SEPT. 7, 1941 -- MAY 31, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Leslie Ray Whittington, 62, of North Stark Avenue, a construction foreman, died Monday at home.

Mr. Whittington, an Army veteran, was born in Nitro, W.Va., and moved to this area in 1987 from Charleston, W.Va. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Martha; a son, Leslie Jr., Charleston; two daughters, Rita Whittington, Charleston, and Rhonda Harrison, Lakeland, Tenn.; two stepsons, Anthony Kent, Brandon, and Andrew Kent, Lake Mary; a brother, James, Windemere; and nine grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Walter Casey

MARCH 22, 1912 -- MAY 30, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Walter H. Casey, 92, a firefighter, died Sunday at Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Casey, a Navy veteran, was born in Boston, and moved here in 1970 from Staten Island, N.Y. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed electronics, playing bridge and community theatre.

Survivors include a son, Walter, Bellevue, Neb.; a daughter, Janet Vangelbar, Silver Creek, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Daytona Funeral Home is in charge.

Richard Chouinard

JUNE 26, 1948 -- JUNE 4, 2004

FLAGLER BEACH -- Richard L. Chouinard, 55, of South Daytona Avenue, a restaurant manager, died Friday at home.

Mr. Chouinard was born in Fall River, Mass., and moved here this year from Nashua, N.H. He enjoyed cooking and the beach.

Survivors include a son, Bryce, Merrimack, N.H.; two daughters, Erica Kelly and Sara Chouinard, Atlanta; a brother, David, Joliet, Ill.; and a sister, Sandra Patterson, Flagler Beach. Coastal Cremation, Palm Coast, is in charge.

John Gibbons

JULY 21, 1927 -- JUNE 3, 2004

EDGEWATER -- John Paul "Jack" Gibbons, 76, of Rio Del Indio Drive, a commercial airline and private pilot, died Thursday at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach.

Mr. Gibbons, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Chicago, and came here in 1984 from Dixon, Ill. He owned and operated Gibbons Bus Service in Dixon for 20 years, worked for Zuzich Truck Lines in Chicago as an operations manager and was a truck driver for Coronado Paints in Florida. He attended First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach and was a member of the Elks Lodge in Illinois and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He enjoyed reading.

Survivors include his wife, LaVonne; three sons, David, New Smyrna Beach, Jack, Channahon, Ill., and Jon, Altamonte Springs; two daughters, Sharon Ellis, Sugar Grove, Ill., and Susan Burdge, Florida; a brother, Ronald, Minnesota; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Baldwin Brothers, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Josephine Harris

DEC. 24, 1941 -- JUNE 4, 2004

DELAND -- Josephine Harris, 62, of West New Hampshire Avenue, a former housekeeper at Stetson University, died Friday at home.

Mrs. Harris, a DeLand native, was a 1959 graduate of Euclid High School. She was a member of Greater Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Nathaniel Jr., Bruce and Darryl, all of DeLand, Kevin, Daytona Beach, and Kenneth, Deltona; four daughters, Maydell McGregor, Oretha Wilson, and Angela Harrell, all of DeLand, and Adena Ware, DeLeon Springs; two sisters, Betty Humphrey, DeLand, and Ida Bailey, Orange City; a brother, Delanor Gibson, Miami; 31 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. Mack is in charge.

Marie Itoh

NOV. 21, 1918 -- JUNE 2, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Marie R. Itoh, 85, of Mossy Oak Lane, a resident since 1945, died Wednesday at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach.

Mrs. Itoh, a retired secretary, moved to this area from her native Philadelphia. She was a member of the Edgewater Alliance Church. She enjoyed historical and Biblical research, teaching the Bible, visiting nursing homes and volunteering at missions.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Kenneth; two sons, David, Ormond Beach, and Christopher, St. Petersburg; a sister, Catherine Marelyan, Philadelphia; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the Edgewater Alliance Church, 310 N. Ridgewood Ave., Edgewater, FL 32132. Daytona Funeral Home, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Mary Jones

JAN. 20, 1937 -- JUNE 2, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Mary Alice Jones, 67, of Tomoka Meadows Boulevard, a retired civil service computer programmer, died Wednesday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Jones, a Navy veteran, was born in Chicago, and moved here in 1983 from Marietta, Ga. She enjoyed reading, golf and bowling.

Survivors include a son, Harold II, Daytona Beach; two daughters, Jan Snead, Ormond Beach, and Debra Kay, Toccoa, Ga.; and eight grandchildren. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Henry Julian

DEC. 31, 1931 -- MAY 30, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Henry D. Julian, 72, of North Hollywood Avenue, a real estate broker, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Julian was an Air Force veteran reaching the rank of second lieutenant. He enjoyed playing bridge, photography and flying.

Survivors include Tammy Hall, Daytona Beach, who provided for his care. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Ines Papazian

JAN. 4, 1913 -- MAY 27, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Ines Maria Papazian, 91, of Beville Road, a resident since 1986, died May 27 at home.

Mrs. Papazian, a homemaker, was born in La Chorrera, Panama, and moved to this area from Panama.

No known immediate relatives survive. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Alice Renfroe

NOV. 24, 1970 -- JUNE 3, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Alice Annette Renfroe, 33, of Inwood Avenue, a packer in the seafood packing industry, died Thursday at home.

Ms. Renfroe, a Daytona Beach native, enjoyed the outdoors and being on the river.

Survivors include a son, Justin Norris, New Smyrna Beach; two daughters, Ashley Renfroe, Edgewater, and Kaylina Renfroe, Jacksonville; and her mother, Sharon Palmer, New Smyrna Beach. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Florence St. John

APRIL 26, 1923 -- JUNE 3, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Florence M. St. John, 81, of Sea Harbor Drive, who retired as an executive secretary, died Thursday at Coquina Center.

Mrs. St. John moved to this area in 1980 from Detroit, her birthplace. She was a member of St. Brendan's Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Andy; two sons, John Judd, Whitemore Lake, Mich., and Dennis St. John, Chicago; a daughter, Joanne Matson, Shelby Township, Mich.; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may made to the Lukemia Foundation, 3101 Maguire Blvd., Orlando, FL 32803. Ormond Funeral Home is in charge.

Anna Schultz

FEB. 12, 1919 -- JUNE 3, 2004

DELAND -- Anna Schultz, 85, of East Parkdale Avenue, who retired after 50 years as a supermarket cashier, died Thursday at Woodland Terrace.

Born in Philadelphia, Miss Schultz moved here in 1998 from Tucson, Ariz. She enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors include Jeanne Henton and Pat Grantland, both of DeLand, both of whom provided for her care. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Patricia Selvey

FEB. 16, 1936 -- JUNE 3, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Patricia Ann Selvey, 68, Ravenwood Drive, a retired bank teller, died Thursday at Hospice Care Center.

Mrs. Selvey was born in Queens, N.Y., and came here in 1981 from Long Island, N.Y.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, John; two sons, John, Port Orange, and Robert, Edgewater; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.
