Georgene Childers

NOV. 30, 1916 -- MARCH 29, 2004

DELAND -- Georgene Grace Childers, 87, of North Hill Avenue, a native of Catlettsburg, Ky., died Monday at home.

Mrs. Childers, a retired medical secretary, moved here in 1997 from Kentucky. She served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II. She enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan McKeon, Greenville, N.Y.; a brother, James Grace, Ewington, Ohio; and two grandchildren. Carpenter-Curry is in charge.

Marion Darcy

APRIL 21, 1917 -- MARCH 29, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Marion L. Way Darcy, 86, of South Nova Road, a native of Bridgeport, Conn., died Monday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Darcy, a former manager for a clothing store, moved here in 1989 from Deep River, Conn. She was a member of Tomoka Christian Church and its Caring Christians Circle. She enjoyed baking, knitting, sewing, bowling and travel.

Survivors include two sons, Edward Buzzi, Ormond Beach, and Thomas Buzzi, Houston; three daughters, Barbara Springer, Ormond Beach, Patricia Jacome, Houston, and Roberta Lee, Fort Myers; a brother, Robert Way, Henniker, N.H.; two sisters, Marcy Manual, Salinas, Calif., and Shirley Barnaba, Aurora, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Tomoka Christian Church Building Fund, 1151 W. Granada Blvd., Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Woodward, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Jane Fallon

FEB. 7, 1921 -- MARCH 28, 2004

DELAND -- Jane R. Fallon, 83, of Woodland Circle, a native of Oneida, N.Y., died Sunday at Majestic Oaks, Orange City.

Mrs. Fallon, a homemaker, came here in 1979 from her birthplace.

Survivors include three sons, Dennis Fallon, Port Orange, Floyd Hogan, DeLand, and Wallace Fallon Jr., Oneida; four daughters, Arlene Hogan, DeLand, Donna Pynn, Chesapeake, Va., and Kathleen Denhase and Georgiana Cox, both of Canastota, N.Y.; a sister, Patricia Moeller, Huntington Beach, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Fallon, and a niece and nephew, Gail and Gary Fallon, all of DeLand, all of whom provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Mary Fender

SEPT. 6, 1921 -- MARCH 28, 2004

DELAND -- Mary Louise Fender, 82, of Chipola Avenue, a former assembler for General Electric, died Sunday at Woodland Terrace Extended Care.

Mrs. Fender was born in Leesburg, and was a lifetime resident of the West Volusia area. She enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include four sons, Brad, DeLeon Springs, Wilson, Jacksonville, Dwight, Titusville, and Lutie, Augusta, Ga.; two daughters, Betty North, Pierson, and Delores Coward, Bunnell; a brother, Kenneth Russell, Jacksonville; a sister, Alice Bennett, DeLand; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Louis Goldman

DEC. 3, 1908 -- MARCH 28, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Louis Goldman, 95, of Ruthbern Road, who retired as a master machinist in Washington, D.C., died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mr. Goldman moved to this area in 1973 from his native Washington, D.C. He was a member of Temple Beth-El and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, baseball and dancing.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Elizabeth; and a daughter, Regina White, Daytona Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Temple Beth-El, 579 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach, FL 32176. Daytona Funeral Home is in charge.

Robert Haines

JUNE 21, 1915 -- MARCH 26, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Robert A. Haines, 88, of Veterans Memorial Parkway, who retired in 1977 after 25 years as project manager for Merck, Sharpe & Dohme Pharmaceutical in New Jersey, died Friday at Majestic Oaks.

Mr. Haines, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Kingstown, N.Y., and moved to this area in 2000 from Hobe Sound.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth; a son, Douglas, Hyannis, Mass.; a daughter, Barbara Chase, Westmoreland, N.H.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, Orange City, is in charge.

David Harris

JUNE 24, 1931 -- MARCH 28, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- David M. Harris, 72, of North Halifax Avenue, founder of the Oyster Pub, died Sunday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mr. Harris, a veteran of the British Air Force, was born in London, and moved here in 1961 from Montreal. He retired in 1995, but retained partnership in the Oyster Pub. He was a member of Temple Israel. Mr. Harris enjoyed stamp and antique collecting.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Claire; a daughter, Sue Rivard, Ormond Beach; a brother, Ronald, London; and a granddaughter. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Harry Jacobs

JUNE 5, 1925 -- MARCH 28, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Harry J. Jacobs, 78, of La Gardenia, a retired tool design draftsman, died Sunday at home.

Born in Chicago, Mr. Jacobs was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany where he was a prisoner of war. He came here in 1994 from Schererville, Ind. He was a member of American Legion, South Holland, Ill.

Survivors include his wife, Merlene; two brothers, Richard, Pensacola, and Kenneth, Maypearl, Texas; and two sisters, Ruth Zagotta, Orange City, and Lorraine Swart, Munster, Ind. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 555 W. Granada Blvd., Suite A-1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Settle-Wilder, Edgewater, is in charge.

John Kosmicki

DEC. 9, 1917 -- MARCH 27, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- John F. Kosmicki, 86, of Windsor Drive, a yardmaster for Conrail Railroad in New York before his retirement, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Kosmicki moved to this area in 1983 from his native Elmira, N.Y. He attended Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church and was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Elks Lodge, both in New York. He enjoyed golf and watching baseball.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; two sons, John, Rochester, N.Y., and Joseph, Elmira; a stepson, W.P. Gafford, Salina, Kan.; a stepdaughter, Kandace Teufel, Oviedo; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Catholic Schools, 301 Demarest Pkwy., Elmira, NY 14905. Baldwin Brothers, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Mary Miller

FEB. 9, 1917 -- MARCH 24, 2004

EUSTIS -- Mary Elizabeth Miller, 87, of Eustis, a former resident of New Smyrna Beach, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital-Waterman.

Mrs. Miller, a former secretary for the U.S. government, was born in Newburyport, Mass. She was a member Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach. Mrs. Miller was an accomplished oil painter and enjoyed playing Scrabble.

Survivors include a son, John, Carrollton, Ga.; two daughters, Mary Heikkinen, Eustis, and Christine Zelnick, Mount Dora; a brother, Eugene O'Brien, Chelmsford, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Delilah Osterhoudt

APRIL 25, 1919 -- MARCH 28, 2004

DELTONA -- Delilah Osterhoudt, 84, of Prairie Circle, a resident since 1980, died Sunday at Deltona Healthcare.

Mrs. Osterhoudt, a homemaker, was born in Canton, N.Y., and moved here from Harwich Port, Mass.

Survivors include a sister, Hope Mayhew, Horseheads, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to Florida United Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 6299, Deltona, FL 32728-9988. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Dawn Pulver

APRIL 26, 1923 -- MARCH 29, 2004

DELAND -- Dawn Marie Pulver, 80, of Edgewood Boulevard, a blueprint operator for Addressograph Multigraph, Euclid, Ohio, before her retirement, died Monday at home.

Born in Cleveland, Mrs. Pulver came here in 2002 from Euclid. She attended St. Barnabas Episcopal Church.

Survivors include two sons, William, Eastlake, Ohio, and Robert Jr., Perry Township , Ohio; two daughters, Carol McCary, DeLand, and June Cooper, Newark, Del.; a brother, Robert DeHoff, Avon Lake, Ohio; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Mary Rassen

JAN. 7, 1940 -- MARCH 27, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Mary Eleanor Rassen, 64, of Palmetto Street, a former 13-year employee of Burger King, Port Orange, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Rassen moved to this area in 1990 from her native Baltimore. She enjoyed the beach, theme parks and collecting angels.

Survivors include five sons, Richard, Charles, and Edward, all of Baltimore, Stephen, Orlando, and John, Brunswick, Ga.; a daughter, Grace Riedel, Port Orange; her mother, Mary Hildebrand, and a brother, James Hildebrand, both of Baltimore; two sisters, Rachel Weinel, Mount Union, Pa., and Rosie Greene, Baltimore; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.
