Frances Sullivan

MARCH 20, 1930 -- OCT. 26, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Frances J. Sullivan, 74, of Umbrella Tree Drive, a Real Estate agent in Orange County, N.Y., before her retirement, died Tuesday at Kindred Hospital, Green Cove Springs.

Mrs. Sullivan was born in New York City and moved to this area in 2000 from Green Acres. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach, and attended St. Gerard's Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel; three sons, Daniel Jr. and Gerard, both of Edgewater, and James, Pelham, N.Y.; a sister, Virginia Dwyer, West Palm Beach; and two grandchildren. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Annie Thomas

JAN. 9, 1916 -- OCT. 26, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Annie Davis Thomas, 88, of Washington Street, a retired nurses assistant at Bert Fish Medical Center, died Tuesday at Bert Fish Medical Center.

Mrs. Thomas moved to this area in 1932 from her native Mitchell, Ga. She was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, where she served on the Board of Usher. She enjoyed reading, walking and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include, a son Johnny, New Smyrna Beach; three daughters, Muriel Davis, New Smyrna Beach, Audrah George, Rockledge, and Margaret Clark, San Bernardino, Calif.; a sister, Christine Meek, New York City; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Gainous, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Walter Vincent Jr.

NOV. 5, 1925 -- OCT. 22, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Walter W. Vincent Jr., 78, of Maple in the Wood, who retired after 25 years as a patrolman for the Indianapolis Police Department, died Friday at home.

Mr. Vincent, a Navy and Marine Corps Veteran of World War II, was born in Terre Haute, Ind., and moved to this area in 1993 from Monticello, Ind. He was a deputy sheriff in Putnam County, Ind., and served as administrative supervisor of security services at Cold Springs Road VA Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Vincent was a member of the First Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 86 and co-founder and a member of the Police Athletic League, both in Indianapolis, and was a member of the Indianapolis Masonic Lodge. He was town marshall in Roachdale, Ind.

Survivors include his fiancee of 13 years, Nancy Billue; five sons, Brian, New Smyrna Beach, Michael, John's Island, S.C., Byron, Lovelock, Nev., and Elliott and Benjamin, both of Fallon, Nev.; two daughters, Vickie Vincent, Wasilla, Alaska, and Tamara Vincent, Newport, N.C.; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Mary Sams

OCT. 18, 1925 -- JUNE 12, 2004

DELAND -- Mary L. Sams, 78, of South Parsons Avenue, a chef for Morrison's Cafeteria, died Saturday at Florida Hospital, DeLand.

Mrs. Sams moved to this area at a young age from her native Georgia. She was a long-time member of Bethel AME Church, where she was a steward emeritus and on the missionary board.

Survivors include two sons, Alvin Williams and Leonard Sams Jr., both of DeLand; a daughter, Betty Bouey, St. Petersburg; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Mack is in charge.

Frances Scott

NOV. 22, 1937 -- JUNE 12, 2004

PALM COAST -- Frances C. Scott, 66, of Pineland Lane, a therapy aide at Pilgrim State Hospital, Long Island, N.Y., before her retirement, died Saturday at home.

Ms. Scott was born in East Islip, N.Y., and moved here in 2003 from Long Island. She enjoyed playing bingo and crochet.

Survivors include three sons, Frank and Justus Scott, both of Palm Coast, and Steven Scott, Jacksonville; two daughters, Sondra Pisco, Palm Coast, and Patricia Pritez, Farmingville, N.Y. two brothers, Justus Brown, Patchogue, N.Y., and Howard Brown, Centersville, Tenn.; three sisters, Betty Crandell, Bayport, N.Y., and Alice Cordova, California, and Dorothy Peters, New York; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Janice Spradlin

JULY 7, 1940 -- JUNE 12, 2004

BUNNELL -- Janice Spradlin, 63, of Sherwood Street, who retired from the Ford Motor Co. in Ohio, died Saturday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Born in Cincinnati, Mrs. Spradlin moved here in 1985 from Ohio. She was a member of People Adjusting to Limited Sight (PALS). Mrs. Spradlin enjoyed crafts.

Survivors include three sons, Jeff Clark and Allen Spradlin, both of Bunnell, and Mike Clark, Boston; a daughter, Denise Mann, Ohio; two brothers, Buddy and Tom Wallace, both of Kentucky; a sister, Maybelle Lindsey, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Russell Ward

DEC. 28, 1958 -- JUNE 12, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Russell Anthony Ward, 45, of Avenue E, a painter and plasterer for Wigby Construction, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Ward was born in Morris, Ill., and moved to this area in 1979 from Illinois. He was an avid bicyclist.

Survivors include a son, Dustin, Rhode Island; and his mother, Shirley Ward, Ormond Beach, and two sisters, Christine Ward and Ronnie Keith, all of Ormond Beach; and three grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Marisa Alvarez
AUG. 13, 1920 -- JUNE 15, 2004

DELTONA -- Marisa Medina Alvarez, 83, of Dewberry Drive, a retired secretary, for the mayor's office of Caguas, Puerto Rico, died Tuesday at home.

Mrs. Alvarez, was born in Caguas, and moved to this area in 1988 from Puerto Rico. She also raised parakeets and cockatiels and enjoyed interior decorating.

Survivors include two sons, Fernando, Deltona, and Hiram, Toms River, N.J.; a daughter, Yvette Alvarez, Deltona; a brother, Miguel Medina, Puerto Rico; two sisters, Bernice Medina, Miami, and Irma Medina, Puerto Rico; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Harold Barnes

MARCH 14, 1923 -- JUNE 16, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Harold Williams Barnes, 81, of Live Oak Avenue, a retired carpenter, died Wednesday at Avante At Ormond Beach.

Mr. Barnes, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, was born in Binghamton, N.Y., moved here in 1969 from Elmira, N.Y. He was a member of Holly Hill Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Rosalie; two daughters, Gloria Stewart and Cindi Webster, both of Ormond Beach; and two brothers, Norman Barnes, Vestal, N.Y., and Jack Hurd, Binghamton; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Newlife Cremation is in charge.

Ira Brundage

MARCH 2, 1921 -- JUNE 15, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Ira S. Brundage, 83, of 18th Avenue, who formerly owned several businesses, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Brundage, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, was born in Hammondsport, N.Y., and move here in 2000 from Crawfordville. He owned and operated Brundage Hardware and Overseas Motors, both in Hialeah, and Brundage Motors in Albany, Ga. Mr. Brundage was a member of the Boy Scouts, the Elks Lodge, Boys Clubs, Sertoma Club and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. He also was a member of the volunteer fire department in Crawfordville. He enjoyed fishing, automobile racing and boating and sailing, holding the world record in endurance in the Orange Bowl Regatta in 1955.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two daughters, Mary Sullivan, Montgomery, Ala., and Patricia Confer, Peachtree City, Ga.; two stepsons, Eugene Breazeale, New Smyrna Beach, and Charles Breazeale, Albany; and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Baldwin Brothers is in charge.

Catherine Bynoe

JULY 28, 1954 -- JUNE 15, 2004

COCOA -- Catherine Hull Bynoe, 49, of Cocoa, an Edgewater native, died Tuesday at home.

Mrs. Bynoe, a homemaker, grew up in Port Orange and moved to Cocoa in 2002. She attended the Church of the Nazarene in Rockledge. Mrs. Bynoe attended Mainland High School and Daytona Beach Community College. A martial arts enthusiast, she enjoyed horseback riding, fishing and animals.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald; her mother, Claudia Hull, Cocoa; and a brother, Ronald Hull, New Smyrna Beach. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Pauline Elliott

DEC. 15, 1915 -- JUNE 15, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Pauline M. Elliott, 88, of Sunland Road, who formerly owned Whisp-O-Curl Beauty Salon in High Point, N.C., died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mrs. Elliott, who was also a former lunchroom attendant at Longstreet Elementary School, was born in Goldsboro, N.C. She moved here in 1979 from High Point. Mrs. Elliott was a member of First Baptist Church of Daytona Beach, where she was active with the Faithful Servants Bible Class. She enjoyed watching golf, British comedy and cooking shows.

Survivors include a son, Preston "P.W., " Daytona Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Janet Greene

JUNE 16, 1942 -- JUNE 14, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Janet D. Greene, 61, of Maley Street, a speech audiologist with the Connecticut Health Department, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center.

Ms. Greene was born in Americus, Ga., and came here from Connecticut in 1989. She earned a bachelor's degree from Hampton University, Hampton, Va., and a master's degree from Michigan State University. Ms. Greene was a member of Stewart Memorial United Methodist Church. Also a member of the Daytona Beach Alumni Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, she served as a committee chairwoman for its "School America" reading program.

Survivors include her mother, Mildred Greene, Daytona Beach; and two sisters, Cassandra Reynolds, Daytona Beach, and Valarie King, Winter Springs. Gainous is in charge.

Willie Hamm Jr.

AUG. 27, 1975 -- JUNE 13, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Willie Hamm Jr., 28, of Laws Lane, a resident of Ormond Beach since childhood, died Sunday at Shands Hospital, Gainesville, following a long illness.

Mr. Hamm, a 1994 graduate of Seabreeze High School, was born in Winter Haven. He was a member of Ormond Beach Church of God by Faith. He enjoyed basketball, football and singing.

Survivors include his parents, Willie and Deborah Hamm, Ormond Beach; three brothers, Kelvin Hamm, Ormond Beach, Carnell Lomax, Haines City, and Tony Crawford, Rochester, N.Y.; two sisters, Michelle Jones, Tampa, and Natasha Ford, Auburndale; his grandmother, Mildred Postell, Daytona Beach; and his great-grandmother, Katherine Ford, Winter Park. Charles A. Lewis Funeral Home, Winter Haven, is in charge.
