. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Donald D. West, 46, Auto body tech

Donald D. West, 46, of Wildwood, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, in Wildwood. A native of Leesburg, he lived in the Sumter County area all his life. Mr. West retired from West & Sons Auto Body & Paint. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Wildwood. Survivors include his wife Jayne; sons, Derrick of Belleview and Darren of Wildwood; daughters, Dannielle and Jennifer, both of Wildwood; brother, Darrell of Dothan, Ala.; sisters, Dolores and Dianne West of Wildwood; sister-in-law, Jane Adair Rice of Wildwood; nephew, Billy Bolling of Adamsville; and three grandchildren. Funeral service for Mr. West was Sept. 4 at Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home, Wildwood, with Rev. Craig Attaway officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home, Wildwood, handled the arrangements.

Betty J. Wright, 61, Homemaker

Betty Jean Wright, 61, of Center Hill, died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2003, in Leesburg. A native of Geneva, Ala., she moved here in 1970, formerly of St. Pete. Mrs. Wright was a homemaker. She was a member of Bushnell Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Broward A.; two sons, Wayne Wright and Chris Wright, both of Center Hill; four brothers, Henton Simmons of Mabel, Fla., Hubert Simmons of New Port Richey, Bobby Simmons of Center Hill and Billy Simmons of Bushnell; sister, Lois Gray of Bushnell, and many nieces and nephews. Services were held Sept. 6 at Bushnell Church of Christ with Mr. Marlin Kilpatrick officiating. Interment at Center Hill Cemetery, Center Hill. Purcell Funeral Home, Bushnell, handled the arrangements.

Eva Barkofski, 87 Inverness

Eva Julia Barkofski, 87, Inverness, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Avante' at Inverness.

A native of Bethlehem, Pa., she was born Oct. 9, 1915, to Martin and Anna Wukich. She came to Florida in 1992 from Bronx, N.Y.

She was a shipping clerk in a button distributorship business.

She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish.

Her husband, Joseph Barkofski, died in 1987.

Survivors include one son, Joseph M. Barkofski of Salem, Ore.; two brothers, Frank Wukich of White City, Ore., and Thomas Wukich of Waldwick, N.J.; two sisters, Mary Moore of Wantaugh, N.Y., and Margaret Wukich of Inverness; and nieces and nephews.

William 'Gerry' Casey Sr., 99 Ocala

William G. "Gerry" Casey Sr., 99, Ocala, formerly of Inverness, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, in Ocala.

Born May 29, 1904, in Lowell, Mass., to William and Eugenie Casey, he came to Inverness in 1974.

Mr. Casey was a retired managing director for Plant-Huyck Austria PTY, Ltd.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, Inverness.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Mabel Small Casey of Ocala; two sons, William G. Casey Jr. of Brownsville, Vt., and Dr. James T. Casey of Ocala; two sisters, Sister Mary Joachim and Geraldine Provencher of Sisters of Mercy, Wooster, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ronald Giglio, 55 Citrus Springs

Ronald L. Giglio, 55, Citrus Springs, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at his home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County.

He was born March 18, 1948, in New York, N.Y., to Joseph and Marie Giglio. He moved here from Long Island, N.Y., in 1982.

Mr. Giglio was a maintenance worker for the Public School System in Long Island, N.Y.

He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast.

Survivors include his parents, Joseph and Marie Giglio of Clearwater; two daughters, Gina Verdon of Long Island, N.Y., and Stefanie Giglio of Citrus Springs; two sisters, Jane Decker of Citrus Springs and JoAnn Crowley of Dunedin; and three grandchildren.

James 'Jim' Long, 84 Inverness

James Edward "Jim" Long, 84, Inverness, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness.

Born Feb. 24, 1919, in Detroit, Mich., to James and Margaret (Cyphers) Long, he came here in 1991 from Winter Haven.

Mr. Long was a retired air-conditioning assembler. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary Ellen (Wagar) Long; sister, Berdina Holford of Jackson, Mich.; and nine nieces and nephews.
