Peter Leynse
ST. PETERSBURG -- Peter C. Leynse, 85, of St. Petersburg, an Ormond Beach resident from 1976 to 2001, died Tuesday at Edward White Hospital.
Mr. Leynse, an Army veteran, was born in Waldo, Wis. A former engineer for a diesel company, he moved to Ormond Beach from St. Petersburg. He was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Ormond Beach, and the Lions Club, and was a 32nd-degree Shriner. He was a past chaplain of the Ormond Beach Masonic Lodge and a past president of the Blind Bowling Association.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne and Ken, and a daughter, Gail Lamb, all of St. Petersburg; a brother, John, and a sister Suzan Leynse, both of Sheboygan, Wis.; and three grandchildren. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home, St. Petersburg, is in charge.

Fletcher Little
DAYTONA BEACH -- Fletcher Little, 97, of Russell Drive, who retired as a supervisor for a shipping company in Chicago, died Tuesday at Horizon Specialty Care Center.
Born in Alabama, Mr. Little moved here in 1987 from Savoy, Ill. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include Carrie Thompson, Daytona Beach, who provided for his care. Gainous is in charge.

Ethel Mathieson
LEESBURG -- Ethel Lorraine Mathieson, 76, of Leesburg, the mother of Ormond Beach Police Chief Larry Mathieson, died Saturday at home.
Mrs. Mathieson, a former commercial-loan secretary in the banking industry, was born in South Fork, Pa. She moved to Leesburg in 1985 from Miami. She was a member of St. Philip Lutheran Church, Mount Dora, and she volunteered at Florida Hospital-Waterman, Eustis, for 15 years.
Additional survivors include a son, Lee Mathieson, Georgetown, Ind.; a daughter, Sharon Mikell, Huntsville, Ala.; a sister, Mardell Remick, Mineral Point, Pa.; and nine grandchildren. Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg, is in charge.

Bertha Meyer
DELAND -- Bertha A. Meyer, 100, of West Chipola Avenue, a resident since 1991, died Tuesday at home.
Mrs. Meyer, a homemaker, was born in New York City and moved to this area from Leesburg. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include twin sons, Edgar, Savannah, Ga., and Richard, Bluffton, S.C.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Phyllys Moore
EDGEWATER -- Phyllys Moore, 67, of Mackeral Circle, a retired special education teacher, died Tuesday at home.
Born in Hartford, Conn., Mrs. Moore moved here in 1992 from Cromwell, Conn. She was a member of Coronado Church, New Smyrna Beach. She enjoyed crafts, especially making teddy bears.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Moore, West Hartford, Conn., and Laura Moore, New York City. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, Spaceport Region, P.O. Box 549, Daytona Beach, FL 32115-0549; or Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Thomas Neff
ORMOND BEACH -- Thomas O. Neff, 93, a retired engineering professor at the University of Florida, Gainesville, from which he graduated in 1932, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.
Mr. Neff, also a retired Navy lieutenant commander and World War II veteran, was born in Jacksonville. He came to this area in 1999 from Gainesville. He was a member of North Peninsula Baptist Church and the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, and was a past president of the Gainesville chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Survivors include his wife, Jayne; two sons, Thomas Jr., Smyrna, Tenn., and James, Gainesville; a daughter, Carol Long, DeLand; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to North Peninsula Baptist Church, 6 Sandra Drive, Ormond Beach, FL 32176. Williams-Thomas Funeral Home, Gainesville, is in charge.

Lorraine Ritzman
ORMOND BEACH -- Lorraine Ritzman, 86, of Misty Falls Drive, a resident since 1976, died Tuesday at home.
Mrs. Ritzman was born in Pottsville, Pa., and came here from Reading, Pa. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star, the Emblem Club, Elks Lodge, Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial Auxiliary and AARP. She enjoyed knitting, reading, sewing and traveling.
Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Miller, Daytona Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Memorial HospiceCare, 785 W. Granada Blvd. Suite 5, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Ormond Funeral Home is in charge.

Brandon Rogers
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Brandon R. Rogers, 26, of Jungle Road, a resident since 2001, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, after being shot at a house in Samsula.
Mr. Rogers, a roofer, was born in Malvern, Ark., and moved here from Cabot, Ark. He enjoyed fishing and stock car racing.
Survivors include two sons, Caleb Logan, Sherwood, Ark., and Brandon Jr., Texarkana, Ark.; two daughters, Automn and Calub McKay, both of Texarkana; his father and stepmother, Preston and Sharon Rogers, New Smyrna Beach; mother and stepfather, Gracie and Ronnie Davis, Cabot; three brothers, Nick Hazel, Orange City, Kurt Hazel, Gordon, Ga., and Shad Hazel, Pasadena, Calif.; three sisters, Dena Hickman and Dana Jackson, both of Hot Springs, Ark., and Jennifer Williamson, Cabot; his paternal grandmother, Floree Rogers; and maternal grandmother, Mary Rogers. Regency Funeral Home, Malvern, is in charge.

Rachelle Weeks
DELTONA -- Rachelle L. Weeks, 78, of Elkcam Boulevard, who was born in Manhattan, N.Y., died Wednesday at Deltona Health Care.
Mrs. Weeks, a retired certified nursing assistant, moved here in 1978 from Bayport, N.Y. She was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Long Island, N.Y. She enjoyed ceramics, bingo and fishing.
Survivors include two sons, David and George, both of Bayport; and seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Ray Wilkinson
OCALA -- Ray Dawson Wilkinson, 72, of 63rd Street, of Ocala, the father of two Volusia County residents, died Wednesday at Mariner Health Care of Orange City.
Mr. Wilkinson, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and moved here in 1988 from Miami. He retired from the quality control department of the Miami International Airport. He was a member of Sons of the American Revolution and Disabled American Veterans, and was a Purple Heart Association commander.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Bondy, Deltona, and Vicki Murphy, Daytona Beach; a sister, Marilyn King, Lakeland; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Thomas Young
DELEON SPRINGS -- Thomas A. Young, 68, of Broderick Street, a native of Eleuthera, Bahamas, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Mr. Young was a laborer in the citrus industry. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, sports and animals.
Survivors include his wife, Zelma; a son, Nathaniel Hanna, Nassau, Bahamas; five daughters, Deidra Giles, DeLand, Curleyssa Hanna and Kaylisa Young, both of DeLeon Springs, Karen Young, Atlanta, and Kelda Hanna, Nassau; and two grandchildren. Mack, DeLand, is in charge.

Carole Arnold
PALM COAST -- Carole Sandra Arnold, 64, of Ulysses Trail, a native of Somerville, N.J., died Tuesday at home.
Mrs. Arnold moved here in 1979 from Trenton, N.J. She was member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting and gardening.
Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Robert; three sons, Robert Jr., Holly Hill, Kenneth, Palm Coast, and Thomas, Orlando; a daughter, Kathleen Bucek, Palm Coast; a brother, John Kmita, Somerset County, N.J.; a sister, Joan Miller, New Smyrna Beach; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Memorial HospiceCare, 785 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 5, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Craig, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

John Benson
OSTEEN -- John O. Benson, 75, of Blue Heron Boulevard, a former driver for O'Brien Trucking in Illinois, died Monday at home.
Mr. Benson was born in Newark, Ill., and came here in 1979 from Lisbon, Ill. An Army veteran of World War II, he received awards including the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign medal and Philippine Liberation ribbon. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Anna; four sons, Larry, Fort Myers, John, Plattville, Ill., Paul, Oswego, Ill., and Gary, Minooka, Ill.; a brother, Glen, Texas; three sisters, Pat Davidson, Shady Oaks, Ore., Jo White and Gladys Lindt; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Phoenix Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Jan Bialozynski
HOLLY HILL -- Jan S. Bialozynski, 90, of Ridgewood Avenue, a resident since 1973, died Monday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.
Mr. Bialozynski, a retired domestic housekeeper, was born in Poznan, Poland, and moved here from Poland. He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Daytona Beach. He enjoyed gardening, tailoring and cooking.
Survivors include a brother, Thomas, Ormond Beach; and a sister, Irene Janus, Poland. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Robert Carroll
FLAGLER BEACH -- Robert F. Carroll, 76, of Windsong Circle, a sheriff's deputy for Putnam and Flagler counties before retiring, died Sunday at St. Vincent's Hospital, Jacksonville.
Mr. Carroll was born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., and moved here in 1987 from Carmel, N.Y. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Fraternal Order of Police.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Margaret; four sons, Kevin, Astoria, N.Y., Thomas, Averill Park, N.Y., Robert, Carmel, and Michael, Kerhonkson, N.Y.; two daughters, Mary Carroll, Houston, and Megan Frank, Middletown, N.Y.; a brother, Eugene, Flagler Beach; and seven grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, P.O. Box 130, Flagler Beach, FL 32136. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Grace Caruso
DELAND -- Grace Katherine Caruso, 82, of Northern Oaks Avenue, who was born in Providence, R.I., died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Mrs. Caruso, a homemaker, moved here a week ago from New Canaan, Conn. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, New Canaan.
Survivors include two sons, Al and Vincent, both of DeLand; and two brothers, William Rotella, Cranston, R.I., and Vincent Rotella, Providence. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church, 359 W. New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32720. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Francis Chamberlin
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Francis Joseph "Joe" Chamberlin, 42, of El Pino Drive, a corrections officer at Tomoka Correctional Institution for 13 years, died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Chamberlin, an Army veteran who achieved the rank of staff sergeant, was born in Camden, N.J. He came here in 1977 from Pennsauken, N.J. He enjoyed fishing and bowling.
Survivors include his parents, Charles, Edgewater, and Theresa Chamberlin, Jacksonville; a brother, Bucky, Scottsmoor; and three sisters, Mary Goodwin, Edgewater, Patricia Pettit, Woodbury Heights, N.J., and Debra Tieman, Bement, Ill. Memorial donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 2201 Alden Road, Orlando, FL 32803. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.
