Daniel Cruzan

JAN. 12, 1917 -- JUNE 28, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Daniel H. Cruzan, 87, of Mason Avenue, who retired from Douglas Aircraft at Kennedy Space Center, died Monday at Emory L. Bennett Memorial Veterans Nursing Home.

Born in Oklahoma City, Mr. Cruzan, an Army veteran of World War II, moved here in 2003 from Inverness. He also owned and operated a lawn care service in Venice. He was an avid Miami Dolphins fan.

Survivors include two brothers, Jim, Daytona Beach, and Bruce, Live Oak; and three sisters, Margo Rost, Oklahoma City, Betty Cruzan, El Paso, Texas, and Mary Lou Blake, Tulsa, Okla. Memorial donations may be made to the Emory L. Bennett Memorial Veterans Nursing Home, co the Accounting Department, 1920 Mason Ave., Daytona Beach, FL 32117. DEC. 2, 1950 -- JUNE 27, 2004

PALM COAST -- Andrea C. Easton, 53, of Briarvue Lane, a dental hygienist, died Sunday at Coquina Center, Ormond Beach.

Mrs. Easton was born in Summit, N.J., and moved here in 2002 from Blairstown, N.J. She was a member of Palm Coast United Methodist Church, Flagler County Chorus, Order of Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Sons of Norway.

Survivors include a son, Sean Stillwagon, Texas; a daughter, Jennifer O'Halloran, Wyoming; her mother, Shirley Beck, Palm Coast; a brother, Paul Beck, Manassas, Va.; and two sisters, Donna Davenport, Palm Coast, and Karen Stone-Stricklin, Sunrise. Memorial donations may be made to Florida Hospital Memorial HospiceCare, 770 W. Granada Blvd., Suite 319, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Coastal Cremation is in charge.

Harald Gormsen

SEPT. 21, 1925 -- JUNE 26, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Harald C. Gormsen, 78, of West Lake Drive, who retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service, died Saturday at Florida Hospital-Fish Memorial.

Mr. Gormsen was born in Eastchester, N.Y., and came to this area in 1987 from Suffern, N.Y. He was a member of the Sunny Sounds, Deltonians Dance Band and the DeBary Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed singing in a barbershop quartet for area churches and nursing homes.

Survivors include his companion of 10 years, Grace White; two sons, Carl, Middletown, N.Y., and Edward, Corona, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Sobolov, the Bronx, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. FourTowns Cremation is in charge.

Dorothy Henry

MAY 7, 1930 -- JUNE 27, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Dorothy P. Henry, 78, of Old Samsula Road, a resident since 1985, died Sunday at home.

Mrs. Henry, a retired health care worker, moved here from her native Champaign, Ill. She enjoyed collecting Precious Moments figurines.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Henry; two sons, Jack, Big Pine Key, and Jan, Champaign; a daughter, Lauretta Rogers, Daytona Beach; a brother, Junior Shepheard, Daytona Beach; a sister, Irma Rokos, Urbana, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Lester Iager

OCT. 16, 1918 -- JUNE 24, 2004

DELAND -- Lester H. Iager, 85, of South Elsasser Street, who retired as the owner of Iager's Backhoe and Dump Truck Rental, died Thursday at home.

Mr. Iager was born in Fulton, Md., and moved here in 1979. He was a member of Volusia County Baptist Church, Orange City.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Virginia; two daughters, Elaine Hart and Patricia Clough, both of DeLand; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Gerald Moore

SEPT. 11, 1944 -- JUNE 27, 2004

SOUTH DAYTONA -- Gerald Ray Moore, 59, of South Daytona, a security officer, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Moore was born in Marion, N.C., and came here in 1988 from North Carolina. He also worked for Florida Health Care. He enjoyed fishing and watching boxing on television.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Karen; a son, Steven, South Daytona; two daughters, Kimberly Holbrook, Idaho, and Stephanie Moore, Port Orange; two brothers, Howard, Virginia, and Bobby, Kentucky; a sister, Joyce Bright, North Carolina; and four grandchildren. Daytona Funeral Home, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Shefali Vijay Moradia

FEB. 6, 1992 -- JUNE 28, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Shefali Vijay Moradia, 12, of Sawgrass Point Drive, a student at Horizon Elementary School, died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach, following a long illness.

Miss Moradia was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1995 from New York City.

Survivors include her father, Vijay Moradia, two sisters, Ketki and Nehi Moradia, and her paternal grandparents, Jadavji and Manjula Moradia, all of Port Orange; and her maternal grandmother, Kantibhai Patel, Philadelphia. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

R. Melvin Murphy

DEC. 2, 1929 -- JUNE 28, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- R. Melvin Murphy, 74, of Palm Drive, a former inspector for the McDonnell Douglas Corp., died Monday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Born in St. Louis, Mr. Murphy moved here in 1999 from Iberia, Mo. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patsy; two sons, Melvin, Festus, Mo., and Robert, Charleston W.Va.; a daughter, Jacquie English, Holly Hill; a brother, Carl, Florrisant, Mo.; a sister, Ann, St. Louis; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Pinello, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Virginia Shadrick

JULY 5, 1920 -- JUNE 28, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Virginia V. Shadrick, 83, of Oceanshore Boulevard, a retired public school dietician, died Monday at Indigo Manor and Nursing Rehabilitation Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Shadrick was born in Middlebury, Vt., and came here 1974 from Bristol, Vt. She was a past president of the Corinthian Condo Association. She enjoyed the beach, gardening and travel.

Survivors include a son, Kirk, Ormond Beach; a brother, William Vassar, Cromwell, Conn.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Woodward, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Wilbur Shepard

SEPT. 15, 1918 -- JUNE 27, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Wilbur C. Shepard, 85, of Berkshire Road, who operated a shoeshine stand at Daytona Beach International Airport in the 1980s before his retirement, died Sunday at Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Shepard, an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, moved to this area as a child from his native Boston, Ga. He was a member of Martin Luther King Church of Christ.

Survivors include a niece, Jeanette Perry, and a grandniece, Donna Jones, both of Daytona Beach, who provided for his care. Thompson is in charge.

Pauline Shuler

AUG. 27, 1920 -- JUNE 25, 2004

BUNNELL -- Pauline Wright Shuler, 83, a resident since 1981, died Friday at home.

Mrs. Shuler, a homemaker, was born in Enterprise, Ala., and moved here from Conway, S.C. She was a member of Pierson United Methodist Church. Mrs. Shuler enjoyed gardening.

Survivors include a son, Gary, Bunnell; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Hannah Cremation, Holly Hill, is in charge.

Diane Valentine

DEC. 18, 1937 -- JUNE 28, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Diane T. Valentine, 66, of Fern Palm Drive, an engineer with the Florida Department of Transportation before her retirement, died Monday at home.

Mrs. Valentine moved here in 1942 from her native Lima, Ohio. She enjoyed gardening, cats and golf.

Survivors include two sons, Chris Klapp, Edgewater, and Dan Klapp, Ohio; a daughter, Elizabeth Menzies, Edgewater; a brother, Paul Tice, Missouri; a sister, Moneta Williams, Jacksonville; and 11 grandchildren. Geneva Vick

JULY 10, 1920 -- JUNE 24, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Geneva Vick, 83, Segrave Street, a resident since 1922, died Thursday at Olds Hall-Good Samaritan Center.

Mrs. Vick, a homemaker, was born in Broxton, Ga., and moved to this area from Georgia. She was a member of Central Baptist Church where she was involved with several activities.

Survivors include three sons, Bill Jr., Daytona Beach, and James and Don, both of Ormond Beach; a daughter, Terry Nordeen, Port Orange; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
