Joseph Ferraro

MARCH 19, 1926 -- FEB. 13, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Joseph D. Ferraro, 78, of John Anderson Drive, a native of Elizabeth, N.J., died Sunday at home.

Mr. Ferraro, a former clothing manufacturer in New Jersey, moved here in 1989 from Little Silver, N.J. He was an Army veteran who served at the headquarters in Germany. He enjoyed the Italian classes at the Ormond Senior Center, traveling and computers. He also was a former musician who played in many different bands.

Survivors include two sisters, Yolanda Ferraro, Daytona Beach, and Connie Gentile, Ashland, Ohio. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 555 W. Granada Blvd., Suite A-1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Woodward, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

George Greening Jr.

DEC. 11, 1933 -- FEB. 11, 2005

SOUTH DAYTONA -- George Henry Greening Jr., 71, of Coachlight Court, a charter bus driver, died Friday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Greening, an Air Force veteran, was born in Camden, N.J., and came here in 2001 from Turnersville, N.J. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the Moose and Elk lodges. Mr. Greening enjoyed collecting things and watching Philadelphia Eagles football games.

Survivors include two sons, Scott, Daytona Beach Shores, and George III, Virginia Beach, Va.; a daughter, Cheryl Elliott, Sewell, N.J.; a sister, Virginia Neilio, Brooklawn, N.J.; and seven grandchildren. NewLife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Mildred Jefferson

SEPT. 10, 1908 -- FEB. 14, 2005

HOLLY HILL -- Mildred Virginia Jefferson, 96, of Ridgewood Avenue, a former grade school teacher in Hamilton, Ontario, died Monday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Jefferson was born in Hamilton and came to this area in 1989 from Toronto.

Survivors include two sons, David, Bedford, England, and Thomas, Ankara, Turkey; and four grandchildren. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Joseph McDonough

JUNE 9, 1908 -- FEB. 14, 2005

DELAND -- Joseph Harry "Joe" McDonough, 96, of North McDonald Avenue, who retired as a mechanic after 27 years with Greyhound, died Monday at Florida Lutheran Retirement Center.

Mr. McDonough was born in Alexandria, Va., and came here in 1962 from Clifton, Pa. He also worked in the area as a blacksmith for 40 years. A volunteer fireman in DeLand, he also taught first aid in Orange City and Virginia. Mr. McDonough was a member of the DeLand Moose Lodge.

Survivors include two sons, Richard, DeLand, and Michael, Branford; a daughter, Jackie North, Pierson; three sisters, Mary Jenkins, Mae Poppen and Anna Anderson, all of Alexandria; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

James Martin

OCT. 4, 1914 -- FEB. 15, 2005

PALM COAST -- James J. Martin, 90, of Weidner Place, an accountant, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Born in New Caanan, Conn., Mr. Martin moved to this area in 1979 from Connecticut. He was a member of the American Civil Liberties Union, Daytona Beach, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Palm Coast.

Survivors include his wife of five years, Nancy; a son, Deek, San Diego; a daughter, Margaret Melendez, Palm Coast; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Volusia County Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Antero Matias

NOV. 23, 1925 -- FEB. 14, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Antero Matias, 79, of Dahoon Holly Drive, a former real estate investor, died Monday at home.

Mr. Matias was born in Cumberland, R.I., and moved here from Boston in 1984. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and enjoyed crabbing and doing home renovations.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Marie; two sons, Manny, Daytona Beach, and John, Ormond Beach; a daughter, Adelina Berube, Lawrenceville, Ga.; eight grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Eva Moore

FEB. 19, 1923 -- FEB. 4, 2005

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Eva M. Moore, 81, of Rochester, a South Daytona resident from 1982 to 2004, died Feb. 4 at St. Mary's Hospice.

Mrs. Moore was born in Cazenovia, N.Y., and moved to Rochester from South Daytona. She retired in 1982 after 40 years of service as an operator from Rochester Telephone. Mrs. Moore was a member of the Port Orange American Legion Post 270, the Eagles Aerie No. 4089 and she was a lifetime member of the Frontier Pioneers. She was an avid bowler.

Survivors include two daughters, Carol Norton, Batavia, N.Y., and Lynne Degus, Rochester; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Rochester, Genessee Region Home Care, 70 Metro Park, Rochester NY 14623. H.E. Turner & Co. Inc., Batavia, is in charge.

Phillip Okal

DEC. 21, 1951 -- FEB. 14, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Phillip W. Okal, 53, of Foot Court, a cook at Steak and Shake, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center.

Born in Mishawaka, Ind., Mr. Okal moved here in 1989 from Leesburg.

Survivors include his mother, Vivian Minor, Warsaw, Ind.; and a sister, Connie Losee, Syracuse, Ind. Pinello is in charge.

Arnold Parker

APRIL 15, 1920 -- FEB. 14, 2005

BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Arnold DeWitt Parker, 84, of Burlington, the brother of Coleman Parker, Orange City, and Isabelle Heck, Deltona, died Monday at home.

Mr. Parker, a World War II Army veteran, was born in Waltham, Vt. He co-owned and operated with his brother, Parker Brothers Wise Potato Chips Distributors. He also co-owned and operated a real estate business and owned Parker Lawn & Garden & Marine in Vermont. He enjoyed golf.

Additional survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jacqueline; a son, Gregory, Fairfax, Vt.; two daughters, Dale Poirier, East Kingston, N.H., and Cynthia Parker, Fairfax; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to St. Anne's Shrine, P.O. Box 280, Isle LaMotte, VT 05463. LaVigne Funeral Home, Winooski, Vt., is in charge.

Donna Pero

MAY 30, 1916 -- FEB. 14, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- Donna F. Pero, 88, of Isabelle Avenue, a former owneroperator of a service station, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Pero was born in Liberty County, Ky. She was a past president of the Eagles 4401 Auxiliary, and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, the Moose Lodge and AMVETS. She enjoyed travel.

Survivors include her husband of 20 years, Dean; two stepsons, Larry and Richard Irvin, both of Blanchester, Ohio; a brother, Ollie Owen, Kentucky; and several grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Volusia County Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Janet Putney

JAN. 20, 1915 -- FEB. 13, 2005

ORANGE CITY -- Janet Thompson Putney, 90, of Northlake Drive, a former statistician for Nopco Chemical Co., died Sunday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial.

Mrs. Putney was born in East Orange, N.J., and moved to this area in 1980 from Wilmington, Del. She was a member of the DeLand Country Club and a local branch of the American Association of University Women. She received her bachelor's degree in mathematics from Douglass College, New Brunswick, N.J., where she was elected Phi Beta Kappa and was a former treasurer of the Douglass College Alumnae Association. She also was a former treasurer for the Wilmington Delaware Branch of the American Association of University Women and the Delaware Division.

Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Hobart; a son, Richard, Toledo, Ohio; a daughter, Ann Callahan, Arlington, Va.; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Audrey Rasmussen

SEPT. 26, 1917 -- FEB. 15, 2005

DELAND -- Audrey B. Rasmussen, 87, of Chipola Avenue, a former restaurant owner, died Tuesday at Florida Hospital DeLand.

Mrs. Rasmussen was born in Oak Park, Ill., and moved to this area in 1975 from Fox Lake, Ill. She enjoyed oil painting, crafts, sewing and crocheting.

Survivors include two sons, Donald, Orange City, and Ronald, La Valle, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Margarette Reynolds

OCT. 17, 1952 -- FEB. 12, 2005

DELEON SPRINGS -- Margarette L. Reynolds, 52, of Whooping Crane Drive, a staffing coordinator for the Alliance Nursing Center, DeLand, died Saturday at home.

Mrs. Reynolds was born in Germany and moved to this area in 1995 from Citrus County. She enjoyed decorating her home.

Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Roger; a son, Thomas, DeLeon Springs; two daughters, Donna Reynolds, DeLand, and Jamie Bouchard, Brunswick, Ga.; a brother, Curt Geshwill, Germany; two sisters, Gertrude Johnson and Erica Cunn, both of California; and three grandchildren. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.
