Charles M. Gail
Charles M. Gail, 9/6/1926 - 6/20/2008 is the eldest of seven children of Charles B. and Frances D. (Theil) Gail. He was born in Leavenworth, Kansas at Saint John’s Hospital on Labor Day which was Sept. 6, 1926. Charles went to primary school at St. Joseph Carmelite School and secondary school at Maur Hill in Atchison, KS and Immaculata High School in Leavenworth, KS. In June of 1944, Charles joined the United States Navy. He was sent to the Navy Hospital in Great Lakes, IL where he received a crash course in field medicine and first aid. In October of 1944, he was sent to California and subsequently to the Pacific. He spent the latter part of 1944 and all of 1945 on the islands of Tinian, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. After the war, he arrived back in the United States on Christmas Eve of 1945 on a long leave. After his leave, Charles was sent to China where he served aboard the USS Repose and with the 6th Marine Division. He returned to the States in September of 1947 and was discharged from the military. Charles enrolled in the University of Kansas and after a very short stint at KU he was hired to work on the Navy Petroleum Reserve #4 in Point Barrow, Alaska where he began his lifelong career in the petroleum industry. Charles worked in Alaska from 1948 until 1951. He started as a roughneck and worked his way up to a driller. In August of 1951, he decided he needed more education. He went to the Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, CA where he studied Petroleum Technology. After completing his studies, he was hired by Gulf Oil Corporation and sent to Venezuela as a mud engineer. Subsequently, he was put in a drilling training program and finished as a drilling supervisor. He stayed in Venezuela for roughly six years where he worked for Gulf, Exxon, and then Gulf again. He was involved in a joint operation with Gulf and Texaco. Charles was hired by Texaco in 1960 and sent to Columbia as a drilling supervisor. After a short time in Columbia, Charles met and married Aceneth Monrique. They were married for 46 years until she lost a 16 year battle with cancer in February of 2006. Throughout their married lives they visited Latin America, and West and North Africa, and all of Europe. Charles studied specialized petroleum courses over the last 25 years. He studied at Louisiana State University, the University of Oklahoma and the Halliburton Research Lab in Duncan, OK. Charles was considered an expert in both on and off shore drilling and he was called on to assist with emergency situations in West Africa, the North Sea and many Latin American countries. He was also loaned to foreign governments to assist in emergencies. Charles is a 60 year member of the Knights of Columbus. He has also belonged to the Elks, Eagles and the American Legion for at least 35 years. Charles was preceded in death by his first wife, Aceneth, his parents, his brother Peter, his sister Dr. Martha Gail Kitson, and his nephew Donald “Butch” Aaron. He is survived by his current wife, Yeny, his sisters Mary Ann Gail, Virg inia Klasinski, Charlotte Aaron, and his brother Anthony “Tony” Gail and nine nieces and seven nephews. Visitation with a prayer service was held at Van Orsdel Coral Gables. Funeral Mass was held at the Church of the Little Flower. Burial in Leavenworth, KS. Carol Magidson
Carol Magidson, 62 of Coral Gables, passed away June 23. Beloved wife of the David L. Magidson for 37 years, cherished daughter of Anita Bickford of Chevy Chase, MD, loving mother of Rebecca (Matthew) Crawford of Miami & Ben Magidson of Miami, dear sister of Brad (Linda) Bickford, Washington, D.C., adored aunt of 7. Carol taught generations of students at Sylvania Heights Elementary School in West Miami for 35 years, teaching 1st -5th grades. She was an active member of Temple Judea of Coral Gables for over 30 years and was Chairperson of the Chai Society & other temple committees. Carol grew up in Washington, D.C. and attended and graduated from the University of Miami. For those who would like to make a donation, please donate to Temple Judea in memory of Carol Magidson for those in need of medical insurance. Richard Emery
APRIL 11, 1933 -- JULY 18, 2003
SOUTH DAYTONA -- Richard John Emery, 70, of Little Pine Drive, a resident since 1959, died July 18 at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lake City.
Mr. Emery, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and moved here from New York. He enjoyed movies and baseball.
Survivors include his wife of five years, Patricia; two sons, Steve Kling, South Daytona, and Joseph Fagan, Ormond Beach; two daughters, Tracey Suntich and Christine Fagan, both of Ormond Beach; and eight grandchildren. Veterans Cremation and Burial, Clearwater, is in charge.

Emma Hutson
APRIL 26, 1923 -- JULY 27, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- Emma Sue Hutson, 80, of South Atlantic Avenue, a former professor at Murray State University, Murray, Ky., died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Ms. Hutson was born in Palmersville, Tenn., and moved here in 1982 from Murray. She was a member of the Museum of Arts and Sciences, Daytona Beach, and was a Sunday School teacher at First Christian Church, Murray. She was a public speaker in Kentucky and enjoyed travel.
Survivors include a son, Dan II, Highland Beach; a daughter, Ada Selwitz, Lexington, Ky.; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Calloway County Public Library, 710 Main St., Murray, KY 42071. Ormond Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

James Johnson
NOV. 11, 1915 -- JULY 29, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- James Johnson, 87, of Atlantic Avenue, who retired as an engineer for the U.S. government, Washington, D.C., died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Johnson, an Army veteran of World War II, earning a Purple Heart, was born in Washington, D.C., and moved here in 1971 from Arlington, Va. He was a member of the Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Halifax River Yacht Club. He earned a degree from George Washington University. Mr. Johnson enjoyed playing tennis.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Harriet; two daughters, Bonnie LaMay, Palm Coast, and Jeralyn Garber, Fairfax, Va.; his twin brother, George, Port Orange; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 605 Eighth St., Holly Hill, FL 32117. National Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Harry Keown
MAY 3, 1915 -- JULY 29, 2003
FLAGLER BEACH -- Harry B. Keown, 88, of South State Road A1A, who retired in 1977 from General Electric as a tool and dye maker, died Tuesday at home.
Mr. Keown, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Evansville, Ind. He moved here in 1978 from Louisville, Ky. He was a member of Flagler Beach United Methodist Church. An avid reader, he also enjoyed stained glass, woodworking and walks on the beach.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Delma; a son, John, Flagler Beach; two daughters, Marsha Vaughn, Lakeland, and Karen Weston, Orlando; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Philip Malouin
JAN. 1, 1920 -- JULY 28, 2003
DEBARY -- Philip J. Malouin, 83, of Clairmont Avenue, a former fireman for the Worcester Pressed Steel Co., Mass., died Monday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Born in Canada, Mr. Malouin moved to this area in 1980 from Worcester, Mass. An Army veteran of World War II, he received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, DeBary. He enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son, Philip Jr., West Warwick, R.I.; four daughters, Ruth Melcher and Shirley Bashaw, both of DeBary, Linda Mason, Charlton, Mass., and Brenda Thorn, Oakland, Md.; eight brothers, Edgar, DeLand, Omar, Blanco, Texas, and Lawrence, Joseph, Roger, Rene, Albert and Gerard, all of Massachusetts; four sisters, Delisca Malouin, Theresa Miller, Julliet Bennett, and Madeline Julias, all of Massachusetts; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Altman-Long is in charge.

Geraldine McMillion
OCT. 6, 1915 -- JULY 28, 2003
PALM COAST -- Geraldine Iva McMillion, 87, of Palm Coast Parkway, a retired retail clerk, died Monday at Grand Oaks Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Mannington, W.Va., Mrs. McMillion moved to this area in 1979 from Maryland. She enjoyed sewing and knitting.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Carl; and five sisters, Mary Jo McGough, Charlotte Glover, Marquita Stewart, Judith Jackson and Frances Sperry. Elizabeth Paraso
MARCH 25, 1954 -- JULY 7, 2003
FLAGLER BEACH -- Elizabeth A. Paraso, 55, of North Ocean Shore Boulevard, a former convenience store clerk, died July 7 at home.
Mrs. Paraso was born in Scotland and moved to this area six years ago from Okeechobee.
Survivors include her husband of 10 years, William. Coastal Cremation, Palm Coast, is in charge.

Frank Perry
APRIL 8, 1935 -- JULY 28, 2003
PORT ORANGE -- Frank B. Perry, 68, of Blue Sky Drive, a part-time employee at Crane Lakes Country Club Pro Shop, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Perry, an Army veteran, moved to this area in 1997 from his native Massena, N.Y. He also was a former tavern owner. He enjoyed golf.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy Glass, Albuquerque, N.M., and Karen Brown, Marcy, N.Y.; a brother, Rocco, Port Orange; three sisters, Mary Besaw, Port Orange, Ann Phipps, Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Loretta Lozipone, Massena; two grandchildren; and a stepgranddaughter. Jeannette Robertson
OCT. 1, 1910 -- JULY 28, 2003
DELAND -- Jeannette H. Robertson, 92, of Chipola Avenue, a resident since 1970, died Monday at Woodland Terrace.
Mrs. Robertson was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and moved here from Roosevelt, N.Y. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women. She was an avid bingo player.
Survivors include a son, Alan, East Northport, N.Y.; two sisters, Muriel Phillips, Deltona, and Dorris Allyn, Freeport, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Estella Simpson
AUG. 17, 1911 -- JULY 28, 2003
HASTINGS -- Estella R. Simpson, 91, of Hastings, the mother of Daytona Beach resident Clarice Coleman, died Monday at Flagler Hospital, St. Augustine.
Mrs. Simpson, who owned and operated Simpson's Grocery Store for 54 years in Hastings, was born in Arabi, Ga., and was a frequent visitor to Daytona Beach. She was a member of Mount Tabor Baptist Church, Palatka. Mrs. Simpson enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening and singing.
Additional survivors include a son, Willie, Hastings; two daughters, Sarah Dixon, Hastings, and Ruth James, Palatka; and 15 grandchildren. Gainous, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Daniel Sykes
MARCH 20, 1957 -- JULY 27, 2003
ORMOND BEACH -- Daniel "Dan" Sykes, 46, of Tracy Street, an employee for Chip's Dozer Service, died Sunday at home.
Mr. Sykes was born in West Palm Beach and moved to this area in 1969 from Valley Stream, N.Y. He enjoyed motorcycles and snakes.
Survivors include a son, Travis, Ormond Beach, and two sisters, Donna Jones, Ormond Beach, and Diane Sykes, Raleigh, N.C. Memorial donations may be made to a trust account in the name of Travis Sykes, co Cheryl Goerke, Wachovia Bank, 1100 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Jayprakash Trivedi
OCT. 14, 1956 -- JULY 28, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH -- Jayprakash Trivedi, 46, of Carolina Lake Drive, who formerly owned Budget Inn, Ormond Beach, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center.
Born in Tanga, Tanzania, Mr. Trivedi moved to this area in 1995 from Brunswick, Ga. He was a member of Hindu Society of America and Gujarati Samaj, a religious congregation in Tanzania. He earned a bachelor's degree from Gujarat University in India. He enjoyed sports, music and reading.
Survivors include his wife, Jyotibala; a son, Harshid, Daytona Beach; his parents, Jayalaxmi and Jayvantrai, India; a brother, Girish, Atlanta; and two sisters, Jivantika Rawal, Kenya, and Gita Dave, Zambia.
