Claude Bennett

JULY 27, 1921 -- APRIL 1, 2004

DELTONA -- Claude Maddison Bennett, 82, of Bailey Avenue, a former auto mechanic, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mr. Bennett, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Maloneton, Ky., and moved here in 1999. He was member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. Mr. Bennett enjoyed boating and fishing.

Survivors include a daughter, Neita Conley, Deltona; and his twin brother, Clay, Ohio. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Cooper Bertram

SEPT. 17, 2003 -- MARCH 31, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Cooper Hawk Bertram, of Riverview Boulevard, the six-month old son of Hollie and Alfred Bertram, died Wednesday at Shands Children's Hospital, Gainesville.

Baby Cooper was born in Gainesville.

Additional survivors include a brother, Sonny; his paternal grandmother, Leslie Bertram, Holly Hill; his maternal grandfather, James Price, Ormond Beach; his maternal grandmother, Debra Price, Daytona Beach; and his paternal great-grandparents, Robert and JoAnn Horton, Daytona Beach. Pinello is in charge.

Mary Bjorkback

JULY 19, 1912 -- MARCH 30, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Mary Jane Bjorkback, 91, of Wilmette Avenue, a resident since 1997, died Tuesday at the home of her nurse in Holly Hill.

Mr. Bjorkback, a homemaker, was born in Canton, Ohio, and moved here from Phoenix. A graduate of Rollins College in Winter Park, she also was a member of the Kappa, Kappa Gamma Sorority. She translated books for the blind and enjoyed traveling and jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include a son, Edmond O'Neil, Agoura Hills, Calif.; a daughter, Ann Witkin, Daytona Beach; a sister, Dorothy Fawcett, Canton; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

John Boyhan

SEPT. 6, 1939 -- MARCH 29, 2004

PALM COAST -- John "Barney" Boyhan, 64, of Rylin Lane, a municipal government worker for the Town of North Hempstead, N.Y., retiring from the County of Nassau, died Monday at home.

Mr. Boyhan came to this area in 1988 from his native Great Neck, N.Y., where he was a firefighter for 25 years, serving with Alert Engine, Hook, Ladder and Hose Company No. 1. He volunteered at Indian Trails K-8 Center and with Citizens Observer Patrol (COPs) program, where he was recognized in 2001 for 500 hours of service. Mr. Boyhan was a member and a former two-year director of the Daytona Harley Owners' Group.

Survivors include his fiancee, Paula Colantuno; a son, Kenneth, Palm Coast; a daughter, Lisa Sherr, Roslyn, N.Y.; and three grandsons. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

Terry Fennell

APRIL 16, 1948 -- MARCH 30, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Terry G. Fennell, 55, of Derbyshire Road, a warehouse manager for S.R. Perrott, Daytona Beach, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Fennell, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, was born in Daytona Beach and was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a member of the Thursday Night Mixed Bowling League at Halifax Lanes, Daytona Beach.

Survivors include a daughter, Jessica Urban, Flint, Mich.; a brother, Woodrow Jr., Port Orange; and six sisters, Sandy Pater and Janet Sowards, both of Holly Hill, Alice Graham, Chiefland, Darien Hansen, Savannah, Ga., Lana Brown, St. Leonard, Md., and Susan Settersen, Portsmouth, Va. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Martin Finn

MARCH 11, 1951 -- MARCH 22, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Martin Charles Finn, 53, of Redding Avenue, a longtime area resident, died March 22 at his brother's home in Northampton, Mass.

Mr. Finn, a laborer and handyman, was born in Northampton.

Survivors include a daughter, Kelley Finn, Sunderland, Mass.; and five brothers, Jack and Charles, both of Northampton, James, New Hampshire, Allen, Ohio, and Christopher, Arizona. Czelusniak Funeral Home, Northampton, is in charge.

John Martin

APRIL 22, 1921 -- MARCH 28, 2004

FLAGLER BEACH -- John F. Martin, 82, of Whitefeather Lane, an iron worker for the Department of Transportation in New York, died Sunday at Sunday at Emory L. Bennett Memorial Veterans Nursing Home, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Martin, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, moved here in 1992 from his birthplace, Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Rita; a son, Brian, Brooklyn, N.Y.; a daughter, Jacquline Martin, Stuart; a stepdaughter, Dana DiNallo, New York; a brother, William, Stuart; four grandchildren; and eight stepgrandchildren. Coastal Cremation, Palm Coast, is in charge.

Marie Miller

NOV. 7, 1927 -- APRIL 1, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Marie Miller, 76, of Kenwood Drive, who retired as a supervisor at Grumman Aircraft in New York, died Thursday at home.

Ms. Miller moved here in 1988 from her native, Plainview, N.Y. She was a member of Living Legends of Auto Racing. She enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Davis, Lexington, N.C.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Paul Nieminen

APRIL 23, 1932 -- MARCH 31, 2004

PALM COAST -- Paul Kenneth Nieminen, 71, of Potterville Lane, a broker for Realty Executives in Flagler County, died Wednesday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Nieminen, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, moved to this area in 1977 from his native Worcester, Mass. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Ormond Beach, Bunnell Masonic Lodge No. 200 F&AM, Morocco Temple of the Shrine, Jacksonville, the Italian American Club and the Elks Lodge, Flagler County Association of Realtors and he was a lifetime member of the National Education Association. He enjoyed swimming, reading, baseball and watching football.

Survivors include his wife of 1 year, Barbara; three sons, Steven and Scott, Palm Coast, and Paul, Atlanta; a daughter, Susan Nieminen-Waller, Silver Spring, Md.; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 1555 LPGA Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32117; or to Bunnell Masonic Lodge No. 200 F&AM, P.O. Box 200, Bunnell, FL 32110. Frances Paletta

MARCH 5, 1939 - MARCH 30, 2004

FLAGLER BEACH -- Frances Paletta, 65, of Village Drive, a former employee of ARC Angels of Flagler County, Bunnell, died Tuesday at home.

Mrs. Paletta was born in Jamaica, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1990 from Long Island, N.Y. She was a volunteer for the Special Olympics.

Survivors include three sons, Steven, Flagler Beach, and John and Robert, both of Lindenhurst, N.Y.; a brother, Mark Wessely, North Lindenhurst, N.Y.; a sister, Marjorie Wessely, Syracuse, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to ARC Angels of Flagler County, 1202 E. Moody Blvd., Bunnell, FL 32110. Craig-Flagler Palms is in charge.

Marion Quaggin

FEB. 16, 1918 -- MARCH 30, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Marion Morse Quaggin, 86, of 10th Street, a resident since 1962, died Tuesday at Bert Fish Medical Center.

Mrs. Quaggin was born in New Haven, Conn., and moved to this area from Springfield, Mass. She was a member of American Legion Post 17 Auxiliary and American Humane Society of the United States. In April 1989, she was awarded the "Most Hours Worked" trophy and special recognition for her volunteer work with the daycare program for the elderly and disabled adults at Extended Family Inc.

Survivors include a son, Gilbert Schaffnit, Gainesville; a sister, Florence Lee, East Haven, Conn.; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society, 1200 S. Glencoe Road, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

John Rock

MAY 26, 1932 -- MARCH 30, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- John Peter Rock, 71, of Big Bear Path, who retired from Homac Manufacturing in 1994, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Rock moved here in 1985 from his native Springfield, Mass. He was a member of Riverbend Community Church where he served as a deacon, Society of Manufacturing Engravers and Primitive Bowmans Association. He enjoyed woodworking and creative cooking.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Dottie; two sons, Robert, Ormond Beach, and Kenneth, Orlando; two daughters, Susan Schieber, Altamonte Springs, and Elizabeth Rock, Ormond Beach; a foster son, Robert Cashin, Westfield, Mass.; and six grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Riverbend Community Bank, 2080 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Haigh-Black is in charge.

Arthur Sansoucy

APRIL 10, 1924 -- MARCH 30, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Arthur Sansoucy, 79, of Sunset Falls Drive, a retired estimator in the heating and plumbing industry, died Tuesday at Coquina Center.

Mr. Sansoucy, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., and moved here in 1986 from Syracuse, N.Y. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and its Bereavement, Reception Committee and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed golf and reading.

Survivors include his wife of eight years, Mary; three daughters, Andrea Montanaro, Ormond Beach, Martha Schond, Pennelville, N.Y., and Kathleen Perretta, Ogdensburg; a brother, John, Ogdensburg; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice. National Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.
