PALM COAST -- William Howard Sanders, 80, of Emerson Drive, a resident since 2001, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.
Mr. Sanders, a former truck driver, moved here from his native Hartford, Conn. He was a member of Tolland (Conn.) Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Surber, Palm Coast; and a brother, Bob, Glastonbury, Conn. Ormond Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, is in charge.
John Tidmarsh
DELAND -- John Tidmarsh, 87, of North McDonald Avenue, a former salesman for New York Life Insurance, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Mr. Tidmarsh moved here in 1978 from Milwaukee, his birthplace. A veteran of World War II, he retired in 1954 as a Navy aviation commander. He also was a former vice president of Hennecke Steel. He was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and volunteered with the Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial Auxiliary. He enjoyed fishing, golf and other sports.
Survivors include a son, Jon, Lake Helen; a daughter, Jan Stevens, Deltona; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. National Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.
Floyd Underhill
PALM COAST -- Floyd Philip Underhill, 79, of Courtney Place, who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., died Monday at home.
Mr. Underhill, an investigator for an insurance company, moved to this area six years ago from Bell, Fla. A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served in the Army, Navy and Air Force. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, and was a major in the Fort Lauderdale Police Reserve for 19 years. He enjoyed gardening and traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Alice; a son, Floyd, Bell; three daughters, Diane Underhill, Coconut Creek, Lorene White, Bell, and Nancy Bingham, Lebanon, Tenn.; three sisters, Carol McAteer, Jupiter, Gladys Meritt, Brooklyn, and Marilyn Wallace, Chicago; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Linda Siegmeister
Linda Siegmeister, passed away Dec. 11 at home with her beloved husband, Richard and her mother, Lucille Bivens by her side. She was born in Coral Gables on August 5, 1941. Linda was a fifth generation Floridian on her mother’s side, the Williams family. She was the daughter of the late Captain O.B. Bivens, a member of the Aviation Hall of Fame and Lucille Bivens. Linda was a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology. She was on the Board of Directors of Easter Seals Miami-Dade and an officer and director of the Gilded Lilies Auxiliary to Easter Seals. She was employed by Eastern Airlines for 24 1/2 years, reaching the level of manager of engine overhaul, the first woman to do so. Seeking new challenges, she was then employed as production and planning manager at Pacific Airomotive in Los Angeles, California. She returned to Florida and prior to the failure of her health was the president and chief operating officer of Aviation Accessory & Instrument Overhaul Corporation, an FAA licensed repair station. Linda later developed an interest in flower shows and became a member of the Coral Gables Garden Club, where she became its program director and a member of the Greater Miami Flower Shows. She also enrolled in classes and achieved the status of National Flower Show Judge. In spite of her long term fight with cancer since 1996, her courage, stamina, and internal fortitude provided inspiration for her family, many friends and others with whom she came in contact as a result of her many activities. She was generous with her time and effort to her family, friends, and organizations for which among other things she will be remembered. Her love for God and zest for life was contagious. She was a beautiful person both inside and out and always had a smile and good cheer for all with whom she came in contact. She will be greatly missed by all who came to know her. Survivors include her husband, Richard Siegmeister; mother, Lucille Bivens; brother, William Bivens (Roseanne) and nine nieces and nephews and their children. Jonathan Scanlon Simone
Jonathan Scanlon Simone, passed away peacefully on Nov. 25, he was 44 years old. Jon grew up in the Miami area and went to school in Coral Gables. Jon was a gifted auto mechanic and practiced the trade all of his adult life. He was also an avid fisherman and spent many happy days fishing Biscayne Bay. Most of all Jon was a great friend, brother and son with a heart as big as the ocean he liked to fish in. May the Good Lord receive his soul in heaven where the fishing is always good!
Jeannie G. Holland
Jeannie Grubbs Holland, died on May 10, of complication of Parkinson’s disease. She is survived by her husband, George Holland, and sister, Diane Grubbs, of Tallahassee, as well as her children, Carter Shaw Miller II of San Pedro, California, Melanie Miller of Orlando, Sallie Manford and her husband Michael of Perth, Australia, and Chris Miller and his wife Jennifer of Del Mar, California. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carole Cox of Stockton, California, eight grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. Jeannie was born in Miami, on May 14, 1939, and graduated from Coral Gables High before attending Florida State University. After her children were grown, she went back to school and received a B.A. in Urban Planning and Political Science from Cal Poly Pomona. Jeannie was a remarkable woman who loved and taught mountain climbing in California, but enjoyed hiking through Florida’s wilderness equally as well. After managing her Parkinson’s with courage, grace and dignity for over 20 years, her body finally succumbed to the disease; her spirit never did.
Esther Angeli
DELTONA - Esther J. Masteller Angeli, 71, of Alcan Avenue, a retired machine operator for a manufacturing company, died Saturday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.
Mrs. Angeli was born in Jenningsville, Pa., and came here in 1990 from Titusville. She was a member of Barnett Memorial United Methodist Church, Enterprise, and the local Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) club. She enjoyed crocheting, plastic canvas needlework and all kinds of crafts.
Survivors include her husband, Geno; a son, James Burkhart Jr., Torrington, Conn.; two daughters, Ileane Elliotte, Deltona, and Ruth Teske, Southington, Conn.; a brother, Charles Masteller, and two sisters, Lulu Horrex and Gladys Totoris, all of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. DELTONA - Anna Gertrude Fenner, 75, of Wing Terrace, a native of Czechoslovakia, died Friday at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford.
Mrs. Fenner, a homemaker, came here in 1988 from Lindley, N.Y.

Clarence Gardiner
DELTONA - Clarence William Gardiner, 95, of North Page Drive, retired general manager and chief executive officer for the Keebler Biscuit Co., Omaha and Philadelphia, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mr. Gardiner was born in Brewster, Neb., and came here in 1968 from Philadelphia. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, American Association of Retired Persons, the Mixed Bowling League of Deltona and the Elks Lodge. He organized and chartered the first Rotary Club in Deltona where he had perfect attendance for more than 30 years.
Survivors include a foster daughter, Evelyn Johnson, New Port Richey; and a nephew, Frank Dragoun, Deltona, who provided for his care. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.
Alzene Grosse
PORT ORANGE - Alzene C. Grosse, 94, of Taylor Avenue, a former nurse, died June 27 at home.
Ms. Grosse was born in Ellerslie, Md., and came here 45 years ago from the Midwest. She was a member of the Azalea Garden Club, Daytona Beach, and the city of Daytona Beach Recreation Center.
Survivors include her caretaker, Donald Byrnes, Port Orange, who provided for her needs. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.
Merl Harris
PORT ORANGE - Merl S. (Dugie) Harris, 63, of Swallow Tail Drive, a general contractor, died Thursday in Newark Valley, N.Y., at the home of a friend.
Mr. Harris, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, was born in Endicott, N.Y., and came here more than 20 years ago from Newark Valley. He attended Florida State University and was a member of the Elks and the American Legion.
Survivors include a son, J. Mark; two daughters, Susan Dorsey and Mandee Brown; two stepsons, John Homa, Newark Valley, and Michael Homa, Apalachin, N.Y.; six grandchildren; and his friend, Phyllis Harris, Newark Valley, who provided for his care. Marjorie Keough
DAYTONA BEACH - Marjorie Ann Keough, 78, of Mitchell Place, a manager for Burdines and Ivey's department stores in Fort Lauderdale and Daytona Beach before her retirement, died Thursday at home.
Mrs. Keough was born in Chicago and came here in 1980 from Fort Lauderdale. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Daytona Beach, was an avid golfer and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, Richard, Ormond Beach, and Hugh, Daytona Beach; three daughters, Diane Wilson, Sante Fe, N.M., Carol Phillips, St. Petersburg, and Melinda Kwaterski, Baileys Harbour, Wis.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Catherine Randel
DELAND - Catherine (Kitty) Crusius Randel, 73, of North Amelia Avenue, an accounting clerk for the clerk of court, Volusia County, before her retirement, died Thursday at home.
Mrs. Randel was born in Daytona Beach and came here in 1969 from Fort Pierce. She also was former employee for DeLand and Deltona Memorial Gardens. She enjoyed reading and cooking.
Survivors include four sons, Stephen Walker and Richard Randel, both of DeLand, Michael Randel, Tiger, Ga., and David Randel, Winston, Ga.; two daughters, Carole Wheaton, DeLand, and Shirely Walker, Orange City; a brother, Milton Crusius, Arlington, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Annie Robinson
DAYTONA BEACH - Annie Mae Robinson, 87, of South Street, a retired domestic housekeeper, died Saturday at home.
Mrs. Robinson was born in Patterson, Ga., and came here 70 years ago from her birthplace. She was a member of Mount Bethel Baptist Institutional Church and served on the Deaconess Board, Missionary Board, was Tribe Leader of Asher and Mother of the Church. She also was a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and enjoyed cooking, crocheting and fishing.
Survivors include 11 sons, Leroy, Benjamin, Stanley, George, Ralph, Realise, Richard and Colden, all of Daytona Beach, and Gilbert, James and Leon, all of Miami; five daughters, Margaret Lowe, Lucille Robinson, Maxine Washington and Annie Watson, all of Daytona Beach, and Clifford Gearing, Miami; 160 grandchildren; and 300 great-grandchildren. June Rotker
ALTAMONTE SPRINGS - June H. Rotker, 73, of Kensington Park, a public relations employee for Pan American Airways before her retirement, died Friday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.
Miss Rotker, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and came her in 1994 from Marina Del Ray, Calif. Following her retirement from Pan American, she owned and operated three gift shops in Los Angeles. She enjoyed traveling and gourmet food.
Survivors include her mother, Bertha Rotker, Deltona; three brothers, Walter, Whitestone, N.Y., Martin, Deltona, and Kenneth, Riverside, Calif.; and a sister, Sheila Hill, Boca Raton. Gary VanAuken
PALM COAST - Gary H. VanAuken, 43, of Westmoreland Drive, a technical assistant in the film/video department for Keiser College, Daytona Beach, died Friday at Memorial Hospital-Flagler, Bunnell.
Mr. VanAuken was born in Queens, N.Y., and came here in 1995 from South Daytona. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Palm Coast, and was a Port Orange Recreation Little League baseball and basketball coach and Police Athletic League (PAL) basketball coach for both Volusia and Flagler counties. He earned an associate's degree in film/video production from Phillips College and Keiser College.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ellen; three sons, Gary Jr., David and Andrew, all of Palm Coast; his parents, Robert and Theresa VanAuken, Port Orange; two brothers, Robert Jr., Port Orange, and Terance, Ormond Beach; two sisters, Barbara DiPersia, Closter, N.J., and Robin Gainor, Ponce Inlet. Ruth D. Myers
Ruth Dowell Myers, a resident of Coral Gables and the Pinecrest area for 60 years passed away May 13 at age 86. Raised in Crookston and St. Paul, Minnesota, she graduated from the University of Minnesota and later earned a master’s degree from Florida International University. She taught at Kinloch Park Junior High and at Miami Killian Senior High where she touched many young people’s lives. Ruth was active in many civic organizations in Miami-Dade, including the Junior League, the Miami Yacht Club, the University of Miami Women’s Guild, and the Kiwanis Club. She had the distinction of serving on the board of Kiwanis Club of Coral Gables, and in 2004, at age 81, was elected their first woman president. But her favorite role was serving as Kiwanis Key Club Advisor to Coral Gables High School. Ruth also was a passionate patron of the arts who was an early supporter of Beaux Arts, Friends of the Arts, the Miami Opera, the Miami Ballet, and the New World Symphony. Horticulture was also a major interest for Ruth. In later years, she was happily engaged in supervising the Dowell family farm in Nevada, Iowa, and over her many decades of Miami residence she acquired a deep love for the unique Florida landscape. In recent years, Ruth was a Fellow and volunteered at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, which she described as her garden refuge after Hurricane Andrew prompted her move from the family’s long-time Pinecrest residence to the Biltmore II condominium in Coral Gables. Ruth is survived by her three devoted children Dowell (Susan Tuemmler), Hannah (Arthur Chan), daughter Austin, and two grandsons, Ben and Jesse. She also is survived by her sisters Hannah Kellogg Dowell of Washington, D.C., and Margaret D. Gravatt, MD, of Portland, Oregon. A Memorial Service was held May 17 at the Coral Gables Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden.
