Joe Kelley
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. -- Joe M. Kelley, 76, a former longtime Ormond Beach resident, died Sunday at home.
Mr. Kelley, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers No. 756, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, a son, Joe, and a daughter, Beverly Egan, both of Clarksville; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Sykes Funeral Home, Clarksville, is in charge.

Agnes Kohler
PALM COAST -- Agnes Kohler, 88, of Palm Coast Parkway, a resident since 1994, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital Flagler.
Mrs. Kohler, a homemaker, was born in Montreal, and moved here from New York. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Edward Kavanaugh, Larchmont, N.Y.; a daughter, Carol Minotti, Palm Coast; three brothers, Joseph and Barney McEwan, both of the Bronx, N.Y., and Fred McEwan, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Palm Coast Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Nelson
DELAND -- Robert Charles "Chuck" Nelson, 60, of Highland Avenue, a writer for the DeLand Sun News and also a local novelist, died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Nelson, a Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, was born in Tarentum, Pa., and moved to this area in 1955. He also was a Naval hospital corpsman. He earned his bachelor's degree from Stetson University. He enjoyed community theater and traveling.
Survivors include two brothers, David, DeLand, and John, St. Paul, Minn.; a sister, Myrna Bedenbaugh, DeLand; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Robert Sauer
DAYTONA BEACH -- Robert Sauer, 78, of Manhattan Avenue, who retired in 1972 from the State Revenue Department of Florida, died Wednesday at Indigo Manor.
Mr. Sauer, a Navy veteran retiring in 1960 as a recruiter and chief weapons operator, was born in Hackensack, N.J., and came here in 1958 from Westerly, R.I. He was a charter member of the Touchdown Club where he served as the coach for two years. He also was a past president of the Kiwanis, Holly Hill. He enjoyed golf and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Kathleen. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Daytona Funeral Home is in charge.

Vera Seleck
DELAND -- Vera Lily Seleck, 76, of Chipola Avenue, a native of Newfoundland, Canada, died Wednesday at Woodland Terrace.
Mrs. Seleck, a homemaker, was born in Newfoundland and moved to this area this year from Crystal River, Fla.
Survivors include a son, Craig, DeLand; and a daughter, Lynn Stark, Minnetonka, Minn. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Isaiah Smith
DAYTONA BEACH -- Isaiah Lanier Smith, 68, of Big Ben Drive, a retired assistant supervisor in the maintenance department of Daytona Beach Community College, died Thursday at Riverview Assistant Living Facility, Port Orange.
Mr. Smith, an Army veteran of the Korean War, moved to this area in 1972 from his birthplace, Waycross, Ga. He enjoyed boxing and football.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; two sons, Willie Butts, Daytona Beach, and Isaiah Smith, Waycross; four daughters, Lucretia Brown and Sophia Williams, both of Daytona Beach, and Marcia and Mamie Smith, both of Waycross; his mother, Mable Cushnie, Daytona Beach; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Gainous is in charge.

Cecil Yeater
DAYTONA BEACH -- Cecil E. Yeater, 76, of South Seneca Boulevard, the retired owner of several real estate properties including apartment buildings and bowling alleys, died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Yeater, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Elkhart, Ind., and moved to this area in 1975 from Indiana. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth, Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Linda Kleinhenn, Noblesville, Ind.; a brother, Ron, Mount Royal, N.J.; two sisters, Peggy Prugh and Barbara Elliott, Elkhart; six grandchildren; and Phyllis Williams, Daytona Beach, who provided for his care. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Frances Amatucci
ORMOND BEACH -- Frances S. Amatucci, 77, of Dawn Drive, a retired legal secretary, died Tuesday at home.
Mrs. Amatucci was born in Glasgow, Ky., and moved to this area in 1957 from Kentucky. She enjoyed animals, basketball, water-skiing and fishing.
Survivors include a brother, Roy Squires, Orlando; and a niece, Laura Squires, Ormond Beach, who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to Halifax Humane Society Inc., P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035; West Volusia Humane Society, P.O. Box 2321, DeLand, FL 32721; or Delta Rescue, P.O. Box 9, Glendale, CA 91209. Ormond Funeral Home is in charge.

Bessie Braden
GARDEN CITY, Ga. -- Bessie Miles Braden, 72, of Garden City, formerly of Volusia County, died Sunday at Candler Hospital.
Mrs. Braden, a retired sales clerk, was born in Tattnall County, Ga., and had lived in most parts of Volusia County. She was a member of First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach.
Survivors include a son, Kenneth Saturday, Oak Hill; a daughter, Diane Marsh, Macclenny; four sisters, Loree Lewis, Savannah, Ga., Jane Rush, Cocoa, Claudine Rhiner, Rincon, Ga., and Sybil Thrift, Cobbtown, Ga.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Southeast Volusia Unit, P.O. Box 266, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32170. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Mary Lou Brown
ORANGE CITY -- Mary Lou Brown, 84, of South Pine Avenue, a retired fiberglass cutter for Cobia Boats, Sanford, died Tuesday at Mariner Health of DeLand.
Mrs. Brown, born in Laurens County, Ga., moved to Central Florida in 1939 from McRae, Ga. She enjoyed sewing.
Survivors include two sons, Cleveland Jr., Bonifay, and J.B., Hayesville, N.C.; three daughters, Marietta Nodtvedt, DeBary, Helen Chambliss, Orange City, and Vicki McCardle, Calhoun, Ga.; two sisters, Pearl Ruckes, Jacksonville, and Martha Brooks, LaGrange, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Baldauff is in charge.

Michael Brown
PONCE INLET -- Michael Joseph Brown, 30, of South Atlantic Avenue, an automobile mechanic, died May 29 at home. An autopsy is pending.
Mr. Brown moved to this area in 1999 from Pittsburgh, his birthplace. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his father, Robert. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Elizabeth Cook
DELAND -- Elizabeth C. Cook, 93, of South Florida Avenue, a resident since 1981, died Friday at her son's home in DeBary.
Mrs. Cook, a homemaker, was born in Warren, Ohio, and moved to this area in 1981 from Geneva, Ohio. She graduated from Lake Erie College. She was a charter member of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, John, DeBary; a sister, Virginia Taylor, DeLand; and four grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Arthur Gauthier
DELTONA -- Arthur H. Gauthier, 85, of Scottville Avenue, who retired after 35 years with General Motors in Bristol, Conn., died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mr. Gauthier, an Army veteran of World War II who served as an aerial gunner, airplane mechanic and payroll clerk, was born in Fall River, Mass. He moved to this area in 1995 from Bristol. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both in Bristol. He enjoyed bowling.
Survivors include two sons, Christopher, Orange City, and Joseph, Seaside, Calif.; a daughter, Theresa McGlinchey, Deltona; nine grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Herman Grossman
DAYTONA BEACH -- Herman J. Grossman, 71, of Colfax Drive, a retired machinist for Florida East Coast Railway, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center.
Mr. Grossman, an Army veteran of World War II, came here in 1944 from Paterson, N.J., his birthplace. He was a former Daytona Beach police officer for 14 years. He was a member of Moose and Elks lodges and the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed dancing.
Survivors include a son, Harry, St. Petersburg; two daughters, Donna Pastorius, Cherry Point, N.C., and Sandra Taylor, Virginia; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Peter Hallin
DELTONA -- Peter R. Hallin, 84, of Haverhill Drive, a retired vice president of research and development for Croft Metals, McComb, Miss., died Monday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mr. Hallin was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and came here in 1980 from McComb. He was a member of the McComb Rotary Club and the Vikings Club, Jamestown, N.Y. He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Helen; a son, William Paquin, Deltona; two daughters, Jackie Anderson, Tuckerton, N.J., and Deborah Evans, Southport, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, West Volusia Unit, 218-A E. New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32724. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Verla Henderson
PALM COAST -- Verla B. Henderson, 93, of Cedardale Court, a former textile pattern maker, died Monday at home.
Mrs. Henderson was born in South Carolina and moved to this area six years ago from Burlington, N.C.
Survivors include two sons, David, Pam Coast, and Michael, Las Vegas; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare of Memorial Hospitals, 785 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 5, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Coastal Cremation is in charge.
