LEESBURG -- Charles Henry Sherbert, 83, of Leesburg, a native of Daytona Beach, died Thursday at Florida Hospital Waterman, Tavares.
Mr. Sherbert, a retired Navy master chief petty officer, was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Irene, Eustis; two daughters, Annette Wiggins, Samsula, and Caroline Morris, Moncks Corner, S.C.; a brother, Robert, Port Orange; two sisters, Margaret Branham, Holly Hill, and Erma Tyler, Palm Coast; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg, is in charge.

Orren Tippins
JULY 15, 1923 -- JAN. 31, 2004
PORT ORANGE -- Orren Jay Tippins, 80, of Dogwood Road, a pressman for The Daytona Beach News-Journal for 47 years before his retirement, died Saturday at his daughter's home in DeLand.
Mr. Tippins, an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant, was born in Daytona Beach and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, the Elks and Masonic lodges, all of Daytona Beach, and the Bible Study Fellowship in DeLand.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Frances; a daughter, Gayle Wadsworth, DeLand; two brothers, Leo, Daytona Beach, and Cullen, Tampa; a sister, Jean Gay, Tallahassee; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 216 Orange Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Richard Wright
NOV. 12, 1924 -- JAN. 31, 2004
PORT ORANGE -- Richard D. "Orville" Wright, 79, of Spruce Creek Boulevard East, a captain with Braniff Airlines before his retirement, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
Mr. Wright, who retired as a major after 20 years of service with the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, was born in Wahpeton, N.D., and came here in 1989 from Boca Raton. He served during World War II with the 8th Air Force and was one of the youngest command pilots to fly B-24s during the war. Mr. Wright was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Fraternal Organization of Quiet Birdmen.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Virginia; ; two daughters, Barbara McQueary, Haslet, Texas, and Lisa Kelley, Bedford, Texas; two brothers, Robert, Moorhead, Minn., and Roger, Ulen, Minn.; a sister, Rose Mary Moore, Pelican Rapids, Minn.; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 4675 Clyde Morris Blvd., Port Orange, FL 32129. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Martha Yolton
NOV. 18, 1920 -- FEB. 2, 2004
FLAGLER BEACH -- Martha Jean Yolton, 83, of Windsong Cove, a native of Pittsburgh, died Monday at home.
Mrs. Yolton, a former self-employed accountant, came to this area in 1984 from her birthplace. She was a member of Flagler Beach United Methodist Church and the Flagler Beach Women's Club. Mrs. Yolton enjoyed sewing and crocheting.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Moreland; three sons, Robert, DeLeon Springs and C. Fred and William, both of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Carole Gresh, Pennsylvania; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Flagler Beach United Methodist Church, 1520 S. Daytona Ave., Flagler Beach, FL 32136. Coastal Cremation, Palm Coast, is in charge.

Velma Bardwell
SEPT. 20, 1933 -- JAN. 30, 2004
DELAND -- Velma Lorine Bardwell, 70, of Beasley Drive, a seamstress for Brunswick Corp. before her retirement, died Friday at Oakwood Garden of DeLand.
Mrs. Bardwell was born in Baxley, Ga., and came here in 1959 from Hazelhurst, Ga.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years, George; five sons, Daniel Bardwell, Orange City, Keith Hughes, Eustis, Raymond Bardwell, Lake Kathryn, and Jay and Stephen Bardwell, both of Lake Mack; a daughter, Olene Tazhibi, Eustis; a brother, Joel Spivey, Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Nora Lewis, Hazelhurst, and Maxine Lambert, Dothan, Ala.; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Robert Connery
MARCH 1, 1929 -- JAN. 30, 2004
PORT ORANGE -- Robert E. Connery, 74, of Sandlebury Court, executive director of the American Diabetes Association in New Jersey before his retirement, died Friday at St. Luke's Hospital, Jacksonville.
Mr. Connery, an Army veteran, was born in Albany, N.Y., and moved here in 1996 from Westville, N.J. He also was a former executive director of the American Cancer Society of New Jersey. Mr. Connery was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and attended Iona College in New Rochelle, N.Y. He enjoyed cooking, tennis and golf.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Amalia; four sons, Robert, Jacksonville, Mark, Sound Beach, N.Y., Michael, the Bronx, N.Y., and Edward, Montclair, N.J.; a daughter, Barbara McKenney, Bedford Hills, N.Y.; a brother, Thomas, Washington, D.C.; a sister, Eleanor Martin, Las Cruces, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Ronald Hall
MAY 11, 1932 -- JAN. 31, 2004
HARBOR OAKS -- Ronald John Hall, 71, a retired carpenter, died Saturday at home.
Mr. Hall, an Air Force veteran, was born in Lindenhurst, N.Y., and came here in 1970 from Amityville, N.Y. He enjoyed fishing, boating and gardening.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth; a son, Ronald Jr., Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; two daughters, Denise Ruckel, Harbor Oaks, and Lisa Hall, DeLand; a brother, Thomas, Oak Hill; and two grandchildren. MAY 15, 1947 -- FEB. 1, 2004
ORMOND BEACH -- Cheryl Jean Jackson, 56, of Linda Avenue, a resident since 1964, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.
Mrs. Jackson was born in San Diego and came here from Decatur, Ga. She enjoyed fishing, camping, shopping, cooking and animals.
Survivors include her husband of 24 years, Howard Jr.; four sons, Kenneth Taylor, Daytona Beach, James Jackson, Ormond Beach, John Taylor, Bushnell, and Paul Taylor, Hillsborough, N.C.; a daughter, Mary Tilton, Maine; her father, James Braddy, two brothers, Gary and Keith Braddy, and a sister, Dorothy Eubanks, all of Atlanta; and 11 grandchildren. Pinello, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

James Keating
MARCH 11, 1917 -- JAN. 31, 2004
DELAND -- James Leslie Keating, 86, of Marcy Drive, a native of Belvidere, Ill., died Saturday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.
Mr. Keating, a former dairy farmer, came here in 1992 from his birthplace. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, the Moose lodge and Knights of Columbus. Mr. Keating enjoyed harness racing and his dog.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Beverly; two sons, Howard, Flowery Branch, Ga., and Phillip, Rockford, Ill.; three daughters, Ann Dungan, Wheatridge, Colo., Kathryn Moore, Rockford, and Sharon Borop, Antioch, Ill.; a stepson, Gerald Hansen, Belvidere; three stepdaughters, Marcia Anello, Harbor Oaks, Cheryl Hirstein, Missoula, Mont., and Susan Hansen, Palmetto; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. DELTONA -- Phylanne L. Kolb, 71, of Dumont Avenue, a resident since 1979, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mrs. Kolb, a homemaker, was born in Concordia, Mass., and came here from Hawthorne Woods, Ill. She enjoyed dressmaking.
Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Norbert; three daughters, Dana Neel, Severna Park, Md., Kanda Denning, Bolingbrook, Ill., and Barbara Winters, Palmer, Alaska; and five grandchildren. Ireene Nelson
JAN. 7, 1922 -- FEB. 1, 2004
DAYTONA BEACH -- Ireene L. Nelson, 82, of Clyde Morris Boulevard, a former assistant to the dean of women and the supervisor of the student union at Florida Atlantic College, Boca Raton, died Sunday at Ormond in the Pines, Ormond Beach.
Mrs. Nelson, also a homemaker, was born in Hammond, Ind., and came here in 2002 from Lake Como. She attended Piedmont College, Demorest, Ga. She was a member of the Ormond Beach Union Church and the Women's Fellowship of the United Church of Christ. Mrs. Nelson enjoyed quilting, gardening, antiques, painting in watercolors and embroidery.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, the Rev. Frederick Nelson; a son, Norman, St. Augustine; a daughter, Cynthia Bogdan, Suwanee, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Ruth Saker
APRIL 28, 1917 -- FEB. 1, 2004
PALM COAST -- Ruth Saker, 86, a resident since 1979, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Flagler.
Mrs. Saker, a retired secretary, was born in Yonkers, N.Y., and came here from Fair Lawn, N.J. She was a member of St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church, the New Jersey Club, Irish American Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars ladies auxiliary, from which she received a 50-year President's Pin. She graduated from the Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. Mrs. Saker enjoyed travel and club activities.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Albert; a son, Bob, Lodi, N.J.; and a brother, Howard Lynch, Hartsdale, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church, 303 Palm Coast Parkway, N.E., Palm Coast, FL 32137. Palm Coast Funeral Home is in charge.

Norman Spraul
DEC. 17, 1950 -- JAN. 30, 2004
SOUTH DAYTONA -- Norman Edward Spraul, 53, a building inspector in Palm Coast, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.
A Daytona Beach native, Mr. Spraul was a member of Central Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, shrimping, hunting and skiing.
Survivors include his wife of four years, Jewel; a son, Bud Rainey, Ormond Beach; two daughters, Roxanne Rainey, South Daytona, and Heather Mahan, Washington; a brother, Ronald, New Smyrna Beach; a sister, Linda Shans, Union, N.J.; and two grandchildren. Thomas Vurchio
NOV. 12, 1949 -- JAN. 31, 2004
DELTONA -- Thomas M. Vurchio, 54, of Tanner Court, former owner of Thom's Taxi in DeLand, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.
Mr. Vurchio was born in New York City and lived in DeLand before moving to Deltona in 2000. He was a past president of the Mike Accardi Lodge No. 2441 of the Sons of Italy and coached a Deltona Little League team.
Survivors include a son, Anthony, New Mexico; his mother, Philomena Ricciuti, Lagrangeville, N.Y.; and two sisters, Diane Weiss, Eustis, and Phyllis Biasotti, Lagrangeville. Phoenix Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.
