OCT. 31, 1914 --JAN. 29, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Eva Hall Nelson, 89, of Walker Street, a resident since 1972, died Thursday at home.

Mrs. Nelson, a homemaker, came here from her native Glen Cove, N.Y. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Mrs. Nelson enjoyed fishing, the beach, gardening and playing bingo.

Survivors include two sons, Richard, Ormond Beach, and Edward Jr., Bayville, N.Y.; a daughter, Barbara O'Brien, Ormond Beach; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Wanda Rhodes

JUNE 26, 1932 -- JAN. 29, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Wanda June Rhodes, 71, of Sabal Palm Drive, a former general office supervisor in the software industry, died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Rhodes was born in West Virginia and moved to this area in 1986 from Atlanta. She attended First Presbyterian Church in New Smyrna Beach. She enjoyed baking and sewing.

Survivors include her husband, Ivan "Dusty." Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Southeast Volusia Unit, P.O. Box 266, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32170. Baldwin Brothers, News Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Naomi Robinson

MARCH 29, 1921 -- JAN. 30, 2004

DELAND -- Naomi Francis Nichols Robinson, 82, of South Clara Avenue, a native of DeLand, died Friday at home.

Mrs. Robinson, a homemaker, was a member of Greater Union First Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess and was recently appointed deaconess emeritus. She also was a church secretary and active in the mission ministry. Mrs. Robinson was also a member of Queen of the South Chapter 141, Order of Eastern Star and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include a son, Michael, and a daughter Cheryl Robinson, both of DeLand; and two grandchildren. Mack is in charge.

James Sommerfield

SEPT. 2, 1929 -- JAN. 29, 2004

PALM COAST -- James Sommerfield, 74, of Federal Lane, who retired after 22 years as a Navy fire control technician, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Flagler.

Mr. Sommerfield, who also owned a grocery store-deli in Colchester, Conn., was born in Warren, Ohio. He moved here in 2003 from Winter Haven. He was a member of the American Legion and the Fleet Reserve, both in Winter Haven. Mr. Sommerfield enjoyed cooking, bowling and travel.

Survivors include his wife of 52, years, Agnes; a son, Douglas, Tampa; two daughters, SueAnn Dutcher, Palm Coast, and Joyce Steinmiller, Starksboro, Vt.; and five grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 555 W. Granada Blvd., Suite A-1, Ormond Beach 32174. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Pearl Stokes

JULY 7, 1907 -- JAN. 29, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Pearl Lee Stokes, 96, of Oleander Place, a resident since March, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Stokes came here from her native Meherrin, Va., where she was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons, James and Robert, both of Meherrin, and Clarence, Great Falls, S.C.; three daughters, Mary Foster, Green Bay, Va., Estell Kings, Terrytown, N.Y., and Vivian Thompson, Keysville, Va.; 43 grandchildren, including Frances Davis and her husband, Eddie, who provided for her care; 71 great-grandchildren; and 43 great-great-grandchildren. Thompson, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Sheila Stone

AUG. 11, 1951 -- JAN. 25, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Sheila Anne Gray Stone, 53, a resident since 1966, died Sunday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Sanford.

Ms. Stone was born in Norfolk, Va., and moved here from New York. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2093, Orlando, and St. Margaret Holy Catholic Church, Winter Park. She enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include two brothers, Gene Gray, Orlando, and Steve Gray, Winter Park; and two sisters, Mary Dickinson, Daytona Beach, and Dorothy Feffer, Orlando. Memorial donations may be made to Stewart-Marchman Center for Chemical Dependency, 3875 Tiger Bay Road, Daytona Beach, FL 32124. All State Cremation is in charge.

Sharleen Bailey
DEC. 13, 1949 - MARCH 31, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Sharleen Diane Bailey, 54, of Deneece Terrace, a native of Rochester, N.Y., died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Ms. Bailey, a telemarketer, moved to this area 1984 from her birthplace. She enjoyed bingo.

Survivors include a brother, Douglas, Rochester; and Edna Michelle, Daytona Beach, who provided for her care. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Bryan Collier

OCT. 4, 1979 -- MARCH 31, 2004

HAWTHORNE -- Bryan Elric Collier, 24, of Hawthorne, the relative of several Palm Coast residents, died Wednesday due injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Bunnell.

Mr. Collier moved to Hawthorne in 2001 from Naples, his birthplace. He was a bridge carpenter for DBE&C and Pizzetta Bridge Inc., both of Palm Coast. He enjoyed custom cars.

Survivors include his fiancee, Chenoa Seabolt; his father, Laurence Collier, Fort Myers; his mother and stepfather, Judy and Georg Bromer, Palm Coast; a brother, William Bromer, Palm Coast; and two sisters, Erin Collier, Palm Beach, and Jessica Collier, Melrose. Palm Coast Funeral Home, Palm Coast, is in charge.

John Counts

JAN. 8, 1921 -- APRIL 2, 2004

DELTONA -- John Troy Counts, 83, of East Barlington Drive, a former building contractor in Ormond Beach, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Counts, a native of Brentsville, Va., was in the 4th Reconnaissance Squadron in the Army Air Forces working as a mechanic in Pearl Harbor when the Dec. 7, 1941 attack occurred. After his time in Pearl Harbor, he attended an air cadet-flying course and flew a B-17 bomber over Germany. He moved to Ormond Beach in 1953 from Manassas, Va., and relocated to Deltona in 1984. Mr. Counts was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include three daughters, Peggy Kent, Ormond Beach, Stephanie Baker, Leesburg, and Georgia Smith, Arlington, Texas; a brother, Gilbert Counts, and a sister, Catherine Corner, both of Manassas; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. All State Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Helen DaSilva

MAY 1, 1933 -- APRIL 1, 2004

PALM COAST -- Helen DaSilva, 70, of Farrington Lane, a resident since 1995, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Flagler.

Mrs. DaSilva, a homemaker, was born Taunton, Mass., and came here from Danbury, Conn. She was a member of Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, Flagler Beach.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Fernando; two daughters, Elaine Romer, Palm Coast, and Ann DaSilva, Bethel, Conn.; a sister, Elsie Bastos, Bethel, Conn.; a sister, Elsie Bastos, Bethel; and a grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Ruth Dietzsch

MAY 3, 1934 -- MARCH 31, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Ruth J. Dietzsch, 69, of Smokerise Boulevard, a real estate broker for Spruce Creek Fly-In and Adams & Cameron Realty before her retirement, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Dietzsch, native of Knoxville, Tenn., moved to this area in 1987 from Binghamton, N.Y. She also was a former owner of Spiedi Shack Restaurant and Tavern, Daytona Beach. Mrs. Dietzsch enjoyed cooking, reading, crafts and also playing tennis and softball.

Survivors include her husband Bill; two sons, Jeff and Kurt Gregory, and a daughter, Tina Heitman, all of Maine, N.Y.; two stepsons, William, Endwell, N.Y., and John, Hilton Head, S.C.; three grandchildren; and Dawn Kulcsar, who provided for her care. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Audrey Hankinson

JAN. 13, 1932 -- MARCH 31, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Audrey Regina Hankinson, 72, of Division Street, a resident since 1948, died Wednesday at home.

Mrs. Hankinson, a homemaker, was born in Nassau, Bahamas, and move to this area from the Bahamas. She was a member of AMVETS Auxiliary, Council on Aging and Disabled American Veterans. She attended Bethune-Cookman College. Mrs. Hankinson also was a volunteer care taker.

Survivors include a son, Morris III, Daytona Beach; five daughters, Betty Peterson and Shelly Small, both of Daytona Beach, Christine Clark, New Smyrna Beach, Ramona Gaskins, Tallahassee, and Grace Hankinson, Philadelphia; a sister, Grace Plakaris, Nassau; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Thompson is in charge.

Queshawna Hawthorne

AUG. 24, 1981 -- MARCH 29, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Queshawna Hawthorne, 22, of North Keech Street, a former certified nursing assistant, died Monday at Halifax Convalescent Center.

Ms. Hawthorne, who attended Mainland High School, was a native of Daytona Beach. She enjoyed music and reading.

Survivors include her adoptive mother, Susie Weems, Daytona Beach; her birth parents, Calvin and Desiree Wilson, Fort Washington, Md.; two sisters, Lashay and LaShawnda Allen, her grandfather, William Graham, and her grandmother, Betty Powel, all of Daytona Beach. Gainous, Daytona Beach, is in charge.
