Major Robert W. Reed
Major Robert W. Reed, 02/19/1953 - 06/06/2008 Robert W. Reed, a native of Coconut Grove, passed away on June 6 at South Miami Hospital, where he under went surgery after suffering a massive aneurysm and remained in ICU for three weeks. He was a graduate of Coral Gables High School; M.D.C.C. attended F.I.U and the University of Virginia where he graduated from the FBI Academy. He was pre- deceased by his parents, Leland A. and Ruth C. Reed. He is survived by his loving wife, Dottie B. Reed, his brother, Richard C. Reed, 14 brothers and sisters-in-law, 25 nieces and nephews along with many colleagues, friends and neighbors who also loved him. Robert joined the City of Miami Police Department in 1974 and soon after was accepted on to the K-9 Detail. After being promoted to Sergeant he continued to lead the detail for almost a decade. He was a state certified judge and often judged K-9 competitions in various counties and states. Robert was also a certified expert witness for the courts with trials regarding dog bites. He continued to rise up through the ranks as a Lieutenant, and then as the Downtown NET Commander, before retiring as a Major in 2006. He had a private pilots license and was a certified Specialty Diver for search and recovery, among many other scuba certifications. He loved the Florida Keys where he and his wife spent much of there time boating & diving. Robert was always a loyal friend, always available to help whenever called upon. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation was held on June 11 at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Funeral Home, 11655 SW 117 Ave., Miami, (305) 238-3672. Hubert, Rosomoff, M.D
Hubert, Rosomoff, M.D. D.Med.Sc., world-renowned neurological surgeon and researcher, a giant in the world of academic Medicine, Neurological Surgery and Research, died on June 5. He was 81. He was the son of Morris Rosomoff of Kiev, Russia and the former Caroline Green of Philadelphia. Born in Philadelphia, and obtained a B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Rosomoff obtained his M.D. degree from Hahnemann Medical College. He completed a neurological surgery residency at both the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and the Neurological Institute of New York. He was a consultant from the United States to the Institute for Artificial Hibernation and Resuscitation in Moscow, U.S.S.R. Dr. Rosomoff returned to the Neurological Institute in 1957 to complete training and in 1960, obtained a D.Med.Sc. Degree in Physiology from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He served as a Surgeon and Research Physiologist in the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of Lt. Commander. In 1956, Dr. Rosomoff earned the American Academy of Neurological Surgery Award for his ground-breaking research into hypothermia. In 1959, Dr. Rosomoff joined the faculty of the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine as Clinical Assistant Professor, and Chief of Neurological Surgery at the Veterans Administration Hospital. He remained at the University of Pittsburgh until 1966, when he became Professor and the youngest Chairman in history at the prestigious Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. In 1971, Dr. Rosomoff became Professor and the first Chairman of the newly autonomous Department of Neurological Surgery at the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. Dr. Rosomoff became recognized as a world authority in many areas such as pain and its treatment and the development of the radiological criteria which led to the present day interpretations of CAT-scans and MRIs. In 1974, he founded the University of Miami's Comprehensive Pain and Rehabilitation Center. He served as its Medical Director, and his wife Renee Rosomoff as Programs Director. In 1994, he became Professor and Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Neurological Surgery, to devote fulltime effort to the Pain Center, which was then established as a Center of Excellence by the University of Miami. In 2003 the Center was renamed in their honor and is now known as the Rosomoff Comprehensive Pain Center now located at the Miami Jewish Home and Hospital. He helped to found numerous National and International Pain Societies and he served as President of the American Pain Society, American Academy of Pain Medicine, and the Southern Pain Society. Dr. Rosomoff helped to develop the specialty of Pain Medicine, which has been recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He was selected by the governor to serve as Vice-Chairman of the Florida Pain Commission. Along with his wife and Co-director, Renee Rosomoff, he helped to develop pain rehabilitation centers and hospitals in Colombia, Peru, India, Israel, and Egypt. A pain treatment center in Cali, Colombia bears his name, Clinica Especializada de Columna Rosomoff. He passed away on June 5, 2008, with his loving wife, Renee, his sons, Richard and Peter, step-daughter Cathy and sister-in-law, Gigi at his side. He was dearly loved by his grandchildren Sarah and Jake, his extended family of sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, his Pain Team family and all who knew him. Ralph Bruck
DELAND -- Ralph E. Bruck, 91, of Palm Terrace, a native of Cleveland, died Friday at home.
Mr. Bruck, a former rural letter carrier in Ohio, was an accomplished teacher of organ music and fine stained glass art. He also enjoyed fine cabinet woodworking.

PORT ORANGE -- Virginia E. Cain-Jurevic, 92, of Peninsula Drive, a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, died Friday at Betty's Elderly Care, South Daytona.
Mrs. Cain-Jurevic, a retired bookkeeper, was born in Worden, Ill., and moved to this area in 1997 from Clearwater. She enjoyed reading and crocheting.

DELAND -- Elsina George, 92, of East Hubbard Avenue, who was born on St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, died Friday at home.
Mrs. George, a homemaker, came here in 1979 from Keokuk, Iowa. She was a member of the West DeLand Jehovah's Witnesses and the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania.

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Sean Patrick Collins, 28, South Myrtle Avenue, a native of Daytona Beach and a lifelong resident of Volusia County, died Friday in Orlando following a short illness.
Mr. Collins graduated from Spruce Creek High School. He was a member of Edgewater First Baptist Church. He was employed by Melanson Masonry and was a former manager for Dustin's Bar-B-Q Restaurant, Edgewater.

HOLLY HILL -- Suzanne Alta Ehrhardt, 79, of LPGA Boulevard, who retired as a Real Estate broker, died Wednesday at Bishop's Glen.
Born in Sandusky, Ohio, Mrs. Ehrhardt came here in 1968 from Raleigh, N.C. She was a member of Holy Child Episcopal Church. She enjoyed bridge, ceramics and oil painting.

Mrs. Everett, a homemaker, was born in Dupage, Ill., and moved to this area from Yorkville, Ill. She enjoyed restoring antiques.

ORMOND BEACH -- Harry M. Grandon, 88, of Park Place, who retired in 1979 after 43 years of service as a laboratory technician with Union Carbide, South Charleston, W.Va., died Saturday at home.
Mr. Grandon, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Durbin, Pa., and moved here in 1992 from St. Albans, W.Va. He was a member of Riverbend Community Church where he was a was a volunteer in the kitchen. He also volunteered in the library at Tomoka Elementary School for 10 years and was an ice skating instructor. He was a graduate of Eldorado Junior College, Eldorado, Ark. He was a fan of the West Virginia University Mountaineers and stock car racing having worked as an usher for the Daytona International Speedway for 20 years.
Survivors include a son, Harry II, Morgantown, W.Va.; two daughters, Sue Barratta, Ormond Beach, and Nancy Phelan, Port Orange; a brother, Reymann, Eldorado; a sister, Louise Malone, Culloden, W.Va.; and two grandchildren. Born in Memphis, Tenn., Mr. Hughes moved here in 2001 from Valdosta, Ga. He was a member of Ridgewood Church of God.

Mrs. Lovett-Kasow was born in Inverness, and came here in 1983 from Dunnellon. She was a graduate of Palm Coast High School where she was a valedictorian. She enjoyed saltwater fly-fishing.
