Bayard Gum

JULY 18, 1928 -- FEB. 27, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Bayard Gum, 76, of Ocean Shore Boulevard, a winter resident from Michigan, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Gum, an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, was born in Buckhannon, W.Va. He was a high school teacher for 37 years in Oscoda, Mich. An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Gum was a member of Oscoda Methodist Church and the Oscoda Yacht Club.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sue; a son, Kenneth, Traverse City, Mich.; a daughter, Dana Wright, Knoxville, Md.; and two grandchildren. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Elizabeth Hendricks

SEPT. 17, 1926 -- FEB. 25, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- Elizabeth L. Hendricks, 78, of Wilson Drive, a native of Hanover, N.J., died Friday at The Terrace of Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Hendricks moved here in 1991 from Howell Township, N.J. She enjoyed playing bingo.

Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth Zahn, Port Orange; two brothers; two sisters; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. National Cremation, Melbourne, is in charge.

Walter Lewandowski

DEC. 8, 1928 -- FEB. 26, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Walter Joseph Lewandowski, 76, of Mason Avenue, a former mail handler with the Postal Service, died Saturday at Halifax Medical Center.

Mr. Lewandowski, a Navy veteran, was born in Hillsborough, N.J. He moved to this area in 1965 from New Jersey. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed fishing and stock car racing.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth, Port Orange, Robert, California, and Francis, Saudi Arabia; a sister. Florence Sterbinski, New Jersey; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Alavon Direct Cremation, South Daytona, is in charge.

Dolores Long

APRIL 12, 1973 -- FEB. 25, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Dolores M. "Dee-Dee" Long, 31, of Peninsula Drive, a student at Nova Southeastern University in Orlando, died Friday at Sierra Breeze in Houston. An autopsy is pending.

Miss. Long was born in Mount Holly, N.Y., and moved here in 1975. An Army veteran, she was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. She earned an associate of arts degree at Daytona Beach Community College and a bachelor's degree from University of Central Florida. While working on her master's degree in special education at NSU, Miss. Long worked as a child advocate and student teacher. She enjoyed spending time with her dog Bella.

Survivors include her father, Lawrence, Daytona Beach; her mother, Dolores Long, Houston; a sister, Andria Long, Chicago; and her maternal grandmother, Jean Porto, Hainesport, N.J. Memorial donations may be made to The Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools, 400 E. Lake Mary Blvd., Sanford, FL 32773. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Lawrence Machaj

DEC. 17, 1915 -- FEB. 28, 2005

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Lawrence S. Machaj, 89, of South Atlantic Avenue, a retired salesman for the Wagner Pie Co., Chicago, died Monday at Bert Fish Medical Center.

Mr. Machaj, an Army veteran of World War II, moved to this area in 1979 from Chicago, his birthplace. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church and was a third degree member of The Father Downey Council 4934, Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ann; a son, Larry, Marseilles, Ill.; a brother, George, Niles, Ill.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Dudley, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

Lottie Noerager

AUG. 19, 1917 -- FEB. 28, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Lottie A. Noerager, 87, of Interchange Boulevard, a retired chemist, died Monday at Florida Hospital-Ormond Memorial.

Mrs. Noerager was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and moved Ormond Beach in 2002 from Palm Coast. She previously lived in Palm Coast from 1977. She was a graduate of Hunter College and the City College of New York. Mrs. Noerager was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Palm Coast. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed reading, and playing bridge and Scrabble.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole Bloom, Port Orange, and Barbara Sherupski, Round Hill, Va.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 1040 Woodcock Road, suite 119, Orlando, FL 32803. Lohman Ormond is in charge.

John Patete

NOV. 14, 1919 -- FEB. 26, 2005

EDGEWATER -- John F. Patete, 85, of Orange Tree Drive, a retired production supervisor for the General Motors Corp., Atlanta, died Saturday at Port Orange Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Port Orange.

Mr. Patete, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Elizabeth, N.J. He moved to this area in 1983 from Atlanta.

Survivors include a son, John Jr., Edgewater; a daughter, Constance Clarkson, E. Stroudsburg, Pa.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Dudley, Edgewater, is in charge.

Carl Reisz

AUG. 15, 1926 -- FEB. 27, 2005

PORT ORANGE -- Carl T. Reisz, 78, of Horizon View Boulevard, a pipe fitter who retired after 37 years with General Motors, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mr. Reisz, a Navy veteran of World War II, was born in Elyria, Ohio, and moved here in 1985 from Leary, Ohio. He was a member of Port Orange United Church of Christ, Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Reisz enjoyed working around the house and playing bingo.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Wilma; a son, Michael, Dayton, Ohio; a daughter, Patricia Reisz-Streng, Plain City, Ohio; and two grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Port Orange United Church of Christ, 651 Taylor Road, Port Orange, FL 32127. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Jaineta Rivers

JAN. 19, 1916 -- FEB. 24, 2005

DELAND -- Jaineta B. Rivers, 89, of Euclid Avenue, a departmental supervisor for the City Of New York, died Thursday at University Center West.

Mrs. Rivers was born in Charleston, S.C.

No known immediate relatives survive. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Adam Rodman

DEC. 26, 1904 -- FEB. 23, 2005

DAYTONA BEACH -- Adam Edward Rodman, 100, of Williamson Boulevard, who retired in 1978 after 30 years as a popcorn salesman in Michigan, died Wednesday at Indigo Manor.

Mr. Rodman, an Army veteran of World War II, was born in Wolcottville, Ind. He moved to this area in 1978 from Michigan. He was a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Mildred. Volusia County Cremation is in charge.

Lawrence Saxby

JULY 26, 1933 -- FEB. 26, 2005

DELAND -- Lawrence Richard Saxby, 71, of Loretta Court, who served in the Army and retired from the Air Force in flightline maintenance and scheduling, died Saturday at home.

Mr. Saxby was born in Holcomb, N.Y., and moved to this area in 1979 from Jacksonville, Ark. He was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, Orange City. A former Volunteer of the Year, he enjoyed reading to the children at Woodward Avenue Elementary School, DeLand, and Volusia Pines Elementary School, Lake Helen.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Evelyn; a son, Michael, Little Rock, Ark.; two daughters, Sheri Manning, Lake Helen, and Rhoda Parsons, Benton, Ark.; a brother, Martin, Holcomb; a sister, Mary Jane Saxby, New York; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to Emmaus Lutheran Church Building Fund, 2500 S Highway 17-92, Orange City, FL 32763. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.

Raymond Suntich

JAN. 20, 1947 -- FEB. 27, 2005

ORMOND BEACH -- Raymond J. Suntich, 58, of Wall Avenue, a resident since 1979, died Sunday at home.

Mr. Suntich, an entrepreneur, was born in Pittsburgh. He enjoyed woodworking, computers and arts and crafts.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Dee Dee; a daughter, Jennifer Suntich, Ormond Beach; two brothers, Chuck, Ormond Beach, and Steve, Port Orange; and a sister, Elaine Stauffer, Philadelphia. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Haigh-Black, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Lucille Thornton

MAY 19, 1916 -- FEB. 26, 2005

DELAND -- Lucille Thornton, 88, of North Orange Avenue, a resident since 1939, died Saturday at home.

Mrs. Thornton, a homemaker, was born in Augusta, Ky. She moved to this area from Kentucky. She was a member of First Baptist Church of DeLand.

Survivors include two sons, William, DeLand, and Donald Jr., Ormond Beach; a sister, Wilma Honaker, Worthville, Ky.; and two grandchildren. Allen-Summerhill, DeLand, is in charge.
