William Burk

MARCH 21, 1920 -- SEPT. 14, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- William H. Burk, 84, of King Grant Road, who retired as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army, died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mr. Burk, an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Italian Campaign with the 34th division of the 168th Regiment, was born in Waterloo, Iowa, and moved here in 1980 from Fort Lauderdale. He also was a veteran of the Korean War. A graduate of St. Thomas Academy, St. Paul, Minn., Mr. Burk also attended the University of Virginia. He was member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Port Orange. He enjoyed travel, music and learning.

Survivors include a son, William Jr., Pompano Beach; a daughter, Rebecca McDonald, Clearwater; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Miriam Burns

AUG. 7, 1920 -- SEPT. 17, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Miriam Burns, 84, of Bella Vista, a resident since 1999, died Friday at Bert Fish Medical Center, New Smyrna Beach.

Mrs. Burns moved to this area from her native, Trenton, N.J. She was a member of Sacred Heart-St. Gerard Catholic Church, Edgewater. Mrs. Burns enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Thomas; three sons, Thomas Jr., Titusville, N.J., Michael Lambertville, N.J., and John, Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Leroy Doyle

MARCH 5, 1937 -- SEPT. 17, 2004

DELTONA -- Leroy Doyle, 67, of DeCarlo Court, a technical sergeant and chief administrative supply clerk for the U.S. Air Force having served for 20 years at Maxwell Air Force Base and the Pentagon, died Friday at Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Born in Wilmore, Ky., Mr. Doyle moved here in 1991 from Nicholasville, Ky. He also was a produce manager for the former Kash & Karry food store, Orange City. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include two daughters, Lillian Malicote, Deltona, and Nola Wood, Carson, Va.; his mother, Lillie McCarty, Irvine, Ky.; two brothers, Bradford, Irvine, and Bobby, Sarasota; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Deltona Memorial, Orange City , is in charge.

Roy Fosson

AUG. 9, 1923 -- SEPT. 17, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Roy Harold Fosson, 81, of Whooping Crane Court, a metalurgist for Armco Steel Co., Ashland, Ky., before his retirement, died Friday at Horizon Healthcare.

Mr. Fosson, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, moved to this area in 1984 from Ashland, his birthplace. He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include a son, David, and a daughter, Connie Morgan, both of Daytona Beach; a brother, Kenneth, Ashland; two sisters, Ruth Daniels, Russell, Ky., and Ruby Pevato, Canyon Lake, Texas; and a grandchild. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Judith Hill

JULY 10, 1945 -- SEPT. 17, 2004

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Judith Dianne Hill, 59, of Tradewinds Circle, who was self-employed in management rental properties, died Friday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Born in Greensboro, N.C., Mrs. Hill moved here in 2002 from Badin, N.C. She was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge No. 1263 and Moose on Bikes.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Ronnie; two daughters, Dianne Weber, Daytona Beach, and Kimberly Maness, Liberty, N.C.; two brothers, Larry Flack, Deltona, and Ray Flack, Highpoint, N.C.; two sisters, Norma Flack, Astor, and Janice Flack, Greensboro; and five grandchildren. Lohman-Ormond, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Dianna Lawrence

APRIL 30, 1955 -- SEPT. 17, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- Dianna Marie Lawrence, 49, of Oleander Avenue, a production worker, died Friday at home.

Mrs. Lawrence was born in Daytona Beach and was a lifelong resident of the area. She enjoyed playing poker.

Survivors include three daughters, Mona Tompkins, Ormond Beach, Vivian Lawrence, Holly Hill, and Jennifer South, Pierson; her mother, Vivian Nickel, Palm Coast; a brother, Robert Knoblaugh, Bunnell; a sister, Nancy Cabo, Palm Coast; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119. Pinello, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Martha Lindsey

JULY 22, 1928 -- SEPT. 18, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Martha L. Lindsey, 76, of Peninsula Drive, a secretary in the banking industry, died Saturday at home.

Mrs. Lindsey, a native of Chicago, moved to this area in 1971 from Carrollton, Ky. She attended Daytona Beach Drive-In Christian Church. Mrs. Lindsey enjoyed reading and walking her dog.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Robert "Bob"; two daughters, Christi Sharp, Port Orange, and Lisa Crawford, Miami; and three grandchildren. Frank Lloyd

AUG. 26, 1920 -- SEPT. 18, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Frank Lloyd, 84, a 20-year employee in the water treatment plant for the City of Daytona Beach before his retirement, died Saturday at home.

Born in Baltimore, Mr. Lloyd, an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, came to this area in 1966 from Philadelphia.

Survivors include two sons, David, Jonesboro, Ga., and Robert, Deerfield Beach; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Volusia County Cremation, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Lonnie Miller

MARCH 19, 1911 -- SEPT. 16, 2004

BUNNELL -- Lonnie T. "L.T." Miller, 93, of Cheryl Elaine Lane, a retired boat mechanic, died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Miller was born in Monticello and was a lifelong resident of Flagler County. He enjoyed fishing.

No known immediate relatives survive. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Shawn Rottner

MAY 16, 1979 -- SEPT. 17, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Shawn Adam Rottner, 25, of Oak Forrest Circle, a pond builder, died Friday at home. An autopsy is pending.

Mr. Rottner, a native of Sanford, Maine, moved here in 1992 from New Hampshire. He enjoyed dancing, surfing and music.

Survivors include his father, Werner, Cullman, Ala.; his mother, Terri Rottner, and a brother, Dustin, both of Falls Church, Va.; a sister, Rebecca Paul, Orlando; his maternal grandfather, Jim Paul, Bradenton; and his maternal grandmother, Francis Paul, Daytona Beach. Memorial donations may be made to the Halifax Humane Society, P.O. Box 9035, Daytona Beach, FL 32120-9035. Pinello, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Anne Hale

AUG. 28, 1908 -- JUNE 7, 2004

DELAND -- Anne T. Hale, 95, of West Rich Avenue, a resident since 1962, died Monday at home.

Mrs. Hale, a homemaker, was born in Minden, Germany, and came to this area from Gainesville. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church.

Survivors include a son, Tom, Tampa; a daughter, Margaret Hale, DeLand; and three grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Carpenter-Curry is in charge.

Rita Kuecken

MAY 10, 1919 -- JUNE 8, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Rita I. Kuecken, 85, of Pioneer Trail, a resident since 1983, died Tuesday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Kuecken, a homemaker, was born in Chicopee Falls, Mass. She moved here from Roseville, Mich. Mrs. Kuecken was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Quail Hollow Homeowners Association.

Survivors include two sons, Dale, New Smyrna Beach, and Glen, Clarkston, Mich.; a daughter, Marilyn Bommarito, Harrison Township, Mich.; a brother, Leonard Brothers, Warren, Mich.; two sisters, Dorothy Boyd, Warren, and Rose Suhy, Clinton Township, Mich.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Kathleen Price

AUG. 1, 1956 -- JUNE 7, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Kathleen H. Price, 47, of Woodland Drive, a native of High Point, N.C., died Monday at home.

Mrs. Price, a homemaker, moved here in 1991 from Ocala. She attended Light of Calvary Church, New Smyrna Beach. She enjoyed home decorating and baking.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; a son, Derek, High Point; a daughter, Ashley, Edgewater; her parents, Lloyd and Margaret Harvell, High Point; two sisters, Patricia Pickett, Virginia, and Maria Harvell, High Point; and a brother, Gary Harvell, Georgia.
