Elizabeth Peterson
DELAND - Elizabeth "Betty" Peterson, 78, of Hogle Avenue, who retired in 1984 as an executive secretary for American Stores, Syracuse, N.Y., died Sunday at Alliance Health Care Center.
Mrs. Peterson moved to this area in 1989 from her native Syracuse. A former volunteer at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City, she also enjoyed playing golf, bowling, arts and crafts, and making dolls.
Survivors include her husband of 4 years, Kenneth; a daughter, Holly Gillan, Altamonte Springs; a brother, Joseph Sargis, Florida; two grandsons; and eight great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Clinton Simpson
EDGEWATER - Clinton C. Simpson, 69, of India Palm Drive, the retired owner of Clinton Simpson Drywall Construction Co., Stroudsburg, Pa., died Sunday at home.
Mr. Simpson was born in Swiftwater, Pa., and moved to this area in 1987 from Stroudsburg.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a son, Clinton Jr., Stroudsburg; two daughters, Bonnie Colabaugh, Saylorsburg, Pa., and Debra Smith, Edgewater; three brothers, Harry, East Stroudsburg, Clifford, Tannersville, Pa., and Raymond, Stroudsburg; a sister, Mary Wells, Swiftwater; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.

Richard Singleton
DELAND - Richard A. Singelton, 79, of Hillside Drive, a retired union carpenter, died Sunday at Memorial Hospital-West Volusia.
Mr. Singleton, a Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, was born in Lowell, Mass., and moved to this area in 1979 from Tyngsboro, Mass. He also retired from the Tyngsboro Fire Department, where he was captain. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Paisley, where he was a deacon, the Union Carpenters No. 49, Lowell, where was a past president, and the American Legion, Tyngsboro, where he was a past commander.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Ruth; two sons, Richard and Donald, both of Tyngsboro; two daughters, Joyce Bell, Smithport, Pa., and Dorothy Lowe, Nashwood, N.H.; three brothers, Darrell, Eustis, George, Methuen, Mass., and Kenneth, Moultonboro, N.H.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Jane Walter
NEW SMYRNA BEACH - Jane M. Walter, 77, of Fairfax Avenue, a resident since 1972, died Monday at Fran's Elder Care.
Mrs. Walter, a homemaker, was born in Oneida, N.Y., and moved to this area from Syracuse, N.Y. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, AARP, Council on Aging, Craft Group, and the Catholic Church Women.
Survivors include Charles and Margaret Aldridge, Edgewater, who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange 32119. Baldwin Brothers Memorial is in charge.

James Becht
ORMOND BEACH -- James John Becht, 73, of Shadow Lakes Boulevard, a Red Lobster restaurant manager, died Friday at Memorial Hospital-Ormond Beach.
Mr. Becht, a Marine Corps veteran, was born in St. Louis and came to this area in 1974 from Fort Myers. He also worked for Riviera Country Club for 20 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Gentile, Trumbull, Conn.; a stepson, Don Buchignani, Memphis, Tenn.; and two grandchildren. Ormond Funeral Home is in charge.

Peter de la Paz
HOLLY HILL -- Peter "Repeat Pete" de la Paz, 42, of Ridgewood Avenue, a resident since 1979, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, from injuries sustained Oct. 31 after being hit by a car on Ridgewood Avenue.
Mr. de la Paz, a native of New York City, came to this area from Germany.
Survivors include a brother, Dennis; and two sisters, Nancy and Annette de la Paz, and a grandmother, Irmgard Cassens, all of Germany. Cardwell & Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.

Mabel Gilbert
DELTONA -- Mabel S. Gilbert, 95, of Elkcam Boulevard, a former telephone operator for New York Bell for 22 years, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mrs. Gilbert was born in Charleston, S.C., and moved to this area in 1989 from Teaneck, N.J. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and crocheting.
Survivors include two sons, James, Deltona, and William, Hackensack, N.J.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

William Hippenstiel
ORMOND BEACH -- William Hippenstiel, 93, of North Nova Road, a retired toolmaker in the automotive industry, died Monday at Memorial Hospital-Ormond Beach.
Mr. Hippenstiel was born in Germany and moved to this area in 1960 from Edmeston, N.Y.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Gesick, Chico, Calif., and Virginia Smith, Lompoc, Calif.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Barbara Hoffman
DAYTONA BEACH -- Barbara P. Hoffman, 77, of Jacaranda Avenue, a resident since 1979, died Monday at home.
Mrs. Hoffman, a homemaker, was born in Meriden, Conn., and came here from Schenectady, N.Y. She was a member the First Presbyterian Church, First Presbyterian Bellringers, Halifax Medical Center Auxiliary, Tomoka Duplicate Bridge Club, Edison Club of Schenectady and Mount Holyoke College Alumni Association. She volunteered for the Volusia County Library and the Junior League and was a Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed world traveling, knitting and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Thomas; two sons, Thomas, Pittsburgh, and William, Clifton Park, N.Y.; two daughters, Elisabeth Hoffman, Clarksville, Md., and Debora Hoffman, Swarthmore, Pa.; a brother, William Peckham, St. Michaels, Md.; and seven grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32127. Baggett & Summers is in charge.

Madeline Kiernan
PORT ORANGE -- Madeline H. Kiernan, 72, of Sheldon Circle, a native of Trenton, N.J., died Tuesday at Mariner Health Care.
Mrs. Kiernan, a homemaker, moved to this area in 1980 from Lawrenceville, N.J. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Slackwood Volunteer Fire Co., Trenton, and a volunteer high school attendance taker.
Survivors include her husband, Patrick; a son, Danny, Roebling, N.J.; a daughter, Sharon Willever, Mercerville, N.J.; and six grandchildren. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

John Koval
TITUSVILLE -- John Daniel Koval, 86, of Cheney Highway, also a resident of Daytona Beach for the past six months, died Monday at National Health Care, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Koval, a World War II veteran who served in the Pacific Campaign, was born in Chester, Pa. He was a machinist.
Survivors include a brother, Benjamin, Haslett, Mich.; and a sister, Anne Thompson, Brookhaven, Pa. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, East Volusia Unit, 146 Orange Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Ormond Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Opal McVicker
DAYTONA BEACH -- Opal Dorothy McVicker, 84, of National Health Care Drive, a resident since 1969, died Tuesday at Alterra Clare Bridge Cottages.
Mrs. McVicker, a homemaker, was born in King William County, Va., and came to this area from New Jersey. She was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church, New Smyrna Beach. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son, James, Lancaster, Calif.; two daughters, Dolores Pinkerton, Philadelphia, and Virginia Teel, Redding, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 111 N. Frederick Ave., Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32114; or to the Ronald and Nancy Reagan Research Institute, 919 M. Marjorie Morris
DELAND -- Marjorie Morris, 75, of Manor Way, a resident since 1973, died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mrs. Morris, a homemaker, was born in Georgia and moved here from Hialeah. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2380 Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Carlos; three sons, Benjamin and Jim Booth, both of DeLand, and Gene Morris, Deltona; a sister, Conelia Robinson, Brunswick, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

George Peck Jr.
EDGEWATER -- George C. Peck Jr., 79, of Royal Palm Drive, a retired energy department accountant in Germantown, Md., died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.
Mr. Peck, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Schenectady, N.Y., and moved here in 1980 from Gaithersburg, Md. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of New Smyrna Beach and a Masonic Lodge in Schenectady.
Survivors include two sons, Michael, Edgewater, and Gary, Gastonia, N.C.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32127. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.

Esther Reeves
ORMOND BEACH -- Esther F. Reeves, 82, of Ocean Terrace, a native of Medina, N.Y., died Tuesday at home.
Mrs. Reeves, a homemaker, came to this area 14 years ago from Naples. She was a member of the Ormond Beach Moose Lodge and DeLand Country Club.
Survivors include her husband, Edward; a son, Jim, Naples; two daughters, Tere McLaughlin, Ormond Beach, and Peggy Shotton, DeLand; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Julius Shaffer
ORANGE CITY -- Julius Chester Shaffer, 93, of Clements Avenue, who retired after 28 years as a clerk for the Western Maryland Railroad, died Tuesday at home.
Mr. Shaffer, a native of Leadmine, W.Va., moved to this area 69 years ago from Elkins, W.Va. He was a 50-year master Mason, a member of Elkins Lodge 108 and the Transportation International Union Local 6699, Elkins.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Gladys; a daughter, Marettia Blackburn, Port St. Lucie; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Alma Snyder
PORT ORANGE -- Alma Snyder, 79, of New Haven Court, a native of Norwalk, Conn., died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mrs. Snyder moved to this area in 1993 from Homestead. She was a graduate of a business school in Stanford, Conn. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church. She enjoyed reading.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Gerald; two sons, Gerald, Gainesville, and John, Fort Myers; four daughters, Virginia Hill, Kapaa, Hawaii, Carol Miller, Jacksonville, Alma Pascual, Atlanta, and Eliza Morris, Port Orange; a sister, Ruth Dawson, Black Mountain, N.C.; and five grandchildren. Volusia County Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge.
