Edward McCarthy
PORT ORANGE -- Edward T. McCarthy, 87, of First Street, a retired ticket agent, died Wednesday at home.
Mr. McCarthy moved to this area in 1977 from his birthplace, Albany, N.Y.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Janet; two daughters, Anne Gorzki, Latham, N.Y., and Marilyn Miller, South Daytona; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, Gift of Remembrance Headquarters, 1101 N. Lake Destiny Road, Suite 415, Maitland, FL 32751-7105. Ormond Funeral Home, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Gloria Phillips
PORT ORANGE -- Gloria Jeanne Phillips, 78, of Barhydt Avenue, who retired after several years of employment from Floyd's Thriftway, Port Orange, died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mrs. Phillips moved to this area in 1957 from her native Cleveland. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 270, Port Orange, and the Orchid Society of both Daytona Beach and DeLand.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynda Shipman and Karen Walston, and her mother, Verna Bealand, all of Port Orange; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Audrey Steed
JACKSONVILLE -- Audrey Steed, 89, a former resident of Orange City, died Wednesday at All Saints Catholic Nursing Home.
Mrs. Steed was born in Carrollton, Ga., and lived in this area from the early 1960's before moving to Jacksonville in 2000. She was a member of Orange City United Methodist Church.
No known immediate local relatives survive. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Victor Torres
PALM COAST -- Victor Torres, 93, of Palm Coast Parkway, a retired laborer in the shipping department of Harris Intertype, died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital-Flagler, Bunnell.
Mr. Torres was born in Yauco, Puerto Rico, and moved here in 1987 from Kings Park, N.Y. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Council on Aging. He was a deacon for Palm Coast Bible Church and an elder for the Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn, N.Y. A "green thumb" in the garden, he also enjoyed cooking, singing in the church choir, bowling and playing softball and baseball.
Survivors include a daughter, RoseAnna Robles, Palm Coast; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 111 N. Frederick Avenue, Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Craig, Palm Coast, is in charge.

Arthur West
ORMOND BEACH -- Arthur Lloyd West, 76, of Sea Dune Terrace, a retired firefighter in Moberly, Mo., died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mr. West, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Perry County, Ill., and moved to this area in 1997 from Moberly. He attended North Peninsula Baptist Church, the Moose and Eagles lodges, Masonic Lodge, Shriners and the Scottish Rites Club. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 5 years, Ivy; two sons, Russell and Alan, both of Moberly; a brother, Irvin, Phoenix; four sisters, Lois West, New Orleans, Mildred Shawner, Washington, and Geneva Haley and Gertrude Hale, both of Moberly; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1011 N. Lake Destiny Road No. 415, Maitland, FL 32751-7105. Woodward, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Paul Adams
GASTONIA, N.C. -- Paul Adams, 63, of Gastonia, the brother of Irene De Domenico, Edgewater, died March 22 at the Veterans Administration hospital in Salisbury, N.C.
Mr. Adams, a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War, was born in Edwardsville, Pa., and frequently visited Edgewater. He was an avid motorcyclist.
Additional survivors include two sons, Bill, High Shoals, N.C., and Nick, Gastonia; and three grandchildren. Greene Funeral Service, Gastonia, is in charge.

Hazel Bush
DEBARY -- Hazel Marie Bush, 85, of Lupine Lane, a resident since 1940, died Sunday at home.
Mrs. Bush, a retired licensed practical nurse, moved here from her native Knoxville, Tenn.
Survivors include her husband, Walter; a son, James Simmons, Hollywood, Fla.; two daughters, Gayle Villoch, DeBary, and Carolyn Ronk, Gravois Mills, Mo.; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. New Life Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Gloria Carlo
DELTONA -- Gloria V. Carlo, 101, of Sixma Road, a member of St. Clare Catholic Community, died Monday at Deltona Health Care.
Mrs. Carlo, a homemaker, was born in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. She came here in 1993 from Manhattan, N.Y.
Survivors include two sons, Gerardo, Deltona, and Alfred, Port St. Lucie; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, West Volusia Unit, 218-A E. New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32724. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Francis Chester
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES -- Francis J. Chester, 79, of Oceans West Boulevard, who retired in 1979 as a Navy captain, died Monday at Olds Hall-Good Samaritan Center, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Chester was born in East Hartford, Conn., and came here in 1994 from Virginia Beach, Va. He participated in Iwo Jima and Okinawa operations during World War II, was a boat commander at the Bikini Atoll atom bomb testing, and was a logistics assistant chief of staff in NATO operations. He earned a bachelor's degree from Trinity College and graduated from the Naval War College. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, the Halifax River Yacht Club, Retired Officers Association, Army-Navy Club and Navy League. He enjoyed music, dancing, swimming and attending Navy reunions.
Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Antoinette; two sons, Gregory, Palm Coast, and Stephen, Burke, Va.; a daughter, Mary Rushton, Washington, D.C.; two stepsons, P. Louis DeRose, Greensburg, Pa., and David DeRose, Latrobe, Pa.; a brother, Raymond, Virginia Beach; a sister, Rita Pelletier, Coventry, Conn.; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 111 N. Frederick Ave., Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Haigh-Black, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Bruce Crow
DELAND -- Bruce Crow, 68, of Pine Grove Street, a former broadcast engineer in Tortola, British Virgin Islands, died April 6 at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor.
Mr. Crow, an Army veteran who served in Korea, was born in Paisley and moved to this area in 2002 from Tortola. He attended school and lived in DeLand many years ago. He enjoyed computers.
Survivors include a son, Art Jr., Lawrence, Mass.; four daughters, Beatrice Pancoast, New Egypt, N.J., Barbara Cottrell, Lakewood, N.J., Laura Crow, Toms River, N.J., and Jessica Crow, Cranbrook, British Columbia; two sisters, Clarice Ames, DeLand, and Mary Loughlin, Orange City; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and Lucie Dye, Clearwater, who provided for his care. National Cremation Society, Largo, is in charge.

Eleanor Davis
ORMOND BEACH -- Eleanor D. Davis, 86, of Midway Avenue, a 30-year resident, died Monday at Halifax Convalescent Center, Daytona Beach.
Mrs. Davis, a homemaker, was born in Thomasville, Ga., and came here from Newark, N.J. She was a member of Allen Chapel AME Church, Daytona Beach. She enjoyed cooking, knitting and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include her husband of 64 years, James; a son, James Davis, Baxley, Ga.; three daughters, Delores Garrison, Ormond Beach, Joyce Davis, Greenbelt, Md., and Jeane Williams, Arlington, Va.; a sister, Carrie Johnson, St. Petersburg; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Allen Chapel AME Church, 580 George W. Ingram Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32120. New Life Cremation is in charge.

Norbert Doerr
HOLLY HILL -- Norbert F. Doerr, 77, of Oleander Avenue, a retired carpenter for Kennecott Copper in Baltimore, died Saturday at Regency House, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Doerr, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Baltimore and moved here 15 years ago from Maryland. He was an avid bowler and reader.
Survivors include five daughters, Donna Thomas, Sharon Dingus, Bonnie Blythe, Bridget Doerr and Noreen Walmsley, all of Baltimore; a sister, Helen McNeal, Delaware; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Daytona Funeral Home, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Esther Dunaieff
DAYTONA BEACH -- Esther Dunaieff, 87, of Bel Aire Drive, the owner of Esther's Leather Goods at the Daytona Beach Flea and Farmers Market, died Saturday at Healthcare Center of Daytona Beach.
Mrs. Dunaieff, who formerly owned Azen's Delicatessen, was born in New York City and came here in 1963 from Bayside, N.Y. She was a member of Temple Beth-El and the Jewish Women's Federation of Volusia - Flagler Counties, and was a past president of the Temple Sisterhood.
Survivors include two granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Temple Beth-El, 579 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Haigh-Black, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Betty English
DELTONA -- Betty Lou English, 70, of Vaughn Avenue, a resident since 1997, died Monday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mrs. English, a homemaker, was born in Dunns, W.Va., and moved here from Lindenhurst, Ill. She enjoyed reading.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Hubert; a son, Steven, Gurnee, Ill.; three daughters, Sharon Chilcoat, Fulton, Miss., Penny Vaughan, Ingleside, Ill.; and Valerie Ramig, Antioch, Ill.; a sister, Anna Farley, Cross Lanes, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Madalene Erb
DAYTONA BEACH -- Madalene M. Erb, 90, of South Segrave Street, a former longtime Oak Hill resident, died Sunday at Olds Hall-Good Samaritan Center.
Mrs. Erb, a retired factory production worker, was born in Mannsville, N.Y. She moved to Oak Hill in 1953 from New York. She was a member of the Oak Hill Craft Club. She enjoyed gardening, especially African violets.
Survivors include a brother, Ward Mead, Utica, N.Y.; a sister, Ruth Syfert, Oak Hill; a stepdaughter, Kathlene Corley and Edith Pooler, both of Hannibal, N.Y.; and many grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Olds Hall-Good Samaritan Center, 325 S. Segrave St., Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Settle-Wilder, Edgewater, is in charge.

Allen Garrett Jr.
SOUTH DAYTONA -- Allen B. Garrett Jr., 73, of Lantern Drive, a resident since 1957, died Monday at Huntington Village, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Garrett moved to this area from his native Fort Pierce. He was a charter member and former deacon of Central Baptist Church. He was a fan of stock car racing and Florida Gators football.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Betty; a son, Richard, Americus, Ga.; two daughters, Virginia Maddox, Tallahassee, and Pamela Garrett, West Palm Beach; a brother, Roy Garrett, Blairsville, Ga.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Baggett & Summer, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Magdalene Hanauer
ORMOND BEACH -- Magdalene Hanauer, 90, of Beechwood Drive, a resident since 1975, died Monday at Avante at Ormond Beach.
Mrs. Hanauer was born in Dusseldorf, Germany. She moved here from Utica, N.Y., where she was a presser for Oneida Knitting Mills. She was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, decorating and singing.
Survivors include five grandchildren, including Elaine Remmer, Ormond Beach, who provided for her care; and many great-grandchildren. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.
