Marian Smith
DELTONA -- Marian E. Smith, 87, of Sawyer Circle, a native of Edwards, N.Y., died Thursday at home.
Mrs. Smith, a homemaker, moved to this area in 2002 from Philadelphia. She was a member of United Methodist Church, Philadelphia. She enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include a son, the Rev. Earl Smith, Deltona; a daughter, Helen Pollock, Clermont; a sister, Eleanor Austin, Edwards; eight grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

John Sterthaus
ASTOR -- John H. Sterthaus, 83, of Maple Road, who retired as a heavy equipment operator, died Thursday at home.
Mr. Sterthaus, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Homestead, and moved here 18 years ago. He was a member of St. Hubert's Church of the Forest Missions and the Elks Lodge, Daytona Beach.
Survivors include his wife, Stella; three stepsons, Ronald and William Kroll, Astor, and John Kroll, Korona; and a stepdaughter, Barbara Bryan, Alexandria, Va. Daytona Funeral Home, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Brenda Vering
DAYTONA BEACH -- Brenda E. Vering, 59, of Golfview Drive, a certified nurses assistant and phlebotomist for several area medical facilities, died Sunday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.
Mrs. Vering was born in Greensboro, N.C., and moved to this area in 1979 from Landover, Md.
Survivors include a son, David Hughes, Daytona Beach; two stepsons, Craig Vering, Topeka, Kan., and Eric Vering, Houston; three stepdaughters, Becky Vering, Daytona Beach, Michele Pappas, Overland Park, Kan., and Jennifer Fairleigh, Olathe, Kan.; four brothers, John Utz, Orange City, Joseph Utz, Hagerstown, Md., Dan Laster, Annapolis, Md., and Harold Laster, Greensboro; two sisters, Jackie Evans, Port Orange, and Connie Sorto, Greensboro; a grandchild; and 14 stepgrandchildren. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Essie Washington
DAYTONA BEACH -- Essie Lee Washington, 78, of White Court, a retired beautician and co-owner of J&W; Beauty Salon, Perrine, Fla., died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center.
Born in Douglas, Ga., Mrs. Washington moved here two years ago from Miami. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and playing bingo.
Survivors include her husband, Frank; two brothers, J.D. Green, Daytona Beach, and James Green, Miami; two sisters, Margie Paulk and Allie Lewis, both of Daytona Beach. Gainous is in charge.

Randal Zacharias
CAIRO, EGYPT -- Randal Cushman Zacharias, 41, a former resident of DeLand, died July 25 at home.
Mr. Zacharias, an Army veteran, was born in Key West. A businessman who owned a computer business, he moved to Egypt in 1998 from DeLand. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church, DeLand, and New Life Christian Fellowship.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Linda; a son, Danny, Tyler, Texas; a daughter, Jen Zacharias, Cairo; his father, Thomas, Deltona; and two brothers, Dan, DeLand, and Steve, Mackinac Island, Mich. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Bert Swanson
PALM COAST -- Bert K. Swanson, 55, of Coral Reef Court, a handyman, died Monday at Memorial Hospital-Flagler, Bunnell.
Mr. Swanson, a Navy veteran, was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and came here seven years ago from Hempstead, N.Y.
Survivors include his wife, Andy; two sons, Christopher and Kevin, both of Palm Coast; nine daughters, Laura, New Rochelle, N.Y., Cheryl, Jacksonville, Janice, New York, Kathy, the Bronx, Lisa, Hempstead, and Michelle, Jennifer, Andrea and Barbara, all of Palm Coast; his mother, Eleanor, the Bronx; three brothers, Steven, Yonkers, N.Y., George, Essex, N.J., and Joseph, the Bronx; a sister, Barbara Sherwood, New Jersey; and five grandchildren. Alderson's is in charge.

David Wills
WAHIAWA, Hawaii -- David Ray Wills, 42, of Wahiawa, formerly of Daytona Beach, died Oct. 23 at Wahiawa General Hospital.
Mr. Wills, a Navy veteran, was born in Amarillo, Texas, and moved to Daytona Beach in the 1970s from Texas. He relocated to Hawaii in the 1990s. He was a former heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Jeanette; two sons, David Jr. and Jeremy, both of Wahiawa; his father and stepmother, John and Helen Wills, Georgia; his mother and stepfather, Jane and Lawrence Wells, Florida; and two brothers, Jonny and Steven, both of Honolulu. Borthwick Mortuary, Honolulu, is in charge.

Kathleen Browning
DAYTONA BEACH -- Kathleen Browning, 83, of Fifth Street, a resident since 1951, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center.
Mrs. Browning, a homemaker, moved to this area from Philadelphia, her birthplace. She was a volunteer for Florida Health Care Ladies Auxiliary and the Humana Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son, Stephen, Daytona Beach; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, East Volusia Unit, 146 Orange Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Volusia County Cremation is in charge.

Duane Chapin
ORMOND BEACH -- Duane E. Chapin, 74, of Mimosa Trail, a retired hotel manager for the Acapulco Inn, died Thursday at home.
Mr. Chapin, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Ilion, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1972 from Orlando. He was a member of the Oceanside Rotary Club and former member of the board of directors for the Florida Hotel Association. He attended Syracuse University.
Survivors include his wife, Hope; and a brother, Bernard, Baldwinsville, N.Y. Baggett & Summers is in charge.

Nathalie Flynt
DAYTONA BEACH -- Nathalie Ivon Flynt, the two and a half week old daughter of Nathaniel and Pauline Flynt Jr., Daytona Beach, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center. An autopsy is pending.
Baby Flynt was born in Ormond Beach.
Additional survivors include three sisters, Shaques and Mercedes McMillian and Karena Robinson-Flynt, all of Daytona Beach; her paternal grandfather, Nathaniel Flynt, her paternal grandmother, Cynthia Coley, and her paternal stepgrandmother, Karen Flynt, all of Daytona Beach; her maternal grandfather, Desi Hale, Wichita Falls, Texas; her maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Mitchel, Daytona Beach; and her maternal stepgrandfather, Robert Smith, Daytona Beach. Thompson is in charge.

Alice Gaebler
ENTERPRISE -- Alice Elizabeth Gaebler, 80, of Arrowhead Trail, a retired X-ray clerk, died Thursday at home.
Mrs. Gaebler was born in Bridgehampton, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1997 from Port Richey. She was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, DeBary, served as vice-president of the Single Seniors Club, and volunteered at DeBary Elementary School. Mrs. Gaebler enjoyed bowling and painting.
Survivors include a son, Robert, Deltona; a daughter, Joy Bordt, Enterprise; two brothers, Edwin and Bruno Tiska, both of Bridgehampton; a sister, Cecilia Mounsey, East Meadow, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 2777 Enterprise Road, Orange City, FL 32763. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Robert Green
ORMOND BEACH -- Robert Green, 77, of North Kings Road, a laborer, died Tuesday at Avante, Ormond Beach.
Mr. Green, an Army veteran of World War II, moved to this area several years ago from his native Andalusia, Ala.
Survivors include a daughter, Bettye Connor, Opp, Ala., and a nephew, the Rev. Henry Walker, Daytona Beach, who provided for his care. Gainous, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Lemuel Hamblin
EDGEWATER -- Lemuel Nelson Hamblin, 81, of Yule Tree Drive, an automobile salesman, died Thursday at home.
Mr. Hamblin, an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, was born in Weathersfield, Vt., and moved to this area in 1994 from Culver City, Calif. He was a member of Edgewater United Methodist Church and Culver City Masonic Lodge F&AM.;
Survivors include his wife, Lois; two sons, David, Edgewater, and Nelson, Maytown; a daughter, Robin Williams, Edgewater; two brothers, Gordon, Apple Valley, Calif., and James, Palm Bay; a sister, Virginia Johnson, Auburn, Maine; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32119. Baldwin Brothers, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Charles Hayslett Jr.
PORT ORANGE -- Charles B. Hayslett Jr., 73, of Iron Gate Circle, a retired accountant material supervisor for Florida East Coast Railroad, New Smyrna Beach, died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Hayslett, a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, was a native of Lexington, Va., and relocated here in 1964 from Amherst, Va. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and the U.S. Landing Ship Tanks Association No. 898. He enjoyed all sports and animals.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Ethel; a brother, Karlyos, Buena Vista, Va.; and two sisters, Cecelia Hall, Verona, Va., and Lawana Hostetler, Roanoke, Va. Baggett & Summers, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Donald Hull
DAYTONA BEACH -- Donald E. Hull, 66, of Edwards Street, who retired in 1991 as a manager of a retirement center in Daytona Beach, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center.
Mr. Hull, an Army veteran, was born in Perry County, Ohio, and came here in 1982 from Bremen, Ohio. He attended Faith United Brethren Church. He enjoyed fishing and singing.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Ethel; three sons, Ronald, Columbus, Ohio, Lon, Ormond Beach, and Ivan, Blacklick, Ohio; a daughter, Virginia Stemen, Reynoldsburg, Ohio; two brothers, Virgil, Hendersonville, N.C., and David, Holly Hill; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International, P.O. Box 54, Ormond Beach, FL 32175-0054. Bellevue-Cedar Hill is in charge.

Fannie Hunter
DAYTONA BEACH -- Fannie Mae Harris Hunter, 94, of Fremont Avenue, a former pastry cook, died Wednesday at the Huntington Village.
Mrs. Hunter moved to this area as a child from her native Welburn. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. Mrs. Hunter enjoyed cooking, crafts and gardening.
Survivors include a son, Ulysses, Bainbridge, Ga.; a daughter, Altamese Hunter, Daytona Beach; two brothers, Arthur Harris, Daytona Beach, and James Harris, New York; two sisters, Louise Blanks, Daytona Beach, and Charlotte Frederick, Sanford; 22 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. R.J. Gainous is in charge.

Florence Hunter
EDGEWATER -- Florence Hunter, 79, of Rio Grande, a retired occupational therapist for the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, N.H., died Thursday at Bert Fish Medical Center.
Mrs. Hunter was born in Essex, Conn., and moved to this area in 1989 from Fremont N.H., where she was a member of Fremont Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Lincoln; a son, Doug, Exeter, R.I.; a daughter, Barbara Hunter, Oak Hill; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, P.O. Box 96305, Washington D.C. 20090-6305. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.
