Jack Boido
MAY 1, 1939 -- JULY 30, 2003
OCALA -- Jack Boido, 64, of Ocala, a former Daytona Beach resident, died Wednesday at home.
Mr. Boido, an Army veteran who served with the 82nd Airborne Division, was born in Bellaire, Ohio. A retired automobile salesman, he moved to Ocala five years ago from Daytona Beach. He was a member of Daytona Beach Masonic Lodge No. 270, F&AM, the Elks and the Eagles.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Boido, Daytona Beach, John Boido, Jupiter, and Kevan Riddle, Raleigh, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Angalette Briggs, South Daytona, and Deana Bobek, Shadyside, Ohio; his mother, Edith Boido, and a sister, Chicki Chambers, both of Ocala; and two grandchildren. Arrangements are by Hiers Funeral Home, Ocala.

Lawrence Buscher
JULY 6, 1913 -- JULY 31, 2003
PORT ORANGE -- Lawrence "Doc" Buscher, 90, of Peninsula Drive, a retired agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, died Thursday at The Huntington.
Mr. Buscher was born in Washington, D.C., and moved here 28 years ago from Springfield, Va. A former police officer in Washington, D.C., he graduated from Clemson University, where he was captain of the 1934 football team and a champion swimming. He earned his law degree from Benjamin Franklin Law School. Mr. Buscher was the president of the Society of Former Special Agents of the F.B.I. in Daytona Beach, the Elks and the Moose.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Emily; a son, Lawrence Jr., Kernersville, N.C.; a daughter, Suzanne Wilson, Salisbury, N.C.; and four grandchildren. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Ewald deFreitas
JUNE 27, 1929 -- JULY 331, 2003
PALM COAST -- Ewald S. deFreitas, 74, of Point of Woods Drive, a retired machinist for the Navy Yard in Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday at Flagler Pines Nursing Home, Bunnell.
Mr. deFreitas was born in Suriname and moved here in 1990 from Brooklyn. He was a member of St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church. He enjoyed soccer, cooking, playing cards and working around the home.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvie; a son, Ewald Jr., Brooklyn; two daughters, Karen deFreitas, Brooklyn, and Judy deFreitas, San Francisco; a sister, Elsa Monsanto, Suriname; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 111 N. Frederick Ave., Suite 100, Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Craig, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Laverne Dyess
JUNE 8, 1913 -- JULY 24, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH -- Laverne A. Dyess, 90, of Ridgewood Avenue, a resident since 1948, died July 24 at Indigo Manor.
Mrs. Dyess, a bookkeeper, moved here from her native Dowagiac, Mich. She was a member of Daytona Christian Church, where she taught Bible school and decorated the church. Mrs. Dyess enjoyed crafts, puzzles, needlepoint and reading the Bible.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Randle, Lakeland; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Daytona Christian Church, 1135 6th St., Daytona Beach, FL 32117. Volusia County Cremation is in charge.

Jean Fisher
FEB. 2, 1928 -- JULY 31, 2003
PALM COAST -- Jean Helen Fisher, 75, of Clinton Court, a native of Washington, Pa., died Thursday at home.
Mrs. Fisher, a cosmetics representative, moved here in 1988 from Atlanta.
Survivors include her husband, William Bignell; a son, James, Palm Coast; and her stepfather, Perry Weaver, Pennsylvania. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Flagler County Unit, P.O. Box 356, Bunnell, FL 32110-0356. New Life Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Arthur Houde
DEC. 8, 1923 -- AUG. 1, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH -- The Rev. Arthur O. Houde, 79, of Bermuda Petrel Court, a retired priest for the Diocese of Manchester, N.H., died Friday at Halifax Medical Center.
Rev. Houde was born in Manchester and moved here in 1995 from Honolulu. He was a member of St. Epiphany Catholic Church, Port Orange, where he assisted with mass. Rev. Houde graduated from St. Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, and was ordained in May 1948. He was an avid golfer.
Survivors include Dorcas O'Neil, Daytona Beach, who provided for her care. Cardwell & Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.

Anthony Kelly
JUNE 25, 1932 -- JULY 30, 2003
ORMOND BEACH -- Anthony W. Kelly, 71, of Flamingo Drive, a resident since 1998, died Wednesday at University East Convalescent Center, DeLand.
Mr. Kelly, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, moved here from Laurel, Md. He was a pest control agent. Mr. Kelly enjoyed country music.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy, DeLand; three sons, Michael and Daniel, both of Elkridge, Md., and Wady, Columbia, Md.; and two grandchildren. Carpenter-Curry, DeLand, is in charge.

Patrick Minghella
AUG. 20, 1926 -- JULY 31, 2003
DELTONA -- Patrick James Minghella, 76, of East Houston Drive, a retired heavy equipment operator for Zanni Construction, Reading, Mass., died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mr. Minghella, an Army veteran of World War II, moved here in 1980 from his native Stoneham, Mass. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Community, Son's of Italy, All City Club, Orange City, and a former member of the Elks Lodge in Deltona. An avid sports fan, Mr. Minghella enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and collected hats.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Virginia; a son, Charles, Melbourne; three daughters, Patricia Minghella, Deltona, Donna Judge, Pembroke, N.H., and Dianne Lally, Medford, Mass.; two brothers, Alfred, Stoneham, and Frank, Rosemond, Calif.; two sisters, Madeline Lupo and Evelyn Wagner, both of Stoneham; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, West Volusia Unit, 218-A E. New York Ave., DeLand, FL 32724. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

William Mowen
NOV. 30, 1919 -- JULY 29, 2003
DELTONA -- William J. Mowen, 83, of Galgano Avenue, a resident since 2000, died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Mowen, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in New York and moved here from South Florida. He was a former produce broker.
Survivors include Maria Russell, who provided for his care. Altman-Long, DeBary, is in charge.

Mary Raiford
APRIL 22, 1915 -- AUG. 1, 2003
LAKE HELEN -- Mary E. Raiford, 88, of Jackson Street, a homemaker, died Friday at University East Convalescent Center, DeLand.
Mrs. Raiford was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and served as clerk, trustee and usher for many years. She was also a member of the Progressive Mothers Club, DeLand, Sunlight Pallbearers Lodge, Order of Eastern Star 141, and Evergreen Women's Club, DeLand. Mrs. Raiford graduated from Bronson-Euclid High School, DeLand. She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include two nieces, Willie Mae R. Johnson, DeLand, and Margaret Hudson, N.Y., and a nephew, Horace Jones, the Bronx, N.Y., who provided for her care. Mack, DeLand, is in charge.

Ramond Raymer
MAR. 6, 1929 -- JULY 31, 2003
DELAND -- Ramond M. Raymer, 74, of Turtle Dove Trail, a retired semi-truck driver, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mr. Raymer, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Syracuse, N.Y., and moved to this area in 2000 from Pensacola. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Shirley; five sisters, Betty Burns, Marge Degonzaque, Mary Militi, JoAnne Calvallti and Georgeana Angikitis, all of Syracuse, N.Y.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 3700, DeLand, FL 32721. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Lois Straitiff
DEC. 2, 1930 -- AUG. 1, 2003
DAYTONA BEACH -- Lois Straitiff, 72, of Braeburn Circle, a homemaker, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Richard; a son, Daniel, Cleveland; a daughter, Kimberly Straitiff, San Francisco; and a grandchild. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Grace Thomas
NOV. 2, 1906 -- AUG. 1, 2003
GAINESVILLE -- Grace C. Thomas, 96, of Gainesville, a former Daytona Beach resident, died Friday at a rehabilitation center in Gainesville.
Born in Reading, Pa., Mrs. Thomas, a clerk for Hess Department Store, Allentown, Pa., for 17 years, lived in Daytona Beach from 1980 to 1992. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, and Lake Forest Baptist Church, Gainesville, where she sang and participated in Bible study groups. She also was a life member of Order of Eastern Star and volunteered to help the elderly.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Raudenbush, Gainesville, Pa., and Jane Mudge, Oxford, Pa.; a brother, Lester Adams, Daytona Beach; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Robert West
MARCH 14, 1945 -- JULY 31, 2003
DELTONA -- Robert Anthony West, 58, of Maldive Court, a resident since 1983, died Thursday at home.
Mr. West, a Navy veteran, was born in San Diego and moved here from Wisconsin.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; a son, Keith Karp, Traverse City, Mich.; a daughter, Susan Pilaske, Orlando; a brother, Michael, Pompano Beach; and sister, Catherine Davis, Barren, Wis.; and grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.
