Joseph Demers, 91

Joseph F. Demers, 91, of Citrus Springs, died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, in Crystal River. Born May 26, 1912, in Canada to Joseph Alphonse and Ann Demers, he moved here 15 years ago from Detroit, Mich.

Mr. Demers served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a tool and die maker for Hawthorne Tool Company in Detroit for 20 years.

He was an avid chess player, small aircraft pilot and enjoyed sailing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Demers, in 1984.

Mr. Demers is survived by a nephew, Joseph Monahan, of Clinton Township, Mich.

Bobby J. Gentry, 22

Bobby Joel Gentry, 22, a student, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at Santa Rosa Medical Center in Milton.

Mr. Gentry was a native of New Port Richey. He was Baptist.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia Zizio of Navarre; father, Vernon Gentry of Ocala; sisters, Gina Gentry of Chattanooga and Laura Zizio of Ocala; grandparents, Betty Davis of Inglis, Juanita Pines and William Davenport, both of Live Oak.

Carolyn R. Grant, 56

Carolyn R. Grant, 56, of Dunnellon, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at Munroe Regional Hospital in Ocala.

Mrs. Grant was a teacher at Dunnellon Elementary School and the most hospitable and kind person one could ever meet. She was a devoted member of the Marion Education Association and very active in this organization, avidly attending local, state and national meetings. She was a very active member of Mt. Olive A.M.E. Church.

Survivors include her husband, James; daughter, Shani Brown; three sons, Christopher Jones, Alva Brown and Stephen Grant; mother, Mrs. Bernice Porter; four sisters, Leardis Jones, Brenda Stephens, Frenchie Porter and Mary Terrell; brother, Lorone Porter; one grandchild, K'aisha; stepdaughter, Carla Harvey; stepson, James Grant II; four step-grandchildren, Brantley, Byran, Shambria, Demetric; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. in Cunningham's Chapel of Faith. Viewing at the church on Saturday, from 9 a.m. until service hour. No viewing after Eulogy.

Funeral service for Mrs. Grant will be on Saturday, Nov. 15, at First Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Connelly (Eulogy)/Rev. Alec Richardson, pastor, conducting the service. Burial will be in the Dunnellon Community cemetery under the direction of Cunningham's Funeral Home.

Herman W. Hagedorn, 72

Herman Willard Hagedorn, 72, of Morriston, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at his residence. A native of Pontiac, Mich., he moved here nine years ago from Ocala.

Mr. Hagedorn was a retired auto body repairman.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Virginia "Su" Hagedorn of Morriston; sons, David Hagedorn of Gaylord, Mich., Herman Stott of Oklahoma and Forrest Stott of Michigan; daughters, Cheryl Yoder of Warren, Mich., Kimberly McCullars of Ocala and Mary Mihalyfi of Montana, Patricia Stott of Oklahoma and Joette Vlieg of Arizona; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia A. Hagedorn.

A Direct Cremations Inc., Gainesville, provided the information.

Dorothy Lang-Bockius, 83

Dorothy Lang-Bockius, 83, of Hernando, formerly of Beverly Hills, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003, in Hernando. She was born Feb. 1, 1920 in Bronx, N.Y., daughter to Joseph and Louise (Kemmara) Schneider. She was a lifelong resident of Bronx, N.Y., until moving to Beverly Hills in 1976.

Mrs. Lang-Bockius was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Beverly Hills, and Our Lady of Grace Women's Club.

She was an avid bingo player and loved playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Land, in 1991 and son, Charles Lang, in 1975.

Survivors include two daughters, Candy L. Carlyle of Dacula, Ga., and Joyce D. Vaughn of Dunnellon; three granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.

Bruce Melvin, 67

Bruce Allen Melvin, 67, of Yankeetown, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at his home. He was born in Freeport and came here from Sweetwater 15 years ago.

Mr. Melvin was an airline mechanic and a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include daughter, Annette Melvin of Springfield, Ohio; son, Andrew Melvin of Springfield, Ohio; brother, Leonard Melvin of Camby, Ind.; and one granddaughter.

Mary Milliron, 87

Mary Fredericka Milliron was born Feb. 8, 1916 in Old Frame, Pa., to parents Royden C. and Lulu (Thronbie) Grimm. She grew up in Pennsylvania, moving with her family many times over the years. She married William Andrew Milliron Jan. 15, 1934. After he died in 1970, she spent time living with two of her sons, one in Minnesota and one in Ohio. In 1986, she and a long-time best girlfriend, "Grandma Bert, " moved to Dunnellon where they shared a home. Mary cared for Bert until her death in 1993.

She died Oct. 19, 2003 at her home in Minnesota at the age of 87 years. "We will miss you Grammy."

She is survived by sons William (Shirley) Milliron of Florida, Donald (Sally) Milliron of Ohio, Martin (Glona) Milliron of Ohio; daughter-in-law Kay Milliron; grandchildren Lynn (Mark) Meeker, William (Geri) Milliron, Donald (Lisa) Milliron, Kimberly (Jay) Luccioni, Dan Milliron, Stefanie (Michael) Leibel, Brian Milliron, Shawn (Brenda) Milliron, Christina (Matt) Skally, Matthew (Charlene) Milliron; 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Milliron; infant twin sons, James Earl and John Meryl, son George; infant grandson Martin Jr., and infant brother Clayton.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Ohio.

Arrangements handled by Rock Mankie Burial and Cremation Service of Braham, Minn.

Scott P. Stanton, 33

Scott Peter Stanton, 33, of Dunnellon, died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2003, in Ocala. Born in Ridgewood, N.J., he moved to Dunnellon from New York on month ago. He was Catholic and a member of St. Stevens Catholic Church.

Survivors include his mother and father, Robert and Susan Stanton, both of Dunnellon; three sisters, Ivey Stanton-Stephenson of Dennesaw, Ga., Corinne Stanton and Lona Stanton, both of Warwick, N.J.

Arlie C. Steele, 81

Arlie Clara Steele, 81, of Dunnellon, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, in Dunnellon. A native of Sand Fork, W.Va., she came here in 1987 from Ludlow Falls, Ohio.

Mrs. Steele was a homemaker. She was a member of United Church of Christ in Ludlow Falls, VFW in Hernando, American Legion in Ohio and the Eagles in West Milton, Ohio.

Survivors include three sons, Roy A. Steele of Huber Heights, Ohio, Donnie L. Steele of Jamestown, Ohio, Johnie D. Steele of Ludlow Falls, Ohio; three daughters, Alberta F. "Bert" Roberts and Sonda K. Miller, both of Dunnellon, and Carolyn S. Brumbaugh of Bradford, Ohio; brother, William McCullough of Phillipsburg, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three step grandchildren.

Barbara Ann Whitehurst, 64

Barbara Ann Whitehurst, 64, of Franklin, N.C., formerly of Dunnellon, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, in a local hospital. A native of Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of Dominic P. D'Ramio and the late Theresa Allen D'Ramio. She was married to the late Stephen L. Whitehurst. She lived in Dunnellon for 38 years before moving to Franklin, N.C.

Mrs. Whitehurst was a retired security law enforcement officer.

In addition to her father, Dominic P. D'Ramio of Franklin, she is survived by a number of friends and relatives.

No services are planned.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Macon County Unit, P.O. Box 1648, Franklin, N.C. 28744.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald J. Dahl, 78, of Oak Run

Donald J. Dahl, of Oak Run, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 at Ocala Regional Medical Center, Ocala. A native of Horton, Kansas, he has resided in the Ocala area since 1993, formerly of Freeport, Ill. He was 78.

Mr. Dahl was a retired road contractor. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge 617 of Freeport, Ill. He was an Air Force veteran with the 82nd Airborne Division, serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, June; daughter, Gloria Read of Freeport, Ill.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ocala.

Robert G. Denman, 67, of Blairsville, Ga.

Robert Geye Denman, of Blairsville, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, in Blairsville, Ga. A native of Anniston, Ala., he came here in 1972 from Dalton, Ga., then moved to Blairsville five years ago. He was 67.

Mr. Denman was a real estate broker and the former owner and operator of Bob Denman Realty in Ocala. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Ocala and a member of the Ocala Kiwanis Club. He was past officer of the Ocala Board of Realtors and had received his GRI (Graduate Realtors Institute) and a graduate of Auburn University. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Lytle Denman of Blairsville, Ga.; son, Robert Lytle Denman of Ocala; three daughters, Debbie Holt of Valdosta, Ga., Nicole Johnson of Ocala, and Tricia Denman of Atlanta, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
