Paul Sumner

OCT. 23, 1910 -- JAN. 29, 2004

DELAND -- Paul Alway Sumner, 93, of South Florida Avenue, an aerospace engineer for Curtis Wright, Caldwell, N.J., before his retirement, died Thursday at Alliance Community Center for Health Care.

Mr. Sumner was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and came to this area in 1989 from Lake Ariel, Pa. He was a member of Alliance Community Chapel and Christian Businessmen in New Jersey. Mr. Sumner enjoyed golf.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Dorothy; two sons, David Pearson, Harvey's Lake, Pa., and Peter Sumner, Western Australia; five daughters, Pam Pryce and Susan Lewis, both of Colorado Springs, Colo., Susan Bunting, Lake Ariel, Deborah Trumpf, Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Melinda Kuhner, Brown Mills, N.J.; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Compassion International, 12290 Voyager Parkway, Colorado Springs, CO 80921; or the Christian and Missionary Alliance, P.O. Box 35000, Colorado Springs, CO 80935-3500. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

William Anderson

JUNE 20, 1934 -- JAN. 29, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- William C. Anderson, 69, of Clubhouse Boulevard, the former owner of WCA Roofing & Sheet Metal, died Thursday at Bert Fish Medical Center.

Born in Gouverneur, N.Y., Mr. Anderson came here in 1986 from Syracuse, N.Y. He attended St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church, and was a member of Sugar Mill Country Club, United Way of Central New York, New Smyrna Beach Elks, and the American Arbitration Association. He also was a chairman and president of the American Subcontractors Association of Central New York. Mr. Anderson graduated from Clarkson College, Potsdam, N.Y. He enjoyed golf, travel and reading.

Survivors include his wife, Claire; four sons, Jason, DeWitt, N.Y., Richard, Fayetteville, N.Y., Thomas, Syracuse, and William, Manlius, N.Y.; a daughter, Doreen Bennett, Syracuse; a stepson, Samuel Wilson, North Brook, Ill., and a stepdaughter, Linda Carpenter, Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Robert, Parrish, N.Y., a sister, Sally Viele, Syracuse; and seven grandchildren. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.

Natalie Berger

JAN. 23, 1920 -- JAN. 28, 2004

DELAND -- Natalie A. Berger, 84, of Lancaster Road, a resident since 1982, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.

Mrs. Berger, a homemaker, was born in Bay Shore, N.Y., and moved to this area from Farmington Hills, Mich.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, William; two sons, William Jr., Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and Warren, Stillwater, Minn.; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

John Byrne

JULY 22, 1923 -- JAN. 29, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- John F. Byrne, 80, of East Ninth Avenue, an electrician for 38 years with Public Services of New Hampshire before his retirement, died Thursday at Bert Fish Medical Center.

Mr. Byrne, an Army veteran of World War II who served in the Pacific, was born in Winchester, N.H., and came here in 1989 from New Hampshire. A member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, he was also a communicant of St. Stanislaus Church and charter member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3968, both of Winchester. Mr. Byrne was an avid Red Sox fan.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Alice; two sons, Michael, Loganville, Ga., and Richard, Concord, N.H.; a brother, Robert, Blue Ash, Ohio; two sisters, Elizabeth Kingsman, Winchester, and Margaret Malloy, Keene, N.H.; and five grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Big BrothersBig Sisters of New Hampshire, Patricia Byrne Memorial Fund, 438 Washington St., Keene, NH 03431. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Lucille Caubble

OCT. 15, 1920 -- JAN. 29, 2004

GENEVA -- Lucille Truie Caubble, 83, of Geneva, a former Oak Hill resident, died Thursday at Central Florida Regional Hospital, Sanford.

Mrs. Caubble, a homemaker, was born in Walnut Ridge, Ark. She moved to Geneva from Oak Hill in 1964. A member of Church of Christ, Mrs. Caubble enjoyed gardening, music and dining out.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Anderson, Sebring, and David Caubble, Geneva; five daughters, Linda McCall, Marie Ward and Kay Wilks, all of Oak Hill, Pat Ward, New Smyrna Beach, and Reba Jackson, DeBary; a brother, Bill Ward, Wauchula; three sisters, Lorene Ladwig, Avon Park, and Betty Reed and June Cravey, both of Sebring; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Bernard Adams

APRIL 13, 1916 -- FEB. 24, 2005

DELTONA -- Bernard "Bionic Ben" Adams, 88, of Lear Drive, a resident since 1982, died Thursday at Ridgecrest Manor, DeLand.

Born in Southbridge, Mass., Mr. Adams, an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, moved here from Pompano Beach. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8093 and the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, both of Sanford.

Survivors include Cynthia Kierstead and Donna Sullivan, both of Deltona, both of whom provided for his care. Memorial donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8093, 351 S. Highway 17-92, DeBary, FL 32713. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Arthur Albrecht

JAN. 28, 1922 -- FEB. 16, 2005

DELTONA -- Arthur A. Albrecht, 83, of Dean Circle, a former machanist, died Feb. 16 at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mr. Albrecht, a Navy veteran, was born in Cleveland. He moved here in 2001 from Carrollton, Ga. Mr. Albrecht was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church and enjoyed fixing things.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Maria; two sons, Richard, Willoughby, Ohio, and Arthur, Mentor-on-the-Lake, Ohio; and a brother, Wilhelm, Pennsylvania. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Attila Boka

AUG. 31, 1936 -- FEB. 17, 2005

HOLLY HILL -- Attila "The Hun" Boka, 68, of Florence Court, who formerly ownedoperated E.N.S. Masonry Co., died Thursday at Florida Hospital-St. Augustine.

Mr. Boka, who fought in the Hungarian Revolution, was born in Hungary. He moved to this area in 1967 from New York. He was a member of the Hungarian Club, the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.

Survivors include a son, Steve, and a daughter, Pinky Boka; a brother, Laszlo, Holly Hill; and a sister, Margaret Kiss, Hungary. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Howard Busfield

DEC. 22, 1909 -- FEB. 24, 2005

HOLLY HILL -- Howard Baldwin Busfield, 95, of Newport Road, who retired as a product analyst with IBM, died Thursday at Bishops Glen.

A native of Hancock, N.Y., Mr. Busfield came to this area in 1971 from Binghamton, N.Y. He was a Mason and a member of the Metal Detecting Club of Daytona Beach. He enjoyed dancing, cruises travel and coin collecting.

Survivors include two sons, Charles, Marietta, Ga., and John, Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; and two grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Roberta Crabb

MARCH 6, 1954 -- FEB. 20, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Roberta Crabb, 50, of North Center Street, a security officer, died Sunday at Coquina Center.

A native of Los Angeles, Mrs. Crabb moved here from Dallas in 1985.

Survivors include a daughter, Amanda Clow, Ormond Beach; and three grandchildren. Newlife Cremation is in charge.

Rowena Dove-Devito

FEB. 5, 1922 -- FEB. 20, 2005

DEBARY -- Rowena Virginia Dove-Devito, 83, of Angeles Road, a former awning maker, died Sunday at Ocean View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, New Smyrna Beach.

Mrs. Dove-Devito was born in Wheeling, W.Va., and came here in 1992 from Alexandria, Va. She enjoyed sewing.

Survivors include her husband, Tony; a son, John Dove, Rixeyville, Va.; three daughters, Evelyn Stallard, DeBary, Sheila Lyons, Leesburg; and Rachael Zumstein, Alexandria; and 11 grandchildren. Altman-Long is in charge.

Elizabeth Green

APRIL 8, 1918 -- FEB. 24, 2005

DELAND -- Elizabeth "Bette" W. Green, 86, of Secluded Oaks Trail, who formerly co-owned Green's Dairy, died Thursday at home.

Mrs. Green, a homemaker, was a veteran of Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service (WAVES), where she was a gunnery instructor. She was born in Milwaukee, and moved to this area in 1944 from Pensacola. She was a charter member of DeLand Country Club and member of the Camellia Garden Circle, the Lake Beresford Yacht Club and the Junior Service League Sustainer.

Survivors include a son, C. Brewster, Crescent City; three daughters, Elizabeth Teal and Jennifer Carter, both of DeLand, and Susan Quick, Birmingham, Ala.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Mother of Good Shepard Monastery, 2075 Mercers Fernery Road, DeLand, FL 32720. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Margaret Haussmann

NOV. 2, 1911 -- FEB. 24, 2005

PALM COAST -- Margaret A. Haussmann, 93, of Webwood Place, a former private secretary, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Flagler.

Mrs. Haussmann was born in Hazleton, Pa., and moved to this area in 1998 from Kingston, Pa. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She was an avid golfer.

Survivors include four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Elaine Haussmann, Palm Coast, who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 4400 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast, FL 32164. Coastal Cremation is in charge.
