Dorothy Murphy

FEB. 12, 1928 -- JUNE 21, 2004

PALM COAST -- Dorothy Swan Murphy, 76, of Waystone Place, an operator for AT&T before her retirement, died Monday at home.

Mrs. Murphy moved here in 1996 from her native Clifton, N.J. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Clifton, and the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include two sons, Mark, Palm Coast, and Keith, Clifton; two daughters, Myra Kosak, San Diego, and Dara Michielsen, Vernon, N.J.; a brother, Ryer Swan, St. Petersburg; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Memorial HospiceCare, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 319, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, Clifton, is in charge.

Arved Nardozzi

DEC. 21, 1963 -- JUNE 20, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Arved "Pat" Nardozzi, 40, of Kingbird Circle, a truck driver for Self Trucking, died Sunday at home.

An Army veteran of Operation Desert Storm, Mr. Nardozzi was born in Cleveland, and came here from Pittsburgh in 1997. He also worked as a welder and pipe fitter. An avid fisherman, Mr. Nardozzi was a member of Dig & Find Metal Detecting Club and the Central Florida Metal Detecting Club of Sanford.

Survivors include his companion and caregiver, Lori Borders, Daytona Beach. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Charles Nichols

JULY 21, 1922 -- JUNE 18, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Charles F. Nichols, 81, of Almond Street, a civil engineer at Tindal Air Force Base, Panama City, died Friday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial, Orange City.

Mr. Nichols, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, moved here in 1960 from his native Watertown, N.Y. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both in DeBary.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Frances; a stepson, Michael Edwards, Ayer, Mass.; and two stepdaughters, Deborah Beyer, Orange City, and Melissa Rein, Deltona. Allen-Summerhill, Orange City, is in charge.

Mary Niebergall

FEB. 18, 1908 -- JUNE 19, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Mary Regina Niebergall, 96, of Stagden Look, a resident since 1997, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Niebergall, a homemaker, was born in New York City, and came here from Queens, N.Y. She enjoyed reading and cooking.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Morano and Mary DiVirgilio, both of Ormond Beach, a brother, Albert Gringiani, Hallandale; and two grandchildren, including, Dawn McKibbin, Ormond Beach, who provided for her care. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Scholarship Fund, 201 University Blvd., Daytona Beach, FL 32118; or to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Ralph Nusbaum

JAN. 14, 1918 -- JUNE 19, 2004

DELAND -- Ralph Nusbaum, 86, of South Amelia Avenue, a retired electrical contractor, died Saturday at Oakwood Garden of DeLand.

Born in Montgomery, Ala., Mr. Nusbaum came to this area in 1959 from New York.

Survivors include his companion of 25 years, Alberta Crosby; a son, Michael, Moscow, Pa.; a sister, Rosalie Wilkes, DeLand; and three grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Lincoln Pruitt

AUG. 21, 1920 -- JUNE 20, 2004

PALM COAST -- Lincoln Darrell Pruitt, 83, of Cloverdale Court North, an analyst for the government before his retirement, died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mr. Pruitt was born in Parsons, Kan., and moved to this area in 1980 from Laurel, Md. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and the Retired Officers Association, both of Palm Coast.

Survivors include his wife, Louise; and a sister, LaDonna Miller, Phoenix. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, Memorial Fund, 156 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast, FL 32137. Coastal Cremation, Palm Coast, is in charge.

Robert Simpson

MAY 21, 1938 -- JUNE 18, 2004

PALM COAST -- Robert Steele Simpson, 66, of Jasmine Drive, a retired stockbroker and former vice president of Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, died Friday at home.

Mr. Simpson, an Army veteran, was born in Kensington, Pa., and moved here from Coral Gables in 2003. A University of Miami graduate, he was a member of Grand Haven Country Club.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Susan; two daughters, Hillary Simpson, Asheville, N.C., and Robin Howie, Tryon, N.C.; a stepson, J. Eric Virgil, Coral Gables; a stepdaughter, Laura Timura, Islamorada; a brother, Paul, Niles, Mich.; and two step-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

Jeanette Suttle

JUNE 1, 1929 -- JUNE 20, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Jeanette B. Suttle, 75, of Baywood Drive, a retired cashier, died Sunday at Hospice Care Center, Port Orange.

Mrs. Suttle moved here in 1936 from Toccoa, Ga., her birthplace. She was a graduate of Seabreeze High School and attended Stetson University. She was a member of South Peninsula Baptist Church, Daytona Beach Shores. She enjoyed music and played piano for many area churches.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Rae; a son, John, Merritt Island; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Woodward, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Thomas Telesca Jr.

JUNE 9, 1943 -- JUNE 18, 2004

DELTONA -- Thomas Joseph Telesca Jr., 61, of Delaware Road, a retired truck mechanic, died Friday in Plymouth as the result of an automobile accident.

Mr. Telesca moved to this area in 1989 from Waterbury, Conn., his birthplace. He enjoyed stock car racing and the beach.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Carol; a son, Thomas III, Oakville, Conn.; and a daughter, Theresa Migaldi, Waterbury. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Virginia Adams
OCT. 21, 1944 -- JUNE 22, 2004

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Virginia M. Adams, 59, of Slayton Avenue, a retired paralegal, died Tuesday at home.

Mrs. Adams moved here in 1975 from her native Danville, Va.

Survivors include two sons, Anthony, South Daytona, and Jesse Jr., Orlando; a daughter, Sheree Bice, Ocklawaha, Fla.; her father, John Bailey, Danville; two brothers, Glen Moore, Port Orange, and Doyle Moore, Mauldin, S.C.; two sisters, Ruby Reese, Danville, and Jackie Delacruz, Norfolk, Va.; and five grandchildren. Shannon, Port Orange, is in charge.

Norman Armstrong
SEPT. 21, 1920 -- SEPT. 16, 2004

PALM COAST -- Norman L. Armstrong, 83, of Forsythe Lane, who retired after 28 years as a salesman for Prudential Life Insurance Co., died Thursday at Florida Hospital-Flagler.

Mr. Armstrong, a British Army veteran of World War II, was born in Cuba and moved to this area in 1991 from Long Island, N.Y. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; two daughters, Michele Woods, Marina Valley, Calif., and Patrice Leach, Queens, N.Y.; a stepson, Horiato "Joe" Andrean, Spring Valley, N.Y.; two stepdaughters, Cynthia Semple, Toronto, and Edmarine Wallach, Long Island, N.Y.; two brothers, Robert and Lloyd, and a sister, Daisy Huie, all of Jamaica. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of ones choice. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Thomas Clausen

FEB. 21, 2004 -- SEPT. 16, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Thomas Ray "Tommy" Clausen, the seven month old son of Brian and Heather Clausen, died Thursday at Shands Hospital, Gainesville, after a long illness.

Baby Thomas was born in Daytona Beach.

Additional survivors include his paternal grandfather, Richard, Port Orange; his paternal grandmother, Joan Marshall, Daytona Beach; his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Ray, Lincolnville, Maine; his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Rachel and Richard LeBrun, Dade City; his paternal great-grandmother, Loretta Marshall, Daytona Beach; and his maternal great-grandparents, Bill and Colleen Morris, Fairfield, Maine. Cardwell & Maloney, Port Orange, is in charge.

Sislyn Escoffery

SEPT. 23, 1919 -- SEPT. 7, 2004

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- Sislyn Escoffery, 84, a former Deltona resident, died Sept. 7 at Methodist Hospital, Brooklyn.

Mrs. Escoffery, who retired in 1986 as a dietician from Lenox Hill Hospital, Manhattan, N.Y., was born in Jamaica. She moved to this area in 1986 from New York and recently moved to Brooklyn to be closer to family. She was a member of the Local 1199 Hospitals Union, New York. Mrs. Escoffery enjoyed cooking and reading.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Sydney, Jamaica; three sons, Lloyd, Pembrook Pines, Milton, Brooklyn, and Winston, Fairfield, Calif.; two daughters, Joy Harrison, Corona, Calif., and Barbara Mitchell, Cloister, N.J.; a sister, Daisy Smith, Hamilton, Ontario; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Deltona Memorial, Orange City, is in charge.

Mary Gibson

OCT. 14, 1930 -- SEPT. 16, 2004

OAK HILL -- Mary Marie Gibson, 73, of North Gaines Street, a native of Shiloh, died Thursday at home.

Mrs. Gibson, a former seafood processor, was a lifelong resident. She was a member of Full Gospel Church of Oak Hill and enjoyed working in the yard and shopping.

Survivors include a son, James, Titusville; a daughter, Penny Ramsey, Oak Hill, who provided for her care; a brother, Woodrow Harris, Oak Hill; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.
