Ezio Baruffi
APRIL 10, 1924 -- FEB. 1, 2004
BUENA, N.J. -- Ezio M. Baruffi, 79, of Buena, the father of James Baruffi, a resident of Wilbur-by-the-Sea, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Baruffi, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Lizzano, Italy. A frequent visitor to Volusia County, he was a retired public school administrator. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Vineland, N.J.
Additional survivors include his wife, Joyce; three sons, Richard, Vineland, Steven, North Wales, Pa., and Raymond, Absecon, N.J.; a brother, Dominic, Vineland; a sister, Mary Baruffi, Buena; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 555 W. Granada Blvd., Suite A-1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Shannon, Port Orange, is in charge.

Arthur Baylis
APRIL 9, 1910 -- JAN. 31, 2004
DAYTONA BEACH -- Arthur Eugene Baylis, 93, of Pleasant Valley Drive, who retired in 1982 as a business executive in New York City, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center.
Mr. Baylis was born in Colorado Springs, Colo., and moved here in 1985 from Scarsdale, N.Y. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, Ormond Beach, Traffic Club of New York, Halifax River Yacht Club and Indigo Lakes Golf Club. He earned his bachelor's degree from Colorado College and his master's degree from Tufts University.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Stevens, Middlebury, Vt.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Christ Presbyterian Church, 1035 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174; or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, GA 30368-2454. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Robert Berube
NOV. 7, 1954 -- FEB. 2, 2004
SOUTH DAYTONA -- Robert James Berube, 49, of Green Acre Circle, a resident since 1992, died Monday at home.
Mr. Berube was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and moved to this area from Manchester, N.H. He was a member of Derbyshire Baptist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed motorcycles, camping and fishing.
Survivors include a son, Daniel, and a daughter Charity Berube, both of Manchester; three brothers, Danny Berube, Holly Hill, and Dean Berube and Ronny Demers, both of Manchester; two sisters, Virginia Rainwater and Terry Shepard, both of Holly Hill; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the Derbyshire Baptist Church, 1127 Derbyshire Road, Holly Hill, FL 32117. All State Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Jessie Brisentine
JUNE 5, 1916 -- FEB. 1, 2004
ORANGE CITY -- Jessie D. Brisentine, 87, of West Central Avenue, a heavy equipment operator for the government, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.
Born in Waverly, Tenn., Mr. Brisentine moved to Orange City in 2000 from Astor. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two daughters, Lenita Tharp, Orange City, and Ann Spitzer, Astor Park; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, Orange City, is in charge.

Charles Caccavale
APRIL 15, 1936 -- FEB. 1, 2004
PORT ORANGE -- Charles F. Caccavale, 67, of Brandy Hills Drive, an automotive mechanic in Daytona Beach for 20 years before his retirement, died Sunday at home.
Mr. Caccavale was born in Jersey City, N.J., and came here in 1964 from North Bergen, N.J. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Mr. Caccavale enjoyed woodworking and camping.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Dale; a son, Charles Jr., Erlanger, Ky.; his parents, Charles and Ann Caccavale, North Bergen; a brother, Philip, East Brunswick, N.J.; a sister, Karen Faro, North Bergen; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

William Christen Jr.
JAN. 28, 1945 -- FEB. 1, 2004
PORT ORANGE -- William F. Christen Jr., 59, of Wales Avenue, a real estate appraiser, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
A native of Pueblo, Colo., Mr. Christen moved to this area in 1978 from Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a member of South Halifax Area Republican Club and coached baseball and tee ball for the City of Port Orange.
Survivors include two sons, William III and Jonathan, both of Port Orange; a daughter, Dianne Kinney, and his mother, Jennie Christen, both of Fort Wayne; two brothers, Joseph, Arvada, Colo., and J.C., Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Mary McWilliams, Littleton, Colo.; and 10 grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 555 W. Granada Blvd., Suite A-1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Cardwell & Maloney is in charge.

Helen Crane
JUNE 9, 1925 -- FEB. 1, 2004
DAYTONA BEACH -- Helen P. Crane, 78, of Pelican Bay Drive, a former secretary to a mayor of Miami, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center.
Mrs. Crane, a homemaker, was born in Moultrie, Ga., came here in 1983 from Miami. She was a member of First Baptist Church, the Northeast Miami Junior Women's Club, Florida Federation of Women and the Maggie Valley Women's Golf Association in North Carolina. She enjoyed playing bridge.
Survivors include a son, Johnny, Davie; a daughter, Susan Bergstrom, Port Orange; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119; or to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, P.O. Gladys Dalzell
SEPT. 29, 1912 -- FEB. 1, 2004
DAYTONA BEACH -- Gladys Guidi Dalzell, 91, of Daytona Beach, a resident since 1974, died Sunday at Daytona Beach Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Dalzell, who retired in 1973 as a secretary for General Electric, was born in Great Barrington, Mass. She moved to this area from Pittsfield, Mass. She enjoyed golf, painting and visiting national parks.
Survivors include two sons, Gene Jr., Ormond Beach, and Ted, Pittsfield; five grandchildren; and seven grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. National Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Maria Gee
NOV. 22, 1939 -- JAN. 31, 2004
ORMOND BEACH -- Maria "Yaya" Gee, 64, a native of Castellon de la Plana, Spain, died Saturday at home.
Mrs. Gee, a homemaker and caregiver, moved here in 1999 from Jacksonville Beach.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Robert; two daughters, Lila Parsons, Ormond Beach, and Sylvia Sipes, Port Orange; a brother, Enrique Bacas, Castellon, Spain; and five grandchildren. Edward Grider
APRIL 6, 1937 -- FEB. 1, 2004
HOLLY HILL -- Edward W. Grider, 66, of Center Avenue, a retired pest exterminator, died Sunday at home.
Mr. Grider, an Air Force veteran, was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and came here in 1953 from Fort Collins, Colo. He enjoyed animals, motorcycle riding and stock car racing.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Bonnie; two sons, Edward, Daytona Beach, and Lee, Deltona; a daughter, Jo Ellen Orie, Ormond Beach; a stepson, Ronald Vance, and two stepdaughters, Barbara Schimp and Rosemary Vance, all of Holly Hill; six grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. National Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Lillian Jeffers
NOV. 26, 1902 -- JAN. 28, 2004
ORMOND BEACH -- Lillian C. Jeffers, 101, of Center Street, a retired clerk, died Wednesday at Coquina Center.
A native of St. Johnsville, N.Y., Mrs. Jeffers was a member of Women of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include a nephew, Sherwood Smith, West Melbourne, and a grandniece, Peggy Abt, Satellite Beach, who provided for her care. South Brevard Funeral Home, Melbourne, is in charge.

Joseph Kempf
AUG. 24, 1908 -- FEB. 1, 2004
ORANGE CITY -- Joseph A. Kempf, 95, of West New York Avenue, a former milkman for Robert's Dairy in Grand Island, Neb., died Sunday at his granddaughter's home in Orange City.
Mr. Kempf was born in Dodge, Neb., and came here in 1971 from Grand Island. He was a lifelong member of the Eagles, the Catholic Order of Foresters and Teamsters. Mr. Kempf was an avid bowler and enjoyed yard work.
Survivors include two sons, Robert, Sacramento, Calif., and Ronald, Montana; two daughters, Jean Neal, Enterprise, and Mary Ellen Kloss, Dallas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Altman-Long, DeBary, is in charge.

Barbara Klish
JAN. 28, 1912 -- JAN. 31, 2004
DELAND -- Barbara B. Klish, 92, of Elmwood Avenue, a native of Waterbury, Conn., died Saturday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.
Mrs. Klish, a retired secretary, came here in 1978 from Connecticut. An artist, she was a former member of Writers of Volusia County.
Survivors include two nephews, John Barr, Edgewater, and Robert Barr, Deltona, and a niece, Barbara Beck, Lynn Haven, who provided for her care. Carpenter-Curry is in charge.

Fred LaBrake
JUNE 4, 1902 -- FEB. 1, 2004
ORMOND BEACH -- Fred T. LaBrake, 101, of South Ridgewood Avenue, who retired as the owner and operator of LaBrake Plumbing and Heating, Dolgeville, N.Y., died Sunday at Bridgeview Nursing Home.
Born in Potsdam, N.Y., Mr. LaBrake came to this area in 1967 from Dolgeville. He was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Rivera Country Club. A drummer, Mr. LaBrake played at the Old Ridgewood Hotel and the Daytona Beach Pier. He enjoyed golf and music.
Survivors include a niece, Janet Burwell, South Daytona, who provided for his care. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.
