Laurie Freeman

SEPT. 15, 1955 -- JUNE 6, 2004

BUNNELL -- Laurie B. Freeman, 48, of Avocado Avenue, an office manager for a construction company in Flagler County, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mrs. Freeman, a graduate of University of Central Florida, was born in Coffeyville, Kan., and moved here in 1973 from Key West. She enjoyed riding horses and motorcycles, travel and swimming and diving.

Survivors include her husband, Marion "Bud"; two sons, Lawrence and Marcus D'Alba, both of Bunnell; her parents, Lawrence and Martha Bowman, Port Orange; a sister, Leslie Sonido, Hawaii; and a grandchild. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

John Knapp

JULY 13, 1930 -- JUNE 2, 2004

LITTLETON, Colo. -- John L. Knapp, 73, of Littleton, a DeLand resident from 1969 to 1975, died Wednesday at Porter Care Hospice, Centennial, Colo.

Mr. Knapp, a native of Haubstadt, Ind., was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Sherwood Medical, DeLand, and retired as vice presidentgeneral manager for a medical manufacturing corporation in Englewood, Colo. He attended Dayton University and earned his associate's degree from Evansville College. He was a member of Knights of Columbus. Mr. Knapp enjoyed fishing and boating.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Virginia; two sons, David, Hemet, Calif., and Todd, Callahan; three sisters, Julia Zuber, Evansville, Mary Jarrett, Vero Beach, and Jeannine May, Haubstadt; and four grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Joseph Lagrutta

MAY 12, 1912 -- JUNE 5, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Joseph R. Lagrutta, 92, of Glen Way, a retired postal clerk, died Saturday at Bishop's Glen.

Born in Rutherford, N.J., Mr. Lagrutta, a Navy veteran of World War II, moved here in 1974 from New Jersey. He enjoyed traveling and playing bridge.

Survivors include a son, Charles, Chicago; and a sister, Antoinette Lagrutta, New Jersey. Daytona Funeral Home, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Donald McDermott

OCT. 10, 1919 -- JUNE 7, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Donald A. McDermott, 84, of Regency Drive, a civilian aircraft mechanic for the Air Force before his retirement, died Monday at The Terrace of Daytona Beach.

Mr. McDermott, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Ogdensburg, N.Y., and moved here in 1984 from Columbia, S.C.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Irene; a son, Robert, Kentucky; a daughter, Linda Fitch, Maryland; a stepson, Phillip Voss, Clearwater; two stepdaughters, Julia Sermons and Kathryn Holder, and a sister, Agatha Niver, all of South Carolina; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Baggett & Summers, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

James Martin

OCT. 11, 1946 -- JUNE 4, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- James M. Martin, 57, of Silver Beach Drive, a retired air traffic controller, died Friday at home.

Born in Pomona, Calif., Mr. Martin, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, moved here in 1997 from California. For his military service, he earned the Vietnam Service and Campaign medals and the National Defense Service Medal,

Survivors include his mother, Norma Martin, and a brother, David, both of Holly Hill. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society, P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Janet Martin

JULY 15, 1939 -- JUNE 6, 2004

ORMOND-BY-THE-SEA -- Janet M. Martin, 64, of Riverbreeze Boulevard, the former owneroperator of Jan's Elderly Care, Port Orange, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Martin moved to this area in 1975 from her native Norwich, Conn. She enjoyed collecting dolls.

Survivors include four sons, John Martin and Scott Trudeau, both of Ormond-by-the-Sea, Mark Trudeau, South Daytona, and John Trudeau, Jewett City, Conn.; a brother, Michael Piacenza, Daytona Beach Shores; a sister, Peggy McGowen, Norwich; and 14 grandchildren. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Mario Micallef

MAY 21, 1935 -- JUNE 7, 2004

ORMOND-BY-THE-SEA -- Mario Maurice Micallef, 69, of Ocean Aire Terrace, a supervisor for a steel manufacturing company before his retirement, died Monday at home.

Mr. Micallef was born in Sliema, Malta, and moved to this area in 1971 from Queens, N.Y. He was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church. Mr. Micallef enjoyed soccer.

Survivors include four sons, Dana, Mark and Mario Jr., all of Ormond Beach, and Gregory, Daytona Beach; four sisters, Dorothy Bosi and Margaret Collins, both of Ormond Beach, Carmen Weppner, Daytona Beach, and Rosie Zammit, Malta; and nine grandchildren. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Andrina Milord

JUNE 27, 1908 -- JUNE 7, 2004

PALM COAST -- Andrina Milord, 95, of Warwick Place, a self-employed dressmaker and seamstress, died Monday at Florida Hospital-Flagler.

Ms. Milord was born in Jacmel, Haiti, and moved to this area in 1994 from Middletown, N.Y. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and watching television.

Survivors include two daughters, Elvire Toussaint, Palm Coast, and Sabine Milord, Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Rose Louissaint, Haiti; a grandchild; and three great-grandchildren. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Reidar Mortensen

MARCH 29, 1920 -- JUNE 6, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Reidar J. Mortensen, 84, of Newbliss Circle, a sales manager for Northwestern Life Insurance Co. in New York before his retirement, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Mortensen, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, was born in Norway and moved here in 1996 from Palm Coast. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a charter member of the British Air Museum. An avid reader, he enjoyed betting on the horses and playing golf.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Lois; and two brothers, Walter, Arizona, and Thor, Nesconset, N.Y. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association of Florida, Central Area, 412 S. Palmetto Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32114; or the Disabled American Veterans, 605 8th St., Holly Hill, FL 32119; or to a charity of one's choice. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Norman Mulonet

OCT. 3, 1933 -- JUNE 4, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Norman E. Mulonet, 70, a retired metal worker, died Friday at home.

Mr. Mulonet, an Air Force veteran, was born in Suffern, N.Y., and moved here in 1992 from New York.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Theresa; two daughters, Theresia Mulonet and Karen Wilson, and a brother, Edwin Jr., all of New York; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Edwin Pease

FEB. 1, 1922 -- JUNE 7, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Edwin Cooper Pease, 82, of South Nova Road, a former assistant engineer at a Rhode Island hospital, died Monday at Peridot Place, Daytona Beach.

Born in Pawtucket, R.I., Mr. Pease, a member of the Merchant Marine during World War II, moved here in 1993 from Providence, R.I. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Mr. Pease enjoyed reading.

Survivors include two sons, John, Greeley, Colo., and Joseph, Providence; and two daughters, Linda Pease, Providence, and Carol Pease, Woonsocket, R.I. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

James Rayburn

APRIL 1, 1935 -- JUNE 6, 2004

OAK HILL -- James A. Rayburn, 69, of River Road, a self-employed commercial fisherman, died Sunday at Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Rayburn, an Army veteran of the Korean War, was born in Shaw, Miss., and moved here in 2002 from Brandon. He was a professional musician in the 1960s and enjoyed composing music.

Survivors include a son, James, Brandon; two brothers, Kevin and Connor McDuffie, both of Oak Hill; a sister, Ann, Ruskin; and a grandchild. Phoenix Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

William Schultze

AUG. 30, 1915 -- JUNE 2, 2004

OLDSMAR -- William Eberbach Schultze, 88, of Oldsmar, a Palm Coast resident from 1988 to 2000, died Wednesday at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor.

Mr. Schultze, a retired Coast Guard chief petty officer who served during World War II, was born in Detroit, and moved to Palm Coast from Cherry Hill, N.J. A retired safety supervisor with AT&T-New Jersey Bell, he gave safety lectures at various universities and helped pass a nationwide seatbelt law. Mr. Schultze was a member of St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Charlotte; a son, William, Oldsmar; a sister, Alena Prosser, Palm Coast; and two grandchildren. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.
