Timothy Cummings

JAN. 7, 1915 -- MARCH 26, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Timothy E. Cummings, 89, of North Peninsula Avenue, a construction engineer for Bethlehem Steel Shipbuilding Division in New York City before his retirement, died Friday at Bert Fish Medical Center.

Mr. Cummings, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Dorchester, Mass., and came here in 1985 from Cape Cod, Mass. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Cummings earned a degree in civil engineering from Northeastern University.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; four sons, Peter, Boston, Timothy, Carmel, Calif., Michael, Asheville, N.C., and Matthew, San Diego; and two daughters, Jane, Monterey, Calif., and Kate, Berkeley, Calif. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Isabel Drichta

MAY 25, 1909 -- MARCH 25, 2004

PALM COAST -- Isabel M. Drichta, 94, of Barley Lane, a native of Milwaukee, died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Flagler.

Mrs. Drichta came here in February from her birthplace. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, travel, knitting and playing bridge.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Ciganek, Palm Coast. Memorial donations may be made to Flagler County Humane Society, 1 Shelter Drive, Palm Coast, FL 32137. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Gladys Gregory

JAN. 12, 1924 -- MARCH 25, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Gladys Gregory, 80, of Hamlet Circle, a former supervisor for Krabar Shoe Co., Ponce, Puerto Rico, died Thursday at Coquina Center.

Mrs. Gregory was born in Villalba, Puerto Rico and came here in 2003 from Ponce. She enjoyed knitting and crochet.

Survivors include a son, Jose Amengual, Ormond Beach; a daughter, Evelyn Rivera, Ponce; a sister, Miriam Cardona, Baltimore; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Woodward, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Mary Hoffman

SEPT. 18, 1915 -- MARCH 27, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Mary Hoffman, 88, of Enterprise Road, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.

Mrs. Hoffman, a homemaker, came to this area in 1986 from Queens, N.Y. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes, Catholic Church, Deltona.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas, Deltona, and Charles, DeLand; a daughter, Patricia Metro, Deltona; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Students of Reachout, 211 Main St., Enterprise, FL 32725. Tri-County Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Clara Johnson

MAY 10, 1908 -- MARCH 27, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Clara O. Johnson, 95, of Segrave Street, a resident since 1992, died Saturday at Olds Hall-Good Samaritan Center.

Mrs. Johnson came to this area from her native Corbin, Ky., where she was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading.

Survivors include a son, James Halcomb, Cedar Key; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Halcomb, who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to Florida United Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 6299, Deltona, FL 32728. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Theresa Klem

DEC. 15, 1937 -- MARCH 26, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Theresa Ann Klem, 66, of East 13th Avenue, a registered nurse at Bert Fish Medical Center for 24 years, died Friday at home.

Mrs. Klem came here in 1973 from her native Waukegan, Ill. She specialized in home health care. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mrs. Klem enjoyed camping, shrimping, fishing and cooking.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie; a son, Craig Irving, DeBary; a daughter, Rhonda Ryker, Lake Charles, La.; two brothers, George Bellefeuille, Bristol, Wis., and Ted Bellefeuille, Gurnee, Ill.; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Elizabeth McCormick

JUNE 27, 1924 -- MARCH 26, 2004

DELTONA -- Elizabeth B. McCormick, 79, of Freeport Drive, a native of Czechoslovakia, died Friday at home.

Mrs. McCormick, a general manager in the fabric manufacturing industry, came to this area in 1985. She was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church. Mrs. McCormick enjoyed making dollhouses and Christmas ornaments and needlework.

Survivors include a son, Michael La Pella, Winter Park; three daughters, Elizabeth Manfre, Tamarac, Mary Ann Padgett, Georgetown, and Diane La Pella, Brooklyn, N.Y.; two stepsons, Steven La Pella, Daytona Beach, Peter La Pella, Brooklyn; three daughters, Rosemarie La Pella and Patricia Constantin, both of Vero Beach, and Barbara Rosa, Brooklyn, N.Y.; 25 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Dr. Stephen Mazur

NOV. 29, 1916 -- MARCH 25, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Dr. Stephen Henry Mazur, 87, a retired anesthesiologist, died Thursday at home.

Dr. Mazur, who served in Army Medical Corps during World War II, was born in Newark, N.J., and came here in 1989 from Sun City. He was a member of the Ormond Kiwanis Club and the Unitarian Universalist Society. Dr. Mazur earned his bachelor's and medical degrees from the University of North Carolina.

Survivors include three sons, Paul, Spring Lake, N.J., and Gary and Steven, both of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Cam Blass, Ormond Beach; a sister, Sophie Strat, Maplewood, N.J.; and eight grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central Florida Chapter, 3319 Maguire Blvd., Suite 134, Orlando, FL 32803-3725. Ormond Funeral Home is in charge.

Elbert Pancake

MARCH 27, 1950 -- MARCH 26, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Elbert W.A. "Pancake" Pancake, 53, of North Wild Olive Street, a self-employed painter, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center.

Born in Logan, W.Va., Mr. Pancake came here in 1994 from West Virginia. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his companion, Susan Duncan, Daytona Beach; a daughter, Stephanie Gellner, Gallagher, W.Va.; a brother and six sisters; his mother, Rosella Pancake, Handley, W.Va.; and a grandson. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Darwin Richmond

SEPT. 29, 1914 -- MARCH 26, 2004

DELAND -- Darwin A. Richmond, 89, of Chipola Avenue, a resident since 2002, died Friday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.

Mr. Richmond, a former manager for an auto glass company, was born in Harrisburg, Pa. He enjoyed model trains and boating.

Survivors include a son, Darwin, Valley, Ala.; a daughter, Eileen Lingle, DeLand; a brother, Robert Richmond, Marysville, Pa.; a sister, Edna Crum, Pennsylvania; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. FourTowns Cremation, Orange City, is in charge.

Patricia Saari

MAY 7, 1935 -- MARCH 25, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Patricia Ann Saari, 68, of Megan Court, a program analyst for the Space and Warfare Command for 30 years before her retirement, died Thursday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Saari was born in Philadelphia and came here in 1992 from Falls Church, Va. She was a member of Laurel Rebekah Lodge No. 44, International Order of Oddfellows, American Legion Auxiliary No. 259, and Moose Lodge Auxiliary, DeLand. She attended the University of Virginia. Mrs. Saari enjoyed playing bingo and bowling.

Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Paul; two sons, Robert Arndt, Mount Dora, and James Arndt, Dale City, Va.; two daughters, Diane Long, Orange City, and Carolyn Long, Arlington, Va.; a brother, Robert Rosenberger, Taos, N.M.; two sisters, Grace Staines, Delray, and Ann Young, Rockford, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Lankford, Orange City, is in charge.

Jane Bird

JAN. 3, 1932 -- JUNE 7, 2004

DEBARY -- Jane Carol Bird, 72, of Terrace Hill Boulevard, a resident since 1978, died Monday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mrs. Bird, a homemaker, moved to this area from her native Shrewsbury, Mass.

Survivors include a son, Douglas, Orange City; two daughters, Marlene Roy, Orange City, and Jody Alvarez, DeBary; a sister, Lois Norris, DeBary; and two grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, Orange City, is in charge.

Carl Davis

JULY 25, 1932 -- JUNE 6, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Carl C. Davis, 71, of Woodcrest Drive, a maintenance worker at Halifax Medical Center before his retirement, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Davis was born in Pelham, Ga. An avid Dallas Cowboy fan, he enjoyed camping and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Helen; two sons, John Davis, Ormond Beach, and Michael Timberlake, Butte, Mont.; four daughters, Katharine Lo, New Smyrna Beach, Stephanie Clemons, Holly Hill, Helen Brooks, Port Orange, and Carla Pence, Port Orange; two sisters, Mable Broadwell, DeBary, and Edna Myers, Daytona Beach; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
