Donald McCormick

AUG. 6, 1941 -- JULY 10, 2004

EDGEWATER -- Donald Allen McCormick, 62, of West Indian River Drive, who owned and operated Don's Rod and Reel, died Saturday at home.

Born in Hartford, Conn., Mr. McCormick, an Army veteran, came to this area in 1995 from Bellingham, Mass. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include a son, Michael, and a daughter, Tracy McCormick, both of Bellingham; a brother, Richard, Edgewater; and a sister, Carol Conroy, Southington, Conn. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Gerald Parrish

SEPT. 9, 1937 -- JULY 13, 2004

FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Gerald Brannon Parrish, 66, of Frankfort, the brother of Ormond Beach resident Dale Parrish, died Tuesday at home.

Mr. Parrish, a farmer and owner of Parrish Lumber Mill, was a native and lifelong resident of Frankfort. An Army veteran, he was a member of Peaks Mill Christian Church, where he served as treasurer and on the Board of Elders and Deacons. Mr. Parrish also was a member of Peaks Mill Ruritan Club and played fast and slow-pitch softball.

Additional survivors include his wife, Joyce; his mother, Mary Parrish, Frankfort; two brothers, Harold, Holiday, and Murray, Frankfort; and a sister, Marilyn Jones, Frankfort. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 208 Steele St., Frankfort, KY 40601; or to Peaks Mill Christian Church cemetery Fund, 7534 Peaks Mill Road, Frankfort, KY 40601. Harrod Brothers Funeral Home is in charge.

Gladys Shaffer

JUNE 9, 1919 -- JULY 13, 2004

ORANGE CITY -- Gladys S. Shaffer, 85, of South Clements Avenue, an Orlando native, died Tuesday at home.

Mrs. Shaffer, a longtime resident of this area, graduated from DeLand High School and worked briefly at the Volusia County Clerk's Office. She was a member of Orange City United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two step-daughters, Janie Shaffer, Orange City, and Marettia Blackburn, Port St. Lucie; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Volusia - Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129. Lankford, DeLand, is in charge.

Virginia Sparks

MAY 13, 1919 -- JULY 13, 2004

NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Virginia Merciers Sparks, 85, of Turtle Mound Road, a retired bookkeeper, died Tuesday at home.

Mrs. Sparks was born in Whiteside, Tenn., and moved here from Illinois in 1965. She was a member of the Audubon Society, Arts and Crafts Club and a member and early developer of the Bethune Beach Property Owners Association. Mrs. Sparks formerly headed the committee that named some of the streets in the Bethune area subdivision.

Survivors include a son, Douglas, Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Patricia Sparks, New Smyrna Beach; two sisters, Lucy Erwin and Eunice Pinero, both of New Smyrna Beach; and three grandsons. Settle-Wilder, New Smyrna Beach, is in charge.

U. Louis Tinozzi

JAN. 5, 1930 -- JULY 13, 2004

HOLLY HILL -- U. Louis Tinozzi, 74, of State Street, the owner of Tino's Restaurant in Syracuse, N.Y., died Tuesday at his son's home in Ormond Beach.

Mr. Tinozzi, a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, was born in New York City, and moved here from Syracuse in 1982. He graduated with a business administration degree from Syracuse University. A member of the Eagles, Moose and American Legion, all of Ormond Beach, Mr. Tinozzi also was a lifetime National Rifle Association gold member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and music.

Survivors include four sons, Guido, Ormond Beach, Marco and Matteo, both of Syracuse, and Paulo, Endicott, N.Y.; two daughters, Rina Lecouturier, San Rafael, Calif., and Carina Tinozzi, San Diego; and four grandchildren. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Omaree Vann

JULY 2, 2004 -- JULY 10, 2004

DELTONA -- Omaree Jaquon Vann, the infant son of Taja Vann, of North Nemo Drive, died Saturday at Arnold Palmer Hospital, Orlando.

Baby Omaree was born in Longwood.

Additional survivors include his paternal grandparents, Terry and Derrick Vann, Sanford; his maternal grandmother, Dion Rowson, Deltona; his paternal great-grandparents, Dennis and Betty Vann, Sanford; his maternal great-grandparents, Lorraine and Bruce Holloway, Sanford, and Larry Haynes, Tampa; and his great-great-grandmother, Hattie Lawson, Midway. Unity, DeLand, is in charge.

Michael Watson

JUNE 8, 1948 -- JULY 11, 204

DAYTONA BEACH -- Michael Watson, 56, of Grandview Avenue, a native of Philadelphia, died Sunday at Halifax Medical Center.

No known immediate relatives survive. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Grady Babbs
MARCH 6, 1920 -- JULY 20, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Grady Babbs, 84, of Cedar Highlands Boulevard, who retired from ITT Lumber Co., Bunnell, died Tuesday at Halifax Medical Center.

A native of Denton, Ga., Mr. Babbs moved here from Georgia in 1957. He attended Madison Heights Church of God in Christ and enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mattie; a son, Grady Jr., Daytona Beach; two daughters, Mavis Anderson, Deltona, and Jacqueline Mitchell, Daytona Beach; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Volusia Memorial, Ormond Beach, is in charge.

Doris Brown

MAY 28, 1925 -- JULY 20, 2004

FLAGLER BEACH -- Doris V. Brown, 79, of Leslie Street, a native of Richmond, Va., died Tuesday at Florida Hospital-Flagler, Palm Coast.

Mrs. Brown, a homemaker, was moved to this area in 2001 from Perryville, Md. She enjoyed nature, beach walking, flowers and watching Lifetime movies.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Gilbert; two daughters, Jane Graumann, Palm Coast, and Pat Sowsh, Iowa; a sister, Martha Keplinger, Virginia; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Coastal Cremation, Palm Coast, is in charge.

Bruce Chapman

NOV. 18, 1948 -- JULY 21, 2004

BUNNELL -- Bruce E. Chapman, 55, of Pine Tree Lane, a truck driver for Darrell Cone Dozier Service, died Wednesday at home.

Mr. Chapman, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, was born in Jackson, Mich., and moved here in 1982 from Parma, Mich. He was a president of a local motorcycle club.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Barbara; a son, Brian, Bunnell; two daughters, Jessica McCraney, Bunnell, and Nicole Zcarnecki, Tampa; a sister, Sue Whipple, Tamarac; and a grandchild. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1620 S. Clyde Morris Blvd., Suite 300, Daytona Beach, FL 32119; or to the American Heart Association, 555 W. Granada Blvd., Suite A-1, Ormond Beach, FL 32174. Craig-Flagler Palms, Flagler Beach, is in charge.

Eunice Draper

MARCH 2, 1918 -- JULY 22, 2004

PORT ORANGE -- Eunice F. Draper, 86, of Pine Forest Trail East, a resident since 1973, died Thursday at Halifax Medical Center, Daytona Beach.

Mrs. Draper, a homemaker, was born in North Bergen, N.J., and came here from Bergenfield, N.J. She was a past president of both the Newcomers Club, Daytona Beach, and Contemporary Woman's Club, New Jersey. Mrs. Draper played on the Briarwood Bowling League and enjoyed bingo, traveling and riding on motorcycles. She also volunteered at Halifax Medical Center for more than 20 years.

Survivors include a son, Allan, Mechanicsville, Va.; a daughter, Lynda Folgo, Port Orange; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Volusia Memorial, Port Orange, is in charge.

Gary Gantz

JULY 13, 1972 -- JULY 21, 2004

ORMOND BEACH -- Gary Lester Gantz, 32, of Warwick Avenue, a self-employed jeweler, died Wednesday as the result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident at Halifax Avenue and Main Street in Daytona Beach.

Mr. Gantz moved to this area in 1978 from his native Richmond, Va. He was a graduate of Spruce Creek High School and attended Daytona Beach Community College. Mr. Gantz was a member of South Daytona Baptist Church. He enjoyed surfing, fishing and walks on the beach.

Survivors include his wife of seven years, Layla; a son, Deionte, Ormond Beach; his father, Gary; his mother, Stephany Lowell; four brothers, Shawn Gantz, Tomee and Joey Ishak, and Jason Shemp; and four sisters, Melisa Holly, Christy Shumate, Nadia Ishak, and Christy Shemp. Baggett & Summers, Daytona Beach, is in charge.

Anna Hamilton

JUNE 20, 1914 -- JULY 21, 2004

DAYTONA BEACH -- Anna Louise Hamilton, 90, of Hobart Avenue, a native of Chatham, N.Y., died Wednesday at Daytona Beach Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Hamilton, a homemaker, moved to this area in 1998 from Troy, N.Y.

Survivors include five sons, Peter, Daytona Beach, Roger, Jacksonville, Frank, Brainard, N.Y., George, East Nassau, N.Y., and Roy, Stephentown, N.Y.; two daughters, Adalade Chartrand, Ocala, and Joyce Evans, East Nassau; a sister, Inez McDonald, Fort Myers; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Newlife Cremation, Ormond Beach, is in charge.
