JAN. 23, 1909 -- MAY 30, 2004

PALM COAST -- Beatrice Fettner, 95, of Westcedar Lane, a native of London, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Ms. Fettner, a secretary and receptionist for Larry's TV Service in Brooklyn, N.Y., came here in 1996 from Pennsylvania. She enjoyed reading and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter, Laura Epstein, Palm Coast; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Vernon Hamilton

DEC. 3, 1936 -- MAY 30, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Vernon Bernard Hamilton, 67, of Roma Street, a retied custodian at Holly Hill Elementary School, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mr. Hamilton, a Daytona Beach native, attended the former Campbell Street High School. He enjoyed watching sports and playing cards and billiards.

Survivors include a son, Vernon Jr., Daytona Beach; two daughters, Bernice Gamble, Ormond Beach, and Yoylita Hamilton, Altamonte Springs; and six grandchildren. Gainous is in charge.

Virginia Heric

JULY 20, 1933 -- MAY 30, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Virginia Heric, 70, of India Palm Drive, a longtime resident of the Daytona Beach area, died Sunday at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach.

Ms. Heric was born in Palatka. She previously worked for the Credit Bureau and local banks, but most recently she was a sales clerk with Dollar General in Holly Hill and Edgewater. A member of the Moose Lodge, Ms. Heric enjoyed round dancing, sewing and karaoke.

Survivors include her companion, Ron "Birdman" Byrd; a son, Jim Elbers, Port Orange; three daughters, Deborah Huskey, Edgewater, Micki Mote, Port Orange, and Tara Lamb, Ponce Inlet; a brother, Harvey Adams, Daytona Beach; two sisters, Bobbie Sue Wiseman, Holly Hill, and Nancy Andrews, Orlando; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Magnus Keckler

JAN. 16, 1914 -- MAY 29, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Magnus R. Keckler., 90, of Saxon Drive, a former employee at Sandy Book Store in Clearwater, died Saturday at home.

A native of Atlanta, Mrs. Keckler moved to this area in 1995 from Clearwater. She enjoyed gardening and caring for her pets.

Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Dungan, New Smyrna Beach; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Elias Logothetis

AUG. 14, 1928 -- MAY 30, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Elias D. Logothetis, 75, of Sixth Street, a professional guitarist who played Greek folk music in the United States, Greece and Germany, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Logothetis, who trained as an electrician in the Greek Airforce, was born in Peraeus, Greece, and moved here from New York City in 1976. He was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church, Musician's Association of Athens, Greece, and a supporter of the Olympiakos Soccer Club, Peraeus. A U.S. citizen since 2000, Mr. Logothetis enjoyed music and cooking.

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Maude; two sons, Diomedes and Aristides, both of New York City; two step-sons, Herschel Pellicer, Daytona Beach, and Hubert Pellicer, Holly Hill; two brothers, Anthony and Emilios, and a sister, Sister Nektaria, all of Athens; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 129 N. Halifax Avenue, Daytona Beach, FL 32118. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Doris Moretz

MARCH 10, 1931 -- MAY 30, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Doris Lee Moretz, 73, of Seacreat Drive, a owner and operator of a daynight security service, died Sunday at home.

Ms. Moretz was born in Petersburg, Va., and moved here in 1982 from Bloomington, Ind. She was a member of the DeLand Moose Lodge and Ormond Beach Elks. She enjoyed CB radios, walking, community theatre and was an avid Elvis fan.

Survivors include her companion, Anthony Grillotti; a son, Steve Wylie, and a daughter, Kathy Ellefsonboth of Bloomington; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Memorial HospiceCare, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 319, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Margaret Vinson

OCT. 24, 1919 -- MAY 29, 2004

DELAND -- Margaret "Dora" Vinson, 84, of East Howry Avenue, who owned Dora's Beauty Salon for 30 years before her retirement in 1986, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-DeLand.

Mrs. Vinson was born in Greenville, and came here in 1959 from Perry. A local artist, she was a member of First Baptist Church and organized the first garage sale for Habitat for Humanity in DeLand.

Survivors include her husband of 18 years, Wilbur; two sons, James "Pat" Murphy, Ormond Beach, and Robert Murphy, Satellite Beach; a daughter, Jaye Murphy-McLeod, New York City, a grandchild; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 604 S. Spring Garden Avenue, DeLand, FL 32720. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Gary Walters

NOV. 7, 1945 -- MARCH 30, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Gary R. Walters, 58, of Crooked Tree Trail, the owner of Gary Walters and Associates, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Walters was born in Cleveland, and moved to this area in 1973 from Pittsburgh. He was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Barbara; two sons, Steven, Fort Lauderdale, and Jason, Tampa; his mother, Elane Walters, Norcross, Ga.; and two sisters, Linda Aplis, Norcross, and Pam Lane, Lawrenceville, Ga. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice. Daytona Funeral Home, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Violet Adams
SEPT. 16, 1926 -- JUNE 9, 2004

DELAND -- Violet D. "Frankie" Adams, 77, of East Ohio Avenue, a retired bookkeeper for Volusia Dental Lab, died Wednesday at the home of her daughter in DeLand.

Mrs. Adams was born in Wimbledon, England, and moved to this area in 1946 from England. She was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. She enjoyed animals.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Loren; a son, Kevin, Port St. Lucie; a daughter, Lorraine Adams, DeLand; a brother, Fredrick Giles, England; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to West Volusia Humane Society, 800 Humane Society Road, DeLand, FL 32720; or to St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 319 W. Wisconsin Ave., DeLand, FL 32720. Venerable Evans

JAN. 13, 1911 -- JUNE 9, 2004

DELTONA -- Venerable E. Evans, 93, of Platinum Court, a former director of property maintenance for the state of New Jersey, died Wednesday at Merrill Gardens, Orange City.

Mr. Evans was born in New York City, and moved to this area in 1982. He was a member of Deltona Lakes Baptist Church, Fourth Ward Democratic Association of East Orange, N.J., and the Civil Rights Commission. He played semi-professional baseball with the Orange Triangles in New Jersey during the 1940 to 1950 seasons. Mr. Evans enjoyed politics, sports and playing cards.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Rogers, Deltona; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Marie Fehd

NOV. 23, 1914 -- MAY 24, 2004

SMITHFIELD, Va. -- Marie Emma Fehd, 89, of Smithfield, a DeBary resident from 1974 to 2002, died May 24 at home.

Born in Warwick County, Ind., Mrs. Fehd retired as a manager with Tupperware. She was a member of Community United Methodist Church, DeBary, and a lifetime member of the Indiana Parents Teachers Association. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, quilting and cooking.

Survivors include a son, Dale, Smithfield; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Community United Methodist Church Building Fund, 41 W. Highbanks Road, DeBary, FL 32713. Baldauff, Orange City, is in charge.

Stella Garnett

FEB. 25, 1915 -- JUNE 4, 2004

DELAND -- Stella M. Garnett, 89, of University Circle, a native of Honaker, Va., died Friday at Cape Town Assisted Living Facility, Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Mrs. Garnett, a homemaker, formerly owned Mango Orchard, where they grafted the mango to other fruits such as pineapples to give them different tastes. The orchard had approximately 17 different varieties of mangos.

Survivors include a son, Leslie, Lantana; and her nephew and niece-in-law, Bill and Janet White, Titusville, who helped provide for her care. Cape Wilbert Crematory, Jackson, Miss., is in charge.

James Hibbs

MARCH 7, 1933 -- JUNE 9, 2004

EDGEWATER -- James Herman Hibbs, 71, of Mockingbird Lane, a retired truck driver, died Wednesday at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach.

Mr. Hibbs, an Army veteran of the Korean War, moved to this area in 1972 from Louisville, Ky., his birthplace. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include four stepdaughters, Hope Lunsford, Pensacola, Debbie Mirador, Florida, Darlene Diehl, Milton, and Lila Snyder, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a sister, Ruth Garr, Edgewater; and six grandchildren. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.
